I can never remember to take photos of meals I decide to review as an afterthought. I just started frequenting the Slipper Noodle last month and have been back five times. This last time I went on a Sunday to kill some time. I ordered the Double cheeseburger with bacon. Bruh!!! Honestly, that might have been the best burger of my life. I ordered it medium well and it came out firm but juicy with good smoke flavor and the bacon was real bacon - thick and fatty, not thin and tasteless. I highly recommend it. I feel like a trip to Indy is probably not complete without a visit to this place. It's historical, the oldest continuously operating bar or something. The inside is very quirky and dive-bar-esque. We happened to be in town during St. Patty's day weekend so they had some themed drink specials. We both very much enjoyed the shamrock shooters. They had baileys in them. First visit here, from out of town. Amazing food and excellent service. They have burgers, fries, and yes...noodles. All was very fresh outstanding. This place has a bar on one side but a separate sit down family restaurant on the other. The play live music as well. It is well within walking distance from the Lucas Oil Stadium. Highly recommend. Note that there is not specific parking. There is a pay lot next door, not sure of the cost. If you can walk there, that is probably easier. read more

My group has made the Slippery Noodle an annual tradition when visiting Indianapolis for a work conference. We have a few guys that play harmonica, drums, and guitar. Alongside pub grub, they offer plenty of drinks and the staff is tolerant enough to take care of the crowd. We never waited long for a drink. I got an issue of Imbibe magazine that featured Indy, so we took a weekend a hit up (almost all) of the recommendations. Honestly, the history of this bar is what gives it 4 stars. In food and beverage, it is an average bar with nothing notable that would leave me coming back. I was a bit surprised it was mentioned in the article as all of the other bars had unique cocktail menus. However, the history was great and we even got a tour from one of the staff members (it was early on a Saturday, so it wasn't too busy). There is even a bullet in wall allegedly for John Dillinger! DO NOT GO HERE TO WATCH COLLEGE FOOTBALL! We came from out of town to watch the BIG10 championship game. We didn't have tickets to the game, so wanted to find a good spot to watch it. All the bars had extremely long lines. After hearing about the big screen projectors at the slippery noodle, we decided to get in line. We waited about an hour to get in. It would have been a shorter wait but the door man continued to let people skip the line and get in the bar without waiting. Pretty frustrating. Once inside, I loved how rustic and awesome it was. The main bar at the front is great. Then there is room after room of tables and TVs. Once we went to the back room, we knew that's where we wanted to stay to watch the game. The room had a huge projector screen over a stage and a second level too. We were there 3 hours ahead of time to get a good table right in front of the giant projector that was playing other football games at the time. Once we were settled, had a clear view of the screen, the Alabama/Georgia game was over and the projector screen was rolled up. Super confused, we asked the guy in the DJ booth next to where we were sitting and he said a band was going to play and the game was not going to be shown in that room. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SIGNS THAT SAID THIS. (THE WAIT STAFF DIDNT EVEN KNOW!) We then frantically went up front, along with 100% of the other people who were also upset, to try to find a seat to watch the game that was starting in 15 min. Of course there was no where to sit. We then saw the guy who either owns or manages the place and I asked him why in the world he had a band playing back in the back room instead of showing the BIG10 tournament game. He said, "because I like music." I then said, "this is the biggest game of the year!," to which he replied, "the Super Bowl is the biggest game of the year." He was completely rude and dismissive of the guests that wanted to watch the game in the packed house back room. We did have some kind people allow us to pull up some seats in the front room with a projector screen, however there was a ton of issues trying to get the sound on. We were told "comcast messed something up". Even when the sound finally came on, it had constant feedback and a loud hum the whole game. I went to the back room during the game to see if anyone was listening to the band and there was 1 table of people. Maybe this is a good blues bar, but the owner guy does NOT care about college football and we will never watch another game there. read more

Slippery Noodle used to be a staple in my Colts game day rituals. I don't remember the last time I was inside for a game until this past week. We were tailgating with friends and found ourselves with about 45 minutes until kick off and no dinner yet. As we walked in, the crowd was thinning out but was still fairly busy. I had to hunt down a server so we weren't feeling very optimistic about an order before the game. We decided to take the risk and ordered potato skins and 2 drinks. Not only was our food out quickly, but we finished in likely less than 5 minutes. One might say we were just hungry but I assure you it was because they were so good. Service was quick, great and we got into our seats for the game with time to spare. Can't wait to return and maybe enjoy the food a bit longer than 5 minutes. read more

