So I can't add anything to the critiques of my fellow Yelpers. This is a hole in the wall dive bar. I saw 3 tables full of suit and ties while I was there for lunch though. I had great friendly service. The Texas red chili I had was very good, the corn bread very good, and the porter went perfectly with everything. Yep, a Black Butte porter. Sweet. This place is the hole-in-the-wall that isn't. I feel comfortable hanging at Slim's no matter what the occasion. They have awesome chili and burgers; the drinks are good and strong, and they have events like music and vintage car shows all the time. I don't go out nearly as much as I used to, so they don't see me all that often these days unless I am craving some of their Turkey and White Bean chili, or I am in need of a big ass burger. One last note... My wife and I rented Slim's Last Chance over the summer of '17 and tied the Knot right there! There is something unnerving about eating an $10+ bowl of chili. When it comes to food in general, I usually don't mind throwing down any amount, as long as the food delivers. There is also the whole thing about eating food that is notorious for causing...disagreeable digestive issues later. But hey, I've never let that stop me before. With that said, I've got to say that the Turkey and White Bean Chili was really good. Just shy of 4 stars. I chose to have mine on top of mac and cheese, which was a mistake as it turns out that night, as they scraped the last dry, 'leavings bits' from their mac and cheese pan and used that to set my chili on. But I don't hold grudges, Slim! I may try the mac and cheese alone on the side the next time I'm there, and when I do the Turkey chili again (not a red meat eater) I'll opt for grits--which I love anyways. The husband-type fellow that I hang out with had the Chili Cheese Kobe dog with the works. It was exactly what he wanted to eat, he said; but also said that the hot dog was not earth-shatteringingly different than any other quality hot dog. He also ordered the corn bread, which was pretty good too. The live music was great here! Interesting covers of popular music--I wish I could remember his name--I would watch him perform again. Good, mellow energy throughout the restaurant, which is why the 4-star rating stands. This man has eaten in most major capitals around the world (he's an avid traveler like his child), and lives and dines in Caracas, known as one of the top gastronomic cities of South America. So when it comes to my Dad's "Oh, this is incredible!"...it IS good! This is also a gentlemen who previously dined at Canlis, El Gaucho and Le Gourmand. He and his son-in-law (a.k.a The Dude) enjoyed the Brisket n' Bean Chili (Pig Iron slow smoked brisket, ground angus beef, fire roasted tomatoes & red beans) to a point where they almost licked their plates (hey, not on my watch though!). I had my usual cuppa of their wonderful Turkey & White Bean Chili (ground turkey, white beans, and serrano chilies simmered in a hearty broth), with a side of warm corn bread and honey butter (delightful!). Mac n' cheese at Slims is pretty perfect. After living in Atlanta for 5 years and smothering my face with Mac n' cheese on a regular basis, I'm always in the quest for, at least, a good imitation. This one, my lovelies, is the real deal (take that, Beecher's!). Their music selection ain't my cup of tea but...you know what? There's a place and space for all music lovers. They also function as a music venue and have free pool on Mondays. Oh man, and if I could bring them bottles to get some of their "Mother's Milk" Cocktail (Horchata & Vodka) to go, they would have a couple of rotating cases with my name on them around. It is glorious libation! Very funny, my Dad (who is 72) was digging the bartender/waiters gals tattoos. He's not used to see them, so he asked the lady taking care of us to show him her awesome skin art. She showed him, big smile on her face. This review is for the service. The food is divine. I have been to this place three times now. Each time I have been happy with the food but the last time I ordered takeout and over the phone the waitress was very confusing. I felt there should be a better way to explain what was the best way to order food for two people. I ended up ordering 65 dollars worth of food. If I buy two quarts of chili you cant throw in some cheese and sour cream for free? When I got there the same waitress who took my order on the phone was rude. When I realized how much the total was I asked for the managers name. At that point she got hostile. I tried to explain to her that I just wanted to make a suggestion to the manager about how they could go about training their staff to explain takeout ordering better. Her response I anwsered all your questions and felt I did my best. This is what she said after huffing and puffing around the bar making a scene and making me feel like an ass for even asking. Look I work in customer service. One people are going to complain and I was trying to do it