Carrot walnut cake + Tahitian Vanilla Latte x2. Oddly an alarm went off with blinking lights and a verbal warning to vacate the building. We bypassed the folks looking around unsure, and GTFO. Good stuff!!
I wouldn't recommend iced drinks here. My drink, which was supposed to be an iced latte, was served to me warm because I am guessing they poured the hot drink directly on top of very little ice. They also omitted my sweetener, which I did go back and ask them to fix, which they happily did. Pretty expensive for a12 oz drink, but if it was delicious I wouldn't hesitate to go back. Slipstream is a miss for me.
Our coffee was very good, although it took longer than expected to be prepared. There wasn't much seating, but the inside was colorful and cute.
Cute spot just off Logan circle! Service is friendly and they take their coffee seriously - the Madagascar vanilla latte was delish as was the turkey club. There's lots of seating to work, but beware that the upstairs gets pretty warm in the summer months
We stopped in here to grab something after lunch. There's a lot of seating in here with two floors, everything came out quickly, and everyone working was nice. The drinks, on the other hand, were just fine. I ordered their seasonal latte, which was a strawberry matcha. Maybe it's on me for ordering matcha at a coffee shop, but this tasted like a cup of sweet milk. No strong matcha or strawberry flavor.
Came in for a late afternoon coffee and ordered a Tahitian Vanilla Latte ($6) and Thoughtful Mocha($6) through the iPad. It was not busy at all, but it took over 10 minutes for the drinks to come out. Seems like most of the employee are on their phone and only take digital orders. Drinks were not that good, not sure how to describe it besides being very off. Disappointed that it did not taste good since it was in a very nice area. Drink: 5.0 Staff/service: 3.0 Value: 6.0 Overall: 4.8/10
This was close to my hotel, so I had to try (especially since the hotel coffee was subpar). Slipstream's coffee though, is fantastic. Service was friendly and fast, plus super easy ordering. Got their lemon cookie and lox toast. The flavour was great, not too sweet and a perfect texture. The lox toast was an interesting take on lox bagel, not my favourite, but still tasty.
Solid coffee shop with good seating options, kind staff, easy ordering, and excellent coffee. I came in on a Saturday afternoon with a friend, and while it was crowded we were still able to grab a table up front by the window. It wasn't too loud, as some people were working, but it also wasn't too quiet and most people were able socializing amongst themselves. We placed our order using a QR code, but unfortunately our table didn't have one so we had to use a neighbors (which is okay minus the fact that they will bring your order to that table). My issue with the code was I scanned it for our table and somehow it opened for another location and I accidentally placed my order there? So confusing since it was supposed to be linked to the table. Nonetheless, pay attention and you should be fine! I enjoyed my breakfast sandwich and coffee and can't wait to return and try some pastries. Plus I heard a VA location is coming which is perfect for those of us in NOVA!
A good cup of coffee, and it's open relatively early. The thoughtful mocha was just what I needed to wake me up from a late train in the night before. The miso was very prominent and provided an umami contrast to the sweet chocolate. Got it hot even though it was a warm morning, so it wasn't watered down by the ice. Wasn't burning hot. Would say a good temperature. Nice that there are individual ordering stations in the store, and you can order ahead online as well.
I am pretty obsessed with their magic Matcha because it's a mix of basil and Matcha and it honestly was a very good combination. The food was fine. I feel like the rice was a bit hard for some reason and the chicken was dry. The portion sizes were good if you got the bowl. Would definitely come back for their Magic Matcha. Service was fast and there are a couple of booths for sit and work as well as a couple of tables outside the front but inside the building to eat.
How to you work in a neighborhood for years and fail to uncover a gem literally right under your nose? I don't have the answer, but it's happened with Slipsteam. I e walked past this little storefront almost every day - and it wasn't until a coworker mentioned it that I woke from my oblivion and ventured in. Slipstream is quite simply wonderful. While it doesn't have the most extensive menu, what they do offer is wonderful. In two days I tried a breakfast sandwich, smoked salmon toast, a Behan lemon poppyseed scone, and two different types of coffee. Not a single tho g wrong with any of them. I even went back for a second smoked salmon toast - well, just because. If your ever in the Thomas Circle area, walk up 14th and look for the high top table on the sidewalk. Don't walk past. Walk in
Quiet cozy atmosphere. Did my first cupping session here. Intimate as it was informational. The barista is truly a connoisseur who was happy and excited to share all her knowledge on the beauty, skill, and hard work involved in farm to cup. Flavor wheels and grading sheets were provided as we sampled each bean; guiding us to understand and make conscious associations between palette and coffee characteristics.
This cafe has such welcoming atmosphere with rather jazzy modern interior. very quiet. On a gloomy day, it was a good way to start the day with positive energy given by this cafe. I had sweater weather latte that seemed to be their signature drink which has interesting flavor with a little citrus touch. The waiter brought us complementary cookies for the day.

