I love dive bars. And every once in a while you find a dive bar with kick ass vibes, food and service, and Slims is one of those places. We had the hand cut French fries and fry sauce. Probably some of the best seasoned fries I've ever had. Crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. Yum. I had the wings which were LARGE (I didn't know drummies could be so big) and saucy with just the right amount of heat and smoke. If I had a complaint is that the napkis are to small and thin. I think I used 132 napkins eating my saucy wings. We also had brisket and beans. It came out rather coolish and we asked them to microwave them a bit to heat them up. They don't have a microwave...omg. so they heated them the conventional method and the food was amazing. Could have been spicier and was full of great flavors. Had lunch here with the guys at work today and it was all really, really good. With eight of us we must have had virtually every food item off the menu. I personally had a bowl of Texas Red chili over jalapeno mac-n-cheese with the works (tortilla chips, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and a roasted jalapeno). It was awesome. Coming from Texas, it is strange not to have the option of extra heat in the chili though. The only heat with this dish was the jalapenos in the mac-n-cheese and the roasted jalapeno over the top. If you expect chili to be Texas hot, you'll be disappointed. There is hot sauce at the tables but it definitely isn't the same as the habanero puree some of use when making chili in Texas... read more

I haven't eaten here: This review is for the after-hours Live Entertainment! Slims is the home of a great counter-culture country, punk, surf, hardcore, whatever scene: I've seen a few shows here (and 1 NYE) and have been very pleased in supporting the live music scene. (Background: I'm from NJ and the Asbury Park / New Brunswick DIY scene /College Radio fan and garage rock affectionado). Slims delivers great R&R with a reasonable cover charge ($7-10 typical) and excellent sound. At the edge of a manufacturing / job-shop district, lit parking is readily available in the closed-for-the-night nearby areas and also features its own small parking lot. The audience is a great part of the place: A bunch of us older R&R diehards, greasers, more than a few gals. My lack of tattoos brought the per-person average down a bit (ha ha). Not too many college-aged kids on the shows I like to go to, yet if they came they'd be welcome: it's about the music firstly. I got into conversations with a few of the people present, even as new to Seattle and attending solo. The place has a decent beer menu on tap and bottles, including the mandatory PBR. Cleanliness is better than most 'dive bars' (said lovingly). The kitchen appears well organized, and I have no experience with the food. There is a patio area that I haven't sampled: I was there a few times over the winter. I'd love to give 5 stars, yet I've had a hard time with the tables between the bar and stage: I don't like standing in front of a seated person, and the remaining spots at the bar get tight. And, they'll often promote a show on FB or other social media with one cover charge, and get charged a different value at the door. The doorman explained this fee all goes to the bands anyway, which is great, yet maybe the cover charge affected my choice of show that night? read more

I like this place for live music, but They serve the absolutely worst crayfish po boy $16+ sandwich I've ever eaten. Tiny, rubbery crayfish slathered in a yucky buffalo sauce and hardly any lettuce or other dressing. If they can't get decent crayfish, they shouldn't offer it on the menu. read more

I got the brisket chili topped with cheddar and onions. It wasn't amazing, but it did go really well with the Fritos I brought to put it on top of. The cornbread was okay. It didn't have much flavor, and the honey butter didn't add anything. But it provided a nice (albeit bland) counterpoint to the chili. read more