nicely. And two when they complain you dont become even more hostile to them. I wish this wouldnt have even taken place. I didnt mind paying what I did, I didnt mind getting lots of food. I heard about the mac and cheese here at Slim's and my only regret after finally making it there a week ago was that I didn't get an entire bowl of JUST the mac and cheese. Anyway, we stopped in after an afternoon of beers nearby at the Two Beers Brewery. We were definitely hungry. As we looked over the menu, the bartender came over quickly and ordered our drinks. It was clear from the menu that you should definitely get a chili bowl layered on top of their Jalapeno Mac and Cheese. Most of us ordered the Brisket n' Bean which included pig Iron slow smoked brisket, ground Angus beef, fire roasted tomatoes & red beans. Yummy in my Tummy.... I absolutely love this place and will bring my friends here for sure! I would love to have a party here too. It's more of a biker bar type, with a pool table and painted skulls, think of a tattoo parlor. They also have a stage in which they have weekly live bands playing, and a large outdoor area, perfect for a summer party. The only weird thing is the women's bathroom sink. Two faucets - really HOT or COLD. You kinda have to splash the two water streams to get lukewarm and I think I scalded my hand a bit. On to the important part... the FOOD.... Must try: -texas red with beef is very flavorful with some spice to it. -chili verde with pork is full of flavor.. it is the featured chili on the Food Network show... forgot the name of the show but there's a clip of it on the Slim's website. -jalapeno mac and cheese goes well with both of the chilis above. -sour cream and shredded cheese is a must, don't know why it tastes so good mixed in with the chili -slims last chance burger was cooked to perfection.... i want more right NOW! -creamsicle drink... some vanilla stoli with orange cream soda i think.. came out looking like a float. it was a different kind of cocktail than I am used to but it was so delicious! This is a bar that doesn't do too well at straddling the line of hip-divey and lame-divey. Went there with some buds, and after waiting for the lone bartender to get to me for 15 minutes she informs me she is out of both pitchers and cups. How does that happen? My dear good Texas friends, being the chili experts they are, invited me to check this place out. They wanted to find out if Seattle chili could compare to Texas chili plus a Texas beer they were fans of was served there. On a Tuesday night we met at Slim's. My dad soon joined us. Upon hearing there was a chili shack he absolutely had to go. There were about six other people there besides us. The interior reminds me of a truck stop in the middle of nowhere on Route 66. You've got a bar, a seating area, a small stage (they have concerts on the weekend), a pool table, and the tiny corner kitchen in the back. Despite the weather being so so, the roll up doors were opened which created a cool airy space. There was a kitchy factor but who can't appreciate the pistols and velvet paintings or the huge bear used for soda advertisments back in the day? The waitress greeted us with a smile and took our drink order. While waiting we took a look at the menu. Beef or chicken chili. Chili on hotdogs or on burgers. Nothing for the non-meat eater besides a wedge salad which came with bacon bits. Scrolling further down I spotted sides which included cheese grits and jalapeno mac and cheese. The waitress returned with our drinks and I asked if there was any vegetarian chili. No such luck. I ordered myself a side of corn bread and cheese grits. My friend ordered the chili and the other got a chili burger and both ordered the chili cheese fries for an appetizer. My dad got himself and my mom the Texas Red chili and then ordered a whopping six extra corn breads. What can I say? This is a southern man who likes his corn bread. My dad bid us adieu and our food arrived within a reasonable amount of time. Steaming plates of chili were set in front of my friends while I was reduced to a tiny cup of grits and corn bread. The corn bread was a tiny loaf which I found so adorable. It came with honey butter. I dug into the grits and was a but underwhelmed. They were cheesy alright but just didn't hit the spot. The corn bread loaf was good and with the addition of the butter made it ever more tasty. Its not as good as the Jiffy corn bread my mom made but it'll do. My friend's said their food was not bad. After finishing our meals we continued to drink and chat. I was not even close to feeling satisfied so I ordered a side of fries and asked if it was possible to get cheese on them. No problem at all. My fries were thick cut with the skins still attached, crunchy and even black on some parts. Yummy. My friends and I enjoyed our time at Slim's. The food was satisfactory but not a great option for vegetarians that want to leave full, unless you want to order a dozen of the sides. read more

