Smarty Pants is a cool, no frills restaurant and bar in Georgetown. Located in a really cool area next to some awesome stores. There is no frills here- standard seating, typical bar. Food is fantastic- myself, and the three people with me all loved our sandwiches. Italian beef was delicious- I would pass on the potato salad. French Dip was scarfed down- one of my husband's favorite French dips- in his words. We all shared the chips in queso as an appetizer- was shocked how spicy it was, but was very addicting. My only reason for 4 stars is that two of ordered Moscow Mules and we were brought what we thought were Whiskey Sours- definitely not what we ordered. Food: we split the Chicago Italian Beef with provolone cheese and the Taylor Street Italian. The Italian beef was superb--wouldn't change a thing. The Taylor Street was mediocre--the cold cuts were whatever and it needed some sort of zing. For sides, the green salad with bleu cheese dressing was outstanding, thanks to the house-made dressing, but the chips and salsa were lackluster due to the stale chips. The salsa was good. I love this place. Came in for lunch and was instantly greeted by a friendly server named Mel. Since this was my first time she was quick to give me a thorough history lesson on this place which I believe she said had been around for 30 years. She also explained the sandwiches I was interested in on the menu and they were incredible. Chicago style. I went with the Pit Boss and it didn't disappoint. The ambiance is unique and is very much "biker bar" themed however the crowd was very diverse. They have motorcycle racing on all the TV's which is unique. After a multi year absence, I met a friend here tonight for happy hour and - as far as the Georgetown dive bar scene goes - Smarty Pants didn't disappoint. It's still got that under-the-freeway vibe, strong drinks, a great taplist, and tasty eats. I ordered the tangerine turmeric beer which was light and crisp. For food, I settled on Ms Piggy, a French roll filled with pulled pork, slaw, cheese and bbq sauce. Cane in tonight for the first time . We were gonna go to A place down the street but they were having a Christmas party, so we came to Smarty Pants and we are so glad we did!! I'm sure they are very delicious not I got the bad end of the deal from ordering here cause my delivery guy picked up my food and didn't drop it off to me till 47 minutes after picking out up from the restaurant so it was pretty cold and cold burgers are not too great at all so maybe one day I'll have to go check it out again. 'Ello Chaps, So the name Smarty Pants for some reason conjured up some notion that perhaps I was stumbling into a vegan or vegetarians' hot spot or the like - not really sure why - but the least expecting what some biker grub bar of sort. No no, not a Hell's Angel's kind of biker bar, but a motocross themed kind of restaurant and bar. The theming isn't over the top to but a turn on or turn off, and really it doesn't matter. From weekend brunch to M-F regular mainstays, they've got a great menu with a diverse set of offerings - vegetarian and gluten free too. Burgers galore, French dip, etc. Like it hot? They've got sauces. Loved everything about this place. Just a good neighborhood spot that hit the spot when hungry and craving a burger. I love the menu and the food at Smarty Pants. The vibe is fun and it's a relaxing, comfortable place. The service is....OK. The servers are always friendly but there is not a ton of hustle. They are also weird about cash. I paid my bill with cash and exact change. The server wouldn't take the change and told me it's because they "just round it". When she brought my change back, it was less than I should have gotten because they round the amount owed up. It's a dumb policy. read more

Known for their sandwiches, especially the hot ones, this place was bustlin' during the lunch hour on a weekday. Located in Georgetown, Smarty Pants is a sandwich eatery with a full bar. In addition to their sandwiches, they have some shareable items, such as nachos and Frito pie. But I encourage all to get a sandwich and make your side the homemade potato salad, which was almost as good as dad's. I ordered the special of the day, which was a turkey pesto sandwich with the homemade potato salad for my side. My sandwich was super yummy, especially since it was pressed; so it was extra delicious, with the warm pesto. I was also impressed with the homemade potato salad, which was served chilled and had its chunks. Nothing worse than a soft, mushy potato salad! It was chunky with onions, and was light on the mayo, so I could really taste the potato. The only bummer about Smarty Pants was the service. Not sure if it was because it was packed or what, but service was super slow. Our server took down our orders, but never asked if we wanted anything to drink, or even brought us water. My colleague made eye contact with him from across the room to get her lemonade, which she had to remind him of after initially asking for it. If you're in a hurry for lunch - this may not be the best option for dining in, so order ahead of time! Other than that, I would come back to Smarty Pants.