Came here for a quick breakfast and sat at the bar. Service was okay, the place was pretty busy on a Saturday around noon. For food: - Slipstream breakfast sandwich: I ordered this and subbed sausage and have to say it was one of the best I've had in a while! The homemade English muffin was almost like a pancake and was super fluffy and delicious. I also love spicy and was a huge fan of the habanero jam. - chai tea latte: I was pretty disappointed in this one, the latte was super watered down and tasted like they poured hot tea over ice and added a some milk. There wasn't much taste and definitely would not order this item again. read more

I have been meaning to go to Slipstream for the longest. It took the pandemic and having to drive into the city to our apartment because of renovations to finally get it on it! I can only speak to post-pandemic slipstream, but we were able to conveniently order coffee, tea, some spiked coffees, and breakfast and pick it up on our way in several times. The coffee (Tahitian vanilla latte) and tea (song red tea) were on point and the breakfast sandwiches and bowls were scrumptious. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and the habanero jam was a perfect touch. The bowl was really tasty, but I do wish it had just a little more, I still felt hungry afterwards! Oh yea, I almost forgot I ordered by husband the gluten-free blueberry muffin which I had a fair share of and it was really filling. As for the spiked coffee, I don't see it on the menu now but it was essentially a coffee old-fashioned and it was a nice treat after a day of packing. read more

My friend and I walked by this place and I was craving coffee so we stopped in. They had a specialty latte "pandan" so I wanted to give it a try. Iced. My friend ordered a mocha latte. Iced. I had high hopes but unfortunately it was not met. Each latte cost $6+ and was in a shorter cup than expected. I tasted no pandan. I basically had a cup of milk. There was too much milk so I couldn't really taste the coffee. My friend's mocha was "okay." He said it wasn't worth it. The place has a nice vibe and would be nice to work remotely there assuming there is WiFi. Too bad the latte wasn't great, maybe the coffee is better but at the price point, I'd rather go elsewhere. read more
Even years later, Slipstream continues to be one of my favorite spots in the city! A few new noteworthy additions to the menu: + Dark Chocolate Mocha Lattes - I'm a tea drinker through and through but the allure of dark chocolate pulled me in and I was not led astray. + Oat Milk - Every hipster coffee shops new favorite choice milk and I'm a fan -- it's nourishing and naturally sweet plus it's great for breast milk production too! It's a bit pricey for an alternative choice milk (especially because it costs less than coconut or almond milk) but ah that is life. + Porchetta Sandwich - Hot roasted pork dressed in bitter greens and snuggled into a melted cheese blanket. Life does not get any better than this. read more