I went here on a Friday night (3-9 )to go see a band. It was very crowded and not very large. Seems the band I was seeing was quite popular as after they left stage, so did all the other patrons. I first go into the bathroom and see a mason jar on the urinal. For some reason mentally, I thought "ewwwww gross" but I have seen many a pint glass on urinals at other dive bars and not really made that connection. So needless to say I think mason jars should be used for canning fruits and vegetables so I just ordered bottled beer. The bartender was good and cracked my beer for me in a timely manner. So that doesn't really sound like a one star.............. When I arrived I said hello to some other friends that I knew. One friend was complaining that the sound guy "yelled" at her. Apparently she had asked to turn up the vocals and he freaked out. (I couldn't hear the vocals all night.) So later on in the night, I am buying beer for me and my girlfriend at the bar. She is standing next to the sound guy by 5 of my other friends. there wasn't much room to stand anywhere else. Without warning this older, greying, rounded man (the "soundman")said, "EXCUSE ME" and SHOVED my girlfriend. My girlfriend was about to say "OH sorry, Ill move" but he shoved her right as he said excuse me. So I get back to the group of friends and they are telling me he 'shoved' her. I said "pushed her a little?" My friends all said that no, he "shoved" her. I have too much to lose so decided to let it go and not confront him. I hope their management or owner can control this guy. That was absolutely out of line! And Im sure that wasn't the first time he has misbehaved. read more