Went here with my dad today for lunch. Definitely a fun place. Man, they sure do work hard to sell you the ol' outlaw American biker/horse thief watering hole vibe. It's kinda cute, actually. When we got there, while my dad was putting his sunglasses away, I put my Teva up on the back bumper of my fuel-efficient mini-SUV, bonged a spittoon with a hunk of chaw, and said "never for the law to ride, ya hear?" No one was there, but it helped me get in character for the joint. Seriously, they have chairs made out of whiskey barrels, they have racks of old pistols up above the bar (presumably with firing pins taken out), the toilet stalls are walled with corrugated steel...you get the idea. Mexican folk art pounded tin signs, modern Nashville and some good music bumping on the PA. OK, I already said you get the idea. Garage door rolls up onto the porch. It rolled down when the deluge started this afternoon, and stayed down. They definitely honor the neighborhood; I think Georgetown Brewing had half their taps (about 4 out of about 8 IIRC). That's A-OK with me both for the beer's sake and for the neighborhood's sake. Service was awesome. My dad was kinda flustered by all the tattoos on our waitresses, but, then, that's my dad. They were both really good--knew how to work the floor, how to check in, how to stay unobtrusive but keep an eye on us. OTOH, it wasn't really busy, but they were both super nice and obviously knew what they were doing. The main thing, other than live music and the whole, uh, outlaw attitude, is the chili. It's really good. Good seasoning, not too hot, several varieties, and a whole matrix of toppings for you to pick among. Simple menu but good food. It's worth youtubing up the Food Network thing where they make the chili on tv--the guy fills a whole tilt skillet with ingredients and puts together a batch that just looks incredible. Comes out a little oily but not troublingly so at all. My dad had the Brisket & Bean, which was great, and I the Texas Red (on a dog), which was equally good. Had the jalapeno mac & cheese aside. "Jalapeno" was too strong a word for this stuff; there was maybe one tiny little diced chunk in my little cup. The M&C itself was ok; definitely house-made but not enough to get me jumping up and down. Really cool Texas-themed dive with lots of attention-grabbing bumper stickers and other little things! Friendly, knowledgable bartenders and some good chili. There are a few chili variations on the menu, and you could get them on their own or over jalapeño mac and cheese, grits, or corn bread (for an additional $2). You could also get extra toppings for an extra charge. I had the Chili Verde over jalapeño mac and cheese, topped with cheddar. It was great. Flavors went smoothly together, and it had a nice, big kick. I was tempted to get a second cup but had things to do and didn't want to fall into a coma. Sadly, I cannot say the same for the cup of Brisket n' Bean that my husband ordered. It was a little on the sweeter side and seemed to be missing something. I expected a much bolder chili, but it wasn't that. Hubby felt the same way. Chicken wings were crisped to perfection, and I loved the garlic slather we got on the side in place of bleu cheese (eeew!). I could've done with a ton more of that tangy, spicy wing sauce they smothered the wings in, but our bartender gave us a bottle of barbecue sauce they had floating around from their sister barbecue joint next door, which went well with the wings also. This is another of those places that I'd like to like a lot more than I do. On the positive side, the space has a fun honky-tonk ambiance, and the service is competent and friendly. It's probably a great place to tip back a pint or two and take in the bands in the evenings. Where SLCCS&WH falls down is the food. The chili really isn't anything you haven't seen before, and have seen done better. The crawfish po' boy was a bit of a disappointment. I've caught and eaten a lot of crawfish, and I'll be darned if I can figure out where they're sourcing theirs. These are the smallest crawdad tails I have ever seen! At maybe 1/2" long, it's as if they took a can of Snow's cocktail shrimp, tossed them in flour, and fried them. I really have a hard time believing these are crawfish. Shrimp maybe, but not crawfish. The rest of the sandwich is a mess of shredded greens and abundantly slathered with a pleasantly spicy sauce. Being extremely overstuffed, this sandwich is very difficult to eat with your hands. More isn't always better, folks. The accompanying fries were greasy and uninspired. With so many pubs that serve really good food, I don't see a lot to persuade me to come back. After hearing about this place on TV, Yelp, and everywhere else, I left feeling disappointed. We went on a weekday evening and there was live music, which was the only highlight. We weren't sure if we placed our orders at the table or the bar, but eventually a bartender came over and we ordered - a bowl of brisket and bean with the works and a bowl of Texas red with mac and cheese underneath. The chili was lackluster, and I felt like the portion of brisket and bean was measly under the toppings. Also, I'm not sure if I got what I ordered, because it tasted too acidic and not thick enough to be a "brisket and bean" chili. It was so dark, I couldn't see the food, and I still don't know what I actually got. There were only a few bites of mac and cheese under the Texas red. I am in search of Seattles best wings and this place is rumored to be a contender... I've ordered a batch... Well done.. And I await the response to my call.. "Where the hell can an east coaster get a dozen respectable wings in the west"? Where my friends? Where???? It seems... Here. These wings are smoked.. Then fried. This is the golden process which fully cooks the wings prior to being fried.. Leaving the business of frying to make these buggers perfectly crispy without the need for breading or batter. There is a spice rub all up in there and the wing sauce is spicy without being overly vinegary. They have mastered my favorite of favorites... And after devouring an order... Then picking out every last morsel from the bone pile... I ordered a second order.. I was reassured by the bartendress that she would not judge me... But she will most likely charge me. Sold! Do not miss this bastion of wing perfection my yelping friends... Do not be fooled by imitations and do not settle for straight from the freezer poultry to plate.. Texas red Chilli is $8.75 for a bowl. Comes with maco and cheese or white cheddar grits. Add. $2.75 for the works and $3.25 for the cornbread with honey butter. The chili was packed with flavor with strong spices. Almost a bit too spicy and I do like spicy. My nose couldn't stop sweating and running. The guy sitting next to me kept asking if I was ok because I was gasping for air to cool off my tongue. Also, I didn't like the fact it wasn't served warmer. It was served at moderate temperature. The Mac and cheese was my favorite. After I noticed I was missing the Mac and cheese she brought out a scoop their last one. Overall, the chili was ok. I was really impressed that I liked this place as much as I did. After seeing it on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives we have been wanting to go here for years, but whenever we think to go is on a Sunday, when its closed. But we were going to a Sounders game, and decided to stop in here for some dinner before hand. My Boyfriend and I both had the Copper Red ale, which is from those Manny's guys, and it was pretty good. More like a Pale Ale, but not bad. We also both had the Texas Red Chili over the jalapeno mac and cheese. I got cheese though, while he got sour cream. I know, I know..... crazy, right? I like to be adventurous sometimes. It was really good chili, and I would definitely come here again. Next time though, I would probably just get the chili on its own with the mac n cheese on the side, so I can taste more of the mac n cheese. I also want to try the chili verde, and the grits. All sound fantastic! Our Server/Bartender was also super nice too. The only bad thing I have to say though was the cornbread was very blah, it wasn't very good and had no flavor. And for $3, is definitely not worth it. Oh well, next time I just won't order it. Since its just now the beginning of Sounders Season, I am sure we will have plenty of chances to visits Slim's again for some more delicious chili. read more