Finally went here for a beer and a meal. Tried to visit this place during a Colts Home Game but didn't get there early enough to truly experience the place. Last night we stopped by for dinner. They have live music every night. I had their Chef Salad and a side of Onion Rings that we shared. My son ordered their wings with Spicy BBQ Sauce and some with Lemon Pepper. It's YE Gurl, back at it -- this time with dive bar energy! After watching SINNERS (hands down the greatest movie of 2025 so far, don't @ me) in full IMAX glory, we needed a nightcap with some soul. So we headed to Slippery Noodle, Indy's oldest bar, to do the dive bar scene the right way: live blues, strong drinks, and zero pretense. We grabbed a back table by the main band, which gave perfect people-watching views and a front-row seat to the vibes. Shoutout to Caroline, our server -- even while getting lowkey harassed by a creepy manager (ugh), she stayed gracious, funny, and fast. Tip that woman WELL. Here's what we ordered: 3 Tanqueray and Tonics - $24 (Kept the night moving with strong pours -- just how we like it.) Veggie Quesadilla - $13.99 (Greasy, cheesy, and dive-bar perfect -- exactly what you need to soak up gin.) Literally a hole in the wall bar with a restaurant attached. Been eyeing this place out every time I've been in Indy and ended up finally being able to go in. Bar aides great and you can mingle with people and the back side we got some tacos and beers. Would recommend this place for a night out and late night snacks. Super cool historic spot with live music on the weekends. Walking in on a Friday evening, we paid $5 cover and proceeded through the front bar back to where a band was setting up to play for the evening. Service was good, drinks and food were alright. The espresso martini is made with local coffee, creamy, and not overly sweet. In contrast, the Elwood (cherry vodka, amaretto, coke) was perfectly sweet and crispy on a hot summer night. If you love, live music and local flavor, you will love this place. Id you're more into open stage, there's a room for that as well as a room for a band in another area as well. Whether Indianapolis is hopping or if it's a slow night, this place is something you do not want to miss. The vibe is real.and the drinks are strong. They also have PAC Man and Asteroids!! I saw a social media post with someone saying how good these wings were so I tried them!!!! The server was pleasant, I ordered to go so there isn't much serving that had to be done. The food came out freshly prepared, the taste was good! Wings were crispy even with the sauce on it and they were seasoned. The lemon pepper sauce is very unique, I've always gotten just the spice and butter when ordering this flavor. You can taste the lemon and there was a spicy kick not overwhelmingly spicy. I only gave a 4 because after about 2 wings it started to taste salty however; the celery sticks broke up the salty taste for me so I could enjoy the rest of my food. I haven't been to Slippery Noddle in years like I believe back in 2018 which was under a different management. I decided to go Slippery Noddle Saturday night February 8th since I was already downtown at the IRT for a play called Nina Simone: Four Women. After, the Play ended at 7pm that's when I made my way down to Slippery Noddle, due to concert last night it took me a while to find parking. Once, inside of the building there was a $10 entry fee, Slippery Noddle is really big restaurant which I didn't realize that until last night, and I was trying to find where Tommy Baldwin & his band would play at. Slippery Noddle has two stages the big stage in the back, and the smaller one slightly close to the main bar. There are no stairs entering the building, I only seen stairs going down the lower level areas. Slippery Noddle is the oldest bar in state of Indiana, and there are so much historical facts about this place, from all the late great musicians that once played at Slippery Noddle like Muddy Waters along with others. Most people in Indy heard about the Slippery Noddle history as well as the Blues legends that have performed there, yet don't go there due to it been downtown. Slippery Noddle does have a parking lot that's small, you could park right across the street, street parking, or do ride share to Slippery Noddle. Slippery Noddle is known for having live Blues and Rock musicians on their stages. Harold and Lorean Yeagy acquired the business in 1963. The iconic Meridian Street bar is known for its vibrant jazz scene and spooky history. The Slippery Noodle Inn opened in 1850 as Tremont House, one of the first German clubs in Indianapolis, according to the bar's website. It's gone through a variety of name and ownership changes over the years: Concordia House, Germania House, Beck's Saloon, Moore's Beer Tavern and Moore's Restaurant. It was Moore's Restaurant during Prohibition and the beer still flowed. Legend has it that a basement passageway of the bar was used for people fleeing slavery via the Underground Railroad. Though there's no evidence to support this, the rumor has persisted, according to IndyStar archives. There are also some rumors the place is haunted, making it a stop on local ghost tours. Now, I noticed when I was by the main stage the lights was flickering a lot as if someone was playing with the lights when there was live music playing. My Server name was Rodney I ordered chicken wings (7), fries, coke, cocktail called Mission From God that tasted exactly like a grapefruit, one shot of crown royal peach, and 16oz modelo. The seven chicken wings, thick breading coat, meat was thick, juicy, hot and fresh which no complaints on the chicken wings. I'm pretty sure when the lights were flickering the ghosts were there for sure. Overall, I had a good time at the historic Slippery Noddle, I enjoy live music especially Blues and Rock, the food as well as the drinks were delicious. What an amazing place with history! A friend rented out the top, upstairs part for a small gathering and the staff was on it! Friendly bar tender who also was observant for empty glasses and recalled orders when approaching for refills. The space was a bit tight for the number of people and made for close encounters. The best part was the free tour provided. We met a gentleman on the first floor and proceeded down to the cellar for a tour and history review for the building. So much history and what a great opportunity to get to experience and walk in the same space as those before us. Didn't try any food, just had drinks and would keep this in mind for next time I'm visiting Indy! read more