I'm a chili novice, but I'm always up for an adventure, and that's what we had at Slim's. This is a rustic, low key roadhouse bar with a come-as-you-are vibe. We came for the chili and will definitely return soon. Service was prompt and no-frills once a member of our group located a server at the bar. There are 4 chili varieties, as well as the usual options for toppings (cheese, jalapenos, etc.). You can also get your chili over mac and cheese or jalapeno grits. Being a chili noob, I went with a cup of turkey & white bean chili, no toppings. The flavors blended together well, without any one ingredient overpowering the others. I do wish it had been a little spicier -- this was probably about a 2 out of 5, and could be pushed up to 3 or 4 to give it some real zing. There are some hot sauces on the tables, but as one of our companions pointed out, the problem with those sauces is the vinegar. Perhaps Slim could set out some pepper flakes or cayenne on the table? I'm glad I ordered a cup, as it's actually the equivalent of a small bowl. Go for the bowl if you're really hungry or in need of a meat fix. And no chili is complete without a side of corn bread. Slim's corn bread is moist, even without the tasty, delicate honey butter. But do indulge - it's worth it! Slim's has live music later in the evenings, and there is an outdoor patio that looks very promising for those long summer nights. One chili down, three more to go... read more

The Belch-A-thon started before we got to the car and we proceeded to gas each other for the rest of the night. We split a Mac and cheese and I had a chili burger and my sweet heart had the chili dog. The atmosphere was kinda cool and the staff was nice I thought $27 plus tip = $31 was kinda high for a hot dog hamburger and a small bowl of mac and cheese. My significant other yelled at me the other day for spending ten bucks on a bowl of chili here. The truth is, I am a chili nut and this place fills that need. I went and tried the Texas Red (good but Chili Verde is better!) the first time with a frito pie and the last visit was a bowl of Chili Verde with the works. The Chili Verde was spot on for me. It had onions, jalapenos, sour cream and about four big pieces of Frito like corn chips strategically place on the outer edges of the plate. I moved up to Seattle a few years back, and one thing I noticed immediately is a sad lack of good chili. Unbelievable, really, in a town as wet and prone to chilly weather. There's a reason why it's called CHILI WEATHER. *drum crash* This place is kind of out in a bit of no-man's land, also known as Georgetown. Hahahahaha *cough* sorry, I should probably edit this before one of the local greaser guys finds me and cuts me up with his motorcycle blowtorch. Speaking of motorcycles, this place is a bit of a biker bar. And they serve chili. And there is plenty of street parking, as there's really not a whole hell of a lot going on in this neighborhood, besides the barbecue joint next door. The interior is woody and divey. The interior of the bowls of chili can include mac and cheese or grits. And when you shovel into your interior, you will be a happy, warm individual. They have several types of chili, including some veggie options, and a whole bunch of other stuff on their menu. I'm looking forward to coming back in and trying out a chili burger, which is another item that is sadly missing in Seattle. If this place has a decent one--and I can't imagine they don't--well, I suppose it'll be time to sing hallelujah and shoot off a couple bottle rockets. Don't worry, I won't tell the folks back home. This place is the definition of "poser". I was expecting a chili-slinging dive-bar with beer flowing and real "characters" hanging around. It's like it wants to be that, but not at the expense of possibly offending anyone. Their rule of not allowing anyone under 21 is completely unnecessary except to keep annoying, screaming children out. This is where the hipsters and Gen "Y"ers can come and think they're at some road-side rough dive bar. I've never seen so many messenger bags or so many slacker-cool haircuts with ironic pun shirts at any dive bar. Nor have I seen that many blazer/sweater combos at any bar of any type. There were guys getting out of Volkswagons with cowboy hats and cowboy boots and stylish cowboy shirts. Not something that happens at a "dive" bar. The band that was playing last night was a band that kept saying "are you ready to rock?!" to a bunch of older people that you would have considered the "cool" english-lit professors from UW and rebel-without-a-clue 70s babies. Which definitely fit the band as they wrote all their songs every song to be about a different novel that they read. I wouldn't even classify them as nerd-core. Not really fitting the "dive-bar" feel. The identity crisis continues in the food. I had the Brisket and Beans chili. Not bad, not the best I've ever had, but not bad. I also got the cornbread which was respectable. I wasn't expecting culinary gold, in fact I was expecting some cubed beef stewed with beans, rice and hot peppers. Instead I got a feeble attempt at "gourmet chili". It was in the middle, completely forgettable. In a dive-bar you're either shocked that the food is awesome, or the food is simply greasy fuel that is part of the "experience". Also, explain to me how they have different chilis and also hamburgers, but no chili-burgers. I saw a man want a chili-burger and they told him they didn't do that. Excuse me, but how is this place in any way above putting chili on a hamburger? This is the "Applebees" of "dive" bars. Meaning it's completely safe, like Applebees, but looks like a seedy bar. The decor is like a dive bar, rough wood liquor shelves, industrial looking bar, neon signs and Dia de los Muertos style paintings. But with all the hipsters and the literature-centric band, and a demographic that looks like a cross section of UW's English department, it adds up to just a mess of juxtaposition. read more

A Texas Road house Vibe that's a more Polished than my movie references bars of Itty ister and Porkys....but Slim's Last chace has a friendly staff and Really Good Chili! I expected a guy outside Yelling about all the vairty's of Chili they have. The one I tried was the Chili Verde ontop of Mac n Cheese.. It was really really...Really good...Spicy but the cheese kinda cut the spice but it's full of flavor and the Tillamook covered mac n cheese really gave it a nice flavor and texture. After Eatting here I had the most impressive Gnarilest Burbs! I knew Where I wanted to eat for lunch the next day...But uh.I found out ...probably should come here if you got the lower intestines of steel or have no planes in the next morning, But It's totally Worth it! But I really do enjoy the chili here and would differently go back.. Guy who's done commercials for TGI Fridays came here for his show and I do think the Staff is friendly, the place is clean and even polished but don't expect it being TGI Fridays...Slims is authentic chili Bar in Georgetown. This place is probably one of the last place that I would go to in Seattle. Your typical dive bar but with great food!! You probably would not catch me coming here regularly since I don't really drink. Another place that my brother found in Seattle that is supposedly known for their chili. We had the chili verde and the texas red chili. The texas red (is really red) and really good!! I thought it was going to be a spicy chili but it wasn't at all. This is one of those places where if you have heartburn, make sure you take tums or some sort of antacid before you go. Its a very hearty chili that I couldn't even finish myself. Even though this place isn't one of those places I would go to hangout, I def would want to come back for chili!!! They have a couple other types of chili that I am looking forward to try. I work in the area so after about 10 visits to Slim's, consider the 3-star rating a reasonable working average. Food's pretty good, service & ambiance? Not so much. (also? Had no idea they were on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, but this is one of the least "dive-y" dives I've been in. It's clean & well-lit.. What - no sawdust?) How to do it -- pick your chili. I recommend the Texas Red if you don't want to mess around with fillers - like beans- in your chili. Just once I've had the Texas Red fail to impress - but one time out of 10 isn't so bad when they make it from scratch every day, right? It's not as spicy as I like chili - but there's Cholula on the table for a reason, right? The chili verde is also awfully tasty - slow-simmered pork is pretty much always a good choice. After you pick your chili, decide if you want it served over grits (why?!) and (wait for it!) Jalapeno Mac n' Cheese! ALWAYS choose the mac (as if anyone has to actually give you this instruction...) Now the downside? Waitstaff isn't the friendliest in town; be prepared to wait if you're not one of the regulars (apparently, regulars can do whatever the hell they want- including sit barefoot at the bar. With their bare feet propped up on the stool next to them. Gross). Even on a 'quick' lunch, be prepared to track down your check and you'll probably have to run up to the counter to get a refill on your water, diet Coke, etc. Is the food good enough to overcome the crummy service? Not really. But if you're in the neighborhood, the choices for a decent sit-down lunch are limited. You could do worse than Slim's. read more