Got dragged here with someone who's a big fan of KEXP's Shake the Shack, which broadcasts live from here about once a month. It's free and not a bad thing to do on a Friday night. Beer's good and served in glass jars, which is a fun touch, I guess. And the food makes me want to go back -- not something that's common for a bar. We had the traditional meat chili and the green chili, and both were excellent. I'm not a big grits fan, but I loved the mac 'n cheese. Chili starts at $5, sides are around $3, so you can get quite a bit for your money. I also had my eye on the crawfish poboy... maybe next time. Honestly, I don't fit in here, and that weird feeling probably contributes to the 1 star off. There were plenty of girls in flashy rockabilly dresses, guys with Rainier belt buckles and wallet chains. I'm not white, and I don't have multiple tattoos. But nevertheless, it was a fun experience watching other people having a blast listening to music, playing pool, and dancing the night away. read more

I've met friends a couple times at Slim's Last Chance in SODO area. This location is a little bit off the beaten path, kind of in between downtown and Georgetown. The crowd here seems to be a little bit from everywhere. I'm not sure if it's the food or drink that draw people here, or maybe the nice servers. I think they're all women? Slim's has got great food, at least for everything I've tried which recently included the chili with slow cooked brisket. The drink menu seems vast and there are a lot of top shelf liquors and beers to choose from. The service is always top notch, and you don't have to wait long to be offered another drink. I can't give a bigger recommendation to stop and check this place out. read more

This is your home town, after work, get together with the guys kind of bar. They definitely have a "type" who go there often, but regardless, I love it! I had their chili both times, one was the white bean and the other was there basic. I can definitely say I enjoyed tjhe white bean a lot more, and their mac in cheese is delicious. My fiancee is somewhat of a wing-addict and looked up this place on our first trip and fell in love with the tasty homemade rub/sauce mixture they use here. Note to all parents: No kids are allow in the actually bar-- but you can go the barbecue restaurant next door and order from Slim's menu. I ordered the two chili (red's and chili verdi) and the mac-n-cheese. I was disappointed-- the red chili was overwhelming with spice that you can't really taste anything. The meat was dry--and had no flavor--except for the spice--no flavor. The chili verdi was good-- pork was tasty and the mac-n-cheese was good. Not sure if I would recommend the Chili Shack. In fact, three people in our party who ate the red chili got major stomach issues that day. We might try the barbecue menu next time we are in town. read more

I'm all about divey places like this and it's high time I made it here! I'd driven by a thousand times and finally a friend suggested we meet for happy hour. In Thursday it's $2 tacos & Tecate so we decided it had to happen. My friend seemed to know all the bartenders & they were very nice and attentive. Toward the end of our time there we switched to soda and at one point the bartender actually came over, grabbed my glass, and refilled it without being asked. I'm not sure that has ever happened to me (especially with soda!) in a bar. I didn't feel like a taco so I went with chips & queso (also $2). It's a small portion but that's fair for so cheap! The chips were more like pita chips than your typical tortilla chips, but I liked them fine (my friend was less of a fan - your mileage may vary). I really want to come back in the summer when they open the doors to the patio. It seems like it would be really fun! read more

Biker type of bar, in a light industrial, blue collar part of town. Not a fake dive bar-the real deal. I really liked this place and would love to come back at night. Slim's is what happens when you take the concept of a Honky-tonk, center the menu around chili, and import it into Seattle. Most of the Honky-tonks I was familiar with in Texas had BBQ, but here that would be the Pig Iron next door. Everything is very rockabilly in it's sensibilities. From the license plates on the walls, to the vinyl couches with Elvis and Dogs Playing Poker on them. The chili is very good. I tend to go for the Bowl of Texas Red served over cheese grits. I'm told by my compatriots that the burger and the chili-cheese dogs are also good, but I always get chili when I come here. I'm also fond of the jalapeno mac n cheese, and the cornbread. The wait-staff have always been pleasant, attentive, and pretty quick. All that being said, I've always come here for lunch, so YMMV. read more