Came in on a Saturday night to enjoy live music and a few of the March madness games. There was a $10 cover because they had two bands that night. We chose to sit at the back bar with unobstructed views of both the tv and the stage. Our bartender was a female and she was wonderful! Super fast to tend to the lines that occasionally built up and she even walked down to the front bar to get me a beer that she didn't have on her tap. Con of sitting back at that bar was they only had miller and a local IPA on draft. We ordered a few beers and a plate of loaded nachos to split. The nachos were fine. I wish they had a little more cheese and sour cream, but the chips definitely stayed crunchy. The band was great. They played a variety of cover songs from bands like The Doors, Britney Spears, Red Hot Chili Peppers. The decor and ambiance were historic and inviting. I loved all of the posters and signs. If you are from Indy, it's hard to imagine that you haven't at least heard of Slippery Noodle Inn, one of Indy's truly iconic bars and the kind of place that has a reputation that it truly lives into. Slippery Noodle is Indy's oldest continuously operating bar still located in its original location. Founded in 1850 as the Tremont House, Slippery Noodle is on the National Register of Historic Places. It started out as a "roadhouse" and has historically been owned by people of German descent. It has had several name changes over the years and became Slippery Noodle Inn around 1963 when Harold and Lorean Yeagy bought it - on a fun note, especially for those who know of the building's reputation for being haunted, the Yeagy's took possession on October 31st in 1963. Slippery Noodle has a rather amazing history - the "Inn" was a way station for the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. At one point, a bordello opened in what was once a luxurious inn. The bordello was actually open until 1953 when it closed after one customer killed another customer over a woman. During Prohibition, the Brady and Dillinger gangs used the building in back. Many of the historical touches are still in place or at least you can see them The Noodle has remained in the Yeagy family since that time. Hal took over the bar in 1985 after his father's death and since that time it has grown from a one room lunch counter into the Midwest's premiere blues club. These days, the reputation is much calmer. Slippery Noodle is the Midwest's premiere blues club and has hosted many of the greats. It has been visited by dozens of celebrities. It's now the oldest commercial building left standing in Indy and the Tremont House sign painted on the north side of the building dates back to the 1850s. Slippery Noodle is fairly accessible - easy to get into and mostly easy to get around, though for packed concerts it gets more challenging. There's also a basement area that would not be accessible. They do serve a full bar and also food. While most of the food is typical bar fare, they do have some creative diversions. Prices are fairly standard for bars, especially downtown. They do have daily drink specials and some food specials. The food is pretty good and they do also offer catering. Atmosphere is everything and there's an abundance of it here. Employees tend to be friendly in a "bluesy" sort of way. Slippery Noodle isn't necessarily a place I frequent, though it's a place I feel compelled to go on occasion including for live music. If you go during racing season, you'll almost definitely see some drivers and other celebs who come in and stay downtown often end up here. A great historic spot with a fascinating history and an atmosphere that practically screams out that history, Slippery Noodle isn't your hipster bar. It serves up great blues, awesome drinks, good food, and an immersive atmosphere. read more