For me, my favorite chili place in Seattle. Nothing better than a Manny's to wash it down! They mostly have Georgetown beers on tap which is a huge plus. I have never strayed from the Texas red, which I find hearty and comforting. For extra you can get the works which gets you all the toppings you could imagine. I really like the decor, it's fun, nostalgic and charming in a way. I have brought both my parents and they love it. Sometimes the themey bars are cheesy and obnoxious but this one suits me just fine. The service is always great even when they are busy. The gals aren't bad too look at either, they mostly have that pinup look which is super cute. One downside though is last time I was here I got a Bloody Mary which was way too salty and spicy. I watered it down with extra tomato juice water and it was still too much. I would say that it was presented very nicely but I will probably stick to beer next time. read more

A friend suggested I try Slims Last Chance during my stay in Seattle. Knowing this place had been featured on Food Network's Diners, Dine Ins and Dives I decided to find out how much smoke Guy Fieri actually blows. I was not surprised that he is spot on. I walked into the place located in an industrial/commercial area of town thinking I should trade my t-shirt and jeans for leather jacket and boots. The ruggedness of the place appears to be an appealing venue for a biker riot but invites those some bikers to settle their differences over a cold draft as the 6 foot Hamm's Beer Bear statue gazes upon. My chili selection was the Brisket'n'Bean Chili. Slim's unique selection of side items to be mixed with the chili made the experience much more appetizing. For those of you who are for the ethical treatment of your arteries, move on to another review. Your side item choices are grits or mac and cheese. I opted for the mac and cheese and threw on mama's lil peppers not before asking our patient server if a man of my stature could dominate the potential fire of the incoming (and eventually outgoing) peppers. Turns out they were quite mild. The served chili was a delectable sight and irresistible taste. The explosion of flavor in my mouth was an experience never before sensed. My taste buds were partying to the flavors of perfectly tender and generous quantities of pork, creaminess of mac and cheese, tomatoes, and beans. The peppers gave the dish the perfect kick I longed for. All in all and exhilarating adventure. The spectacular beer selection further added to the experience. Cold brews and warm chili never hurt anyone. The meal at slims revives the soul. I was pleasantly surprised the "morning after" experience was not a painful one. Who doesn't like chili? Better yet a bar built on the love of chili is a winner! Based on what I read and heard about this place, I truly expected a memorable experience. Had it not been for Yelp asking me to review this place, I certainly would have lived a life not even recalling the day I finally wandered in. The place was clean and despite a few slanted looks, the people were typically friendly. The heavily tattooed bartender's service was sweet and cheerful. I was actually quite impressed with her dedication to engaging me and talking up the product. I had the Texas Red and right away wished I had garlic salt, crushed chili pepper and a host of seasoning. It had rich flavor and a bite, but the flavor although seasoned, really needed a lot of help. The server gave me two samples. The chili verde was similar to the Texas Red in that I had to shake some salt on it to wake it up, but it was better than the red. The turkey chili was amazing, however, I'm not a fan of white beans, so I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wanted Mikes Chili Bar in Ballard is much better chili for a much better price and in my opinion well worth the additional 15 minutes behind the wheel. Slim's isn't a chili bar, it's a bar with chili on the menu.Originally I gave this two stars, but the chili was below average, overpriced and under seasoned, then someone from the bar mailed me to name call, so I'm taking a star away for being a bad sport. Looking for delicious Chili and amazing Jalapeno Mac and Cheese? You gotta stop here. This little Dive (Featured on Triple D!) knows that it does well and makes sure that is all it does. Whether you like beef, pork or turkey, there is an option for you. I stopped by twice in a 3 day trip to Seattle (First and Last meal of the trip) for some heaven in a bowl. The ambiance is that of biker bar meets local punk rock venue. If you can get over the fact that you might not be wearing enough denim to fit in, the food is to die for. This place does chili justice, it comes to you piping hot, and has the perfect balance between flavor and heat. The only thing keeping me from rating it 5 stars is the slow service. Of the 2 times we stopped by, we sat roughly 10 minutes before the wait staff come over to ask what we would like to drink. Once we did order our food, it came out quickly. After that we were given what seemed like another 15 minutes to come to terms with the fact that a check was coming. Overall a place that is a must visit! read more