Initially drawn in by the coffee cocktails, I first stopped by Slipstream after a strenuous morning run on the National Mall and decided that maybe hard liquor wouldn't be such a good idea at 9 a.m. after being thoroughly dehydrated by quintessential D.C. humid weather. Make no mistake, Slipstream is definitely one of those hipster restaurants with rustic-slash-industrial decor and $6.50 artisanal avocado toast. But I was pleased to see a few affordable breakfast options, which sets Slipstream apart from other trendy restaurants in the area. I had their renowned breakfast bowl with a poached egg over rice, mixed greens, and radishes. The egg was beautifully runny and mixed well with the flavorful rice, making for a healthy, yet tasty breakfast. Knowing that the dish would be a little sparse (alas, you get what you pay for, and the breakfast bowl was only $7.50), I paid an extra $3 for bacon, which was definitely not worth it for pretty average tasting bacon. Although I am admittedly a little biased as someone who no longer eats red meat, I'd recommend avocado as an add-on -- it's cheaper and more filling. For a place known for its coffee cocktails, I was disappointed that my pourover coffee tasted kind of burnt and the fact that it was served in a hip beaker with purposeless twine wrapped around the neck didn't quite make up for it. Swung by here as referred by the DC eater magazine. Fantastic espresso tonic (good balance of floral and bitter). Chicken was perfectly seasoned and dressed. Amazing sunny space. Will definitely be back for more teleworking. read more

Neat little spot! Met up a friend for bfast and we all enjoyed our meals! We each ordered the breakfast bowl, chai, drip coffee and the ham and egg sandwich(on a brioche bun!)and a vanilla scone. The breakfast bowl was quite tasty with the sausage and seasoned potatoes and poached egg on the top. Im not big on scones but this one took the cake! Will def recommend this spot! read more
Ive heard good things about this coffee shop for a while now. I ordered an iced coffee (a bit small) and a beet salad. I didn't want the goat cheese and it upsets my stomach and they said they'd give me more avocado no extra charge which I was v happy about bc avocados are amazing and I'm always pretty hungry after eating salads. The workers were so nice and friendly too. -1 Star bc it's a bit dark which makes me very sleepy while working. Great place overall to work read more

I stepped into Slipstream to grab some coffee as I was waiting for my jacket to be pressed next door. I had an important interview that morning and really needed to get some space and peace before heading out. Slipstream was conveniently located (centralized), and the breakfast I ordered was out in a reasonable amount of time. The service was okay, and the food was decent. I ordered a creme brulee style fruit dish and a hazelnut latte. The latte was delicious, but the dish was lacking a bit. I expected more fruit as it was described to me as a fruit based dish. It just seemed to be a bit heavy with the parfait style consistency. Overall, between the coffee and service, I'd come back to give it another shot. I'd definitely order a few more things off the menu to give them a fair shot. See you later, Slipstream. read more
Sweater weather - 4 stars Espresso, orange zest, spices, tahini and oat milk. Delicious! Had the richness of chocolate, probably from the tahini. Blueberry muffin - 3.75 stars Would've been 4 stars if it had been a tad less sweet. Moist and delicious though! Chai latte with oat milk - 3.5 stars The spices were rather mild. If I (Chanel) am being honest, I was looking forward to having another neighborhood coffee shop in walking distance, but was a little underwhelmed by the coffee. Perhaps it was because I was so excited to try their #coquito latte, but sadly, the flavor was really lacking. However, bae really enjoyed his chai latte, and I wish I would have gotten one of those and tried one of their cookies or cafe items too. read more

We stopped by this cute little place on our way to sightsee. The sandwich was delicious; the habanero jam was just the right amount of spicy! Service was great. The espresso tonic drink was good but I'd add honey next time! read more

Great coffee and avocado toast! The ambiance is very chill and cozy. One half is more of a food area where people are conversing, while the other half of the building is a bit more quiet for studying and doing work. However, they do not have free WiFi on the weekends, so it's kind of a downer to use hotspots. read more