The Noodle is as iconic as the city of Indianapolis itself. Known for hosting many of the great blues/jazz musicians, and a reputable pre/post game spot for Colts/Pacers games... or really any major downtown event. It's also known as the oldest standing commercial building & longest still-operating bar in Indy -- can you can see the history in just about every corner! Some of the bartops are as original as the house itself. Fee parking is available next to the building and across the street. Guarantee that if there's live music, there will be a cover. I think its usually no more than $10-15. Drinks and food prices aren't bad, comparable for most downtown bars. It's your standard bar food with a couple of flairs. Looks like they still have daily specials as well. No matter where you sit there will be staff around to serve or you can walk up to the bar on your own. If you're looking for good bar food and drinks, this is your place! We went on a Colts game Sunday. We started with the nachos which were loaded to perfection- bacon, ground beef, tomatoes, onions, salsa, lettuce, cheese, and jalapeños. We also got the fried bosco sticks which were AMAZING! We got marinara and ranch sauce to dip them in. The wings were heavily breaded, which was my only complaint. It took a couple bites to even get to the chicken part of the wing. Had the steak special. Salad was fresh. Steak was seasoned perfectly and prepared expertly. The only drawback-and it was a minor one-the baked potato seemed to at the end of its heat lamp life. Service was good-didn't catch the waitress's name. We prefer the back room because we usually have a bigger party and the door kept being propped open for keg deliveries, so it was cold on a brisk day. Love this bar, been going for over 40 years, but last weekend had a terrible run-in with the manager, Marty. He was angry, rude, and impolite towards several of my friends. We were not causing any sort of trouble, and he was angry that someone in the bar had brought in small liquor shots...deciding without proof that it was someone in our area. He later called one of us a dickhead because we told him that it wasn't us. He said "I'm having a bad day." I tried to have a calm talk with him a few minutes later, and he said that "we should know our place." Sadly, I will not be returning to the Noodle. I will also be recanting this story to my friends, family, and anyone who asks about this establishment. I will be glad to patronize this bar again when the manager no longer works there. read more

One stop shop and it was amazing. Got to Indianapolis on a road trip pretty late and this came up as one of the most iconic bars in Indy. Well I wasn't disappointed in the food or the live band!! Pros: lots of food options and a variety. We had the Spinach Artichoke Dip which was topped with Buffalo chicken dip(like what!!!!), Deep fried Bosco Sticks, fish Sandwich and Jerk Chicken Sandwich. My sister and I went on a Thursday night and it took a while to get a table. Our server was friendly, but the service was very slow. The ambiance was relatively quiet, but a lot of noise on the street. We ordered the club sandwich and the Philly cheese steak sandwich. I can't even lie this is my go to spot when I want to get out and hear some decent live music, food, drinks and friends. You never know what kind of crowd you're going to encounter when you come in. Sometimes it's packed and other times you will feel like you're having a private concert. Either way you will love and enjoy yourself. My favorite foods to order are any of the quesadillas and the wings (mango habanero). The wings are a great consistency too. I find most places who waive their wings the outside ends up soggy but I've never experienced that here which is great. The staff is always very friendly and pretty attentive. No matter what time of day I have been; the staff is always on point. If you're looking for great service, good food and decent music.....stop in! read more

The Slippery Noodle Inn was on our groups radar the entire time we were in Indy. The oldest bar in Indiana, we walked by it several times on our other excursions, but stopped in after our beloved Eagles snuck out a nail biter against the Colts. The bar was packed with boisterous Eagles fans and the back dining area was full of diners and Eagles fans with an eye on the TV's checking out the 4:30pm NFL games. Unfortunately we had the perfect storm for a terrible wait time. Crazy busy bar, kitchen equipment issues, shortage of staff, the after game rush of the thirsty/hungry on top of their regular patrons. We eventually had a waitress come to us and take our orders. I shared a combo wing basket with a friend. $14.99 you get 11 wings with three types of sauce. We went with garlic, buffalo and bbq. They were a nice portion and had nice flavors. The buffalo chicken salad I ordered was a huge portion and a nice dinner meal for $13.49. My son went with the kids noodles and fries for $6.99. The fettuccine noodles were good according to him. Drink wise they had a few local IPA's on tap including their house Dis-Is-It IPA by Metazoa served in plastic cups. We relaxed, hung out with a couple of rounds and chatted about football. In the end we decided a victory lap around the downtown area was in the cards on our final night in Indy. This place has a lot of history and was family friendly. No food that I knew of, but plenty of good drinks from awesome bartenders! Definitely a party atmosphere even though the team lost. Met some cool people that's for sure! Look on their website to check out their daily 9.99 lunch special. Went a month or so ago and got the meatball sub, went yesterday and got the chicken cordon Bleu wrap. Both were great! Loved the bread and sauce for the sub. Chicken cordon Bleu wrap was fresh and flavorful. They come with a side a drink. The chicken chili I got with the wrap was really good.