Dear Diary, I came to slims today in search for some chili and beer. I have been here many times before and the service was good and the food even better. However, this time it was like a game show gone wrong of if what came from the kitchen matched what we ordered. This game went on for over an hour, finally the food came out. As usual the food was good, but this extended wait was quite unacceptable. In fact, our food was delayed even more than my mate's were. After finishing the checks was another disaster. Given we were 16 people, but checks were a mess, multiple checks that had food on them no one ordered! This was a crazy day at slims and but a very bad taste in my mouth for this place. Diary, I won't be going back there for a while. I'd also recommend that no one goes back with a big party! read more

Was visiting the Seattle area, and I am always interested in visiting Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives locations. Came in here for an early dinner. It's definitely a dive, small establishment with a dozen or less tables a small bar and pool table. The food was pretty awesome, ordered the brisket and bean chili over some jalapeño Mac and cheese. The beers are also excellent, cold and cheap during happy hour. The only complaint is that I was expecting a bigger bowl of chili, after seeing most DDD portions. The service was very good also, quite a few waitress/ bartenders that were very attentive to everyone's needs. Definitely a place to visit if your in the area looking for a cold beer and a fresh bowl of chili. read more

Food here was over rated...service needs serious help. Been to the Pig Iron BBQ right next door and now here; and I am certain the staff for both places comes from the same disgruntled pool of folks. I am sure being a waiter/waitress sucks...but if that is your chosen way to make some coin at least act like you are not bothered by those handing over their cash. Had the chili cheese burger, fries, and a limeade. Chili was ok, burger patty was cooked to almost charcoal status. Limeade had a bitter taste to where I think it was made with the lime juice that comes from those plastic limes. Fries were actually good but not worth the $3.50. Overall got a bill for $18 and change for an experience that will keep me away in the future. read more

Slim's Last Chance - Turkey and white bean chili, white cheddar grits, and cornbread with honey butter - Bars Near Me - Seattle, Washington

*Best Commercial Backyard In Seattle* The one thing that keeps me coming back is Slim's backyard area. It's got full southern exposure, which, dear Seattle-ites, means you've got many many hours to soak in the sun (when it's out) in the summertime. There's about 10 picnic tables back there (but why? why? why? the umbrellas!? We need our Vitamin D people!!!), grass on the ground, and a large broken down truck that serves as a stage. Imma vegetarian, so meat and chili and crawfish are out, but I do enjoy the Jalapeño Mac 'n Cheese (a bit buttery), grits (hells yes), and cornbread (not the best, but not the worst). Imma drinker, and although the Mason jars the beer is served in may be clever, I feel more than slightly slighted that it's less than 16 oz. It also tends to dribble down my chin due to the screw top part - now that's a *real* drinking problem. The staff has always been considerate and conscientious when I've been there and that's between 11 and 3 partner. I can't vouch for other times. FYI: Their bbq is from Pig Iron BBQ right next door. Just think you should know that. read more