My partner and I were trying to find a breakfast place in town while visiting. Their menu has wonderful sandwiches and little Pastry options. We ordered two cafe mochas as well with our sandwiches. The harissa spicy chicken was delicious and I would go back for that again. The bodega egg sandwich hit the spot and was a perfect start. read more
Slipstream proves to be a challenging rating for me. I've not had the best service nor loved everything I've had, and as obsessed as I am with their breakfast bowl, my experiences do not warrant 4 stars. The pink Madagascar rice with shaved asparagus, radish, and pork belly is fantastic, especially for those who do not like traditional American breakfasts (you can get it sans egg). Though I added some salt and pepper, it's filling and the pork belly is perfectly cooked. The only non-dairy milk offered is their house-made almond-cashew version, which I was excited about, except it just does not pair well with their lattes. It creates a slightly sour latte, and I've only been offered Demerara as a sweetener, which I don't like. I'm not a fan of the breakfast sandwich with mustard-seed cheese and pork belly, as I found it bland and did not like the cheese. I only ate the pork belly, because as I've found in my rice bowls, it's delicious. I've not had really friendly or explanatory service, except from one man. The rest of the staff act like they cannot be bothered and are not helpful in any way. While I like the chill vibe and awesome space, I think I'll stick to grabbing a breakfast bowl and being on my way. read more

My first visit here with 3 of my friends. Ambiance is nice and very accommodating inside. Decent service and coffee/latte drinks are alright. Seating is a little limited, but OK. Pretty modern looking and inviting. We ordered Chai Latte and a Cappuccino. Not too bad, so I think I'll go back again to try some food and other drinks next time. read more

I looove love love the pandan Shakerato. Too bad it's a seasonal drink so I'd have to wait for the warmer months before I can get it again. My husband likes one of the coffee roasts from here called Madcap from Grand Rapids, MI. I have mixed feelings about Slipstream but I'm going to keep this review short because I really just wanted to drop a review saying how much I love the Pandan Shakerato. Check out my review at the Navy Yard location. I hardly go to the 14th St location bc of limited parking. I'd only come by here if I were already walking in the area. I'd specifically pop in for that pandan shakerato. Otherwise, I'll entertain the other drinks. It's better than Peregrine. But don't hear it from me. Try for yourself. Lovely atmosphere, strong coffee, and the most delicious hand pies you can get; easily on par with the pop-tarts from Ted's Bulletin. Strongly recommend the rhubarb & lemon hand pie, just the right amount of sweet & tangy. A must-go if you're in Logan Circle. read more
After visiting the Baked Joint the previous weekend, I became semi obsessed with visiting cafes in the area. I'd walked by slipstream dozens of times prior while heading to Wholefoods for grocery. I knew how popular it could get especially on weekends so we were mentally prepared. Surprisingly we arrived just as another couple was leaving. We were seated in the best seats of the house - back table for two in the sun room with no wait at all! My husband and I weren't particularly hungry - he went with the sweet potato chili plus poached egg with coffee soda while I opted for their avocado goat mousse toast with large house coffee. Foods were served almost instantly. I love anything and everything with avocado - so I, of course, enjoyed my toast. However it was definitely something I could have whipped together at home. My husband missed the meat in his chili. It was on the blander side - could definitely use some extra heat and salt. In addition, his coffee soda was disappointing since there was zero coffee flavor. He wished he opted for his initial tea choice. My house coffee was good but not as good as the Baked Joint's. Large here was equivalent to two 8 oz cups (they serve them one at a time). Overall - very pricey for DC standard. It might be even more expensive than most cafes in NYC. Foods was good but nothing to write home about other than the price point (standard chili with egg was $14). Onto our next search for cute cafes in the area. read more
This is a trendy coffee shop that also has a small and pricey breakfast menu. I kept seeing posts of their avocado toast with goat cheese and HAD to try it. Wanting protein, I added smoked salmon and the poached egg to it making it the smallest $15 avocado toast on the planet. It also wasn't properly toasted and the actual bread part was cold and kinda soggy...seriously a let down. My husband's breakfast sandwich was tasty but the eggs seemed microwaved. I did like the habanero jam that came on it tho- the perfect amount of sweet and spicy, but for $8 for a breakfast sandwich not sure it's worth it. I did like their cold brew but their only milk alternative is oat milk, which is not my fave. The decor is modern and we had no trouble finding seating.