Right off, be prepared that Slims is a bar first and foremost. Yes, they serve food, but they're primarily a bar not a restaurant. They often have live shows too, so if you just want some chili and a drink, be sure you aren't going during a show time. If you're a TRUE chili fanatic, you'll likely be disappointed. Their chili is... OK but nothing to rave about by any means. It's also incredibly overpriced. For example: 1 shallow bowl of chili (their bowls look big, but are very shallow & don't hold much) with one topping and one draft beer will run you about $15-$16 before tip. For me, that's just too expensive for such mediocre chili. I think they let their appearance on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives go to their head. If you're looking for a good spot to catch a show, Slim's is definitely that. It is small and intimate with an outdoor patio for shows and an indoor option as well. The shows I've seen there have all been interesting, the most recent being the Reverend Beat Man - he plays the guitar and drums at the same time! As a short person, I have some advice for the indoor performances Slim's is also a good option when you want to have a few drinks. The bartenders are always friendly and give you a good pour each time. Plus the pricing isn't too bad. As for food, Slim's is well known for the chili so I obviously wanted to try it. After my 4th visit to Slim's, I finally had a chance to do that. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed in it. I had the brisket and bean chili but the jalapeno mac and cheese that should have been at the bottom of my bowl wasn't there, the chili wasn't very warm and just seemed to fall a little short. Maybe I chose the wrong version? I'm not sure but I've always smelled the food in the air and loved the smell. I would still want to try more things there though! read more

I predict this will be Seattle's answer to SF's infamous Zietgiest Bar. Cool new joint for bikers, rockabilly types, their friends and people that just appreciate motorcycles. Awesome decor. Modern Chili shack with a mix of old and new.. One side has the ol' garage door that remains open on the summer days.. I love it! Outdoor patio is under construction. I wanted to like this place. I love chili, and dive bars that play live music and have good food. Though me may be back for drinks and music, we will not be eating here again. We had ordered a side of fries, a chili cheese dog and the wings. Everything tasted good, the flavors were different from what we were used to but we were satisfied upon leaving. dunn.dunn.dun... 15-20 minutes after leaving, something did not feel right. Stopped here with my family because of Triple D. We've ate at many of the restaurants from the show nationwide. We were greeted at the front with smiling faces but we noticed a sign, no minors under 21. My daughter had her 5 year old. We were told we couldn't come in BUT, the restaurant next door is owned by the same person and we could sit in there but order off of Slims menu. Awesome customer service! Our order, our grandson is a very picky eater. She had his order down without a blink and all of our food was excellent. We had brisket chill over polenta, brisket sandwich, red chili covered kobe hotdog and a hamburger. Food, excellent, Service, excellent. Prices were very good. Great Dive! read more

I can't get enough of this place and we will drive over 15 miles each way to cure our craving. Generally, I am not a fan of wings, but their wing sauce is made in-house and it is amazing (so is the house made blue cheese dip that comes on the side). Maybe people who are not a fan of the wings might be looking for the more traditional Frank's RedHot Buffalo style sauce? The chili is also outstanding. I have tried all of them and the pork verde is easily my favorite. All are delish and the dollop of white cheddar grits on the bottom is the icing on the cake. The gals behind the bar are great, one of them remembers what beer I like and I don't have to order anymore. Love that! The only reason that I dock a star? For toting themselves as a blue-collar establishment, the prices definitely do NOT reflect this claim. The beers are served in a mason jar, not a pint, so they are smaller than normal beers (the prices are not smaller). The portions are not huge, but I would rather pay more money for less food of a higher quality. But I must be clear: I DO NOT mind paying slightly higher prices due to the high quality of the food. Fun atmosphere and great pub food. Went to Slim's with a large group and shared the wings, tacos and fries. The wings were delicious. The tacos were awesome - they get their meat from the BBQ joint next door which was on point. The fries were pretty good, too... a little greasy but nice salt content and they came out piping hot (just the way I like it). read more

We happened to stop here because of the Trip D location. We happened upon a bike club fundraiser/ bike run so drove up on about 200 bikes. So what do you do in the middle of 200 bikers??? I drove by this place so many times without stopping in. When I finally did, I wasn't disappointed! A very cool vibe on the inside - kind of a western biker bar. Pool table isn't open right now but I'll probably be stopping by when it is. And their burgers were very good and delicious seasoned fries! Will go again for sure :) read more
