On the basis of croissants, this one is quite buttery. It is both crunchy and flakey, something I look for in each assessment. The bread itself is light and soft. As far as fast food cafes go I would get this croissant again. Came in hardly under 5 dollars. That is unfortunately uncommon the woman at the counter asked me how I was doing, and I did the same. Loved this place especially as someone wanting to eat gluten-free and vegan together! I got a delicious oatmilk latte, almond oatmeal (comes with steamed plant-milk), and a cold-pressed juice which was surprisingly good and earthy. The oatmeal was a little plain but it's a good healthy meal while on the go. It's also pricey but expected as it's so central in the city. This is a nice bluestone location downtown to grab coffee and a quick bite. I tried the latte, and the sunshine burrito which was a healthy breakfast burrito and also filling enough for a breakfast or brunch order. I remember being so excited for this location to open. Now years later, I'm glad it's still around! The decor and location are great and I love a great golden latte! When they were super new, I would go during the morning rush. They handled the volume mostly well, though there was a wait. Fast forward to now, I go whenever I'd like a nice beverage break. Ordering and paying is now by kiosk but you can still make selections (i.e. Milk choice). On my most recent visit, it wasn't busy and was a fairly efficient experience. I wanted to like this Bluestone Lane location as it would be a great place to grab a coffee and have a casual meeting, but the service means it's just not an option. The employee behind the counter ignored me as I waited by the register for her to look and address me so I could order; I had to vocally ask her if she could help me. An eyeroll later, she grudgingly took my order. When I asked her if she could add one pump of caramel to my cold bew, she said, "We don't have that" without offering a possible substitute. I had to suggest, "how about simple syrup?" After making my order, she handed it to me while looking away and unsurprisingly did not respond as I thanked her. I met a friend for coffee here recently. I like the ambiance - it's clean and modern and relaxed. I ordered an iced latte. I don't know if their default is oat milk or if they misunderstood me, but I meant to get just a regular milk latte. But they looked overwhelmed, so I didn't ask to get another one. On that note, the service was not great - they had 4 or 5 baristas working, but it wasn't all that busy, yet they were struggling to get the orders out. I really appreciate the convenience of this Bluestone Lane to the Metro Center station. The drinks are fairly consistent in quality, and the location is clean and brightly lit. However, the drinks are incredibly expensive. My go to chai with oat milk is over 7 dollars after tax, and a large size is only 16 oz (a medium is 12). Additionally, I have had to consistently wait 15-20 minutes for my beverage, although there are only a few other people in cue. I think they are quite understaffed, but waiting that long for one latte is a little extreme, especially because their entire ordering system is electronic and no one has to man the register. I hope this location improves their efficiency, because I do like coming here and could better justify the cost if the customer service was a bit better. read more

I'm usually a huge fan of Bluestone Lane across the board...this trip in we asked for a drip and a matcha latte with oat milk and zero cross contamination with dairy, as my partner is deathly allergic. We've never had an issue prior, the employee confirmed no dairy & no cross contamination, but it was clear after the first sip that there was dairy as she was instantly sick. I requested to look at the ingredients in the matcha and the employee gave me a clear oxo Tupperware and said "there is no ingredients and I didn't use whole milk." No care from the employee and terrible customer service across the board, I had to ask for a refund, which the employee didn't know how to do & was on the phone attempting to get help and returned the wrong order for another customer...Very disappointed read more

Came here for a quick pick me up with a few others. Me and another guy got matcha. I asked for mine with oat milk, since it automatically comes with almond milk. I also asked for a shot of espresso added to it. How much was it? I wouldn't know since I didn't pay for it. The matcha was already $5 without all the substitutions and additions I made to it. It was good though! I never know if the matcha will be sweetened or not at a coffee shop, but it's unsweetened here. I like it either way. The espresso was a little lighter than I expected but still did the job. Another staff member got English breakfast tea which he enjoyed. The space is small. It's got lots of natural light, a light green palette, and some fake plants. It's cute and honestly has a calming vibe. It seems like a place people go during the day to take a break. The menu is pretty limited. Not a lot of choices, but sometimes simple is better. The staff was nice! They made the drinks pretty quickly too. Not a big fan of the supbar bland avocado toast, stiff uncomfortable seats, or incompetent service. Watered down coffee shop. With so many great coffee shops in the area, I wouldn't waste your money here. The heavy dose of cracked pepper overpowered the mashed avocado, just a small pinch would have done the trick! On the other hand, the toast could have used a bit more salt. The flavors weren't balanced and certainly not worth $8. My hubby's Salmon toast didn't fair much better. To add insult to injury, the cashier forgot to ask if I wanted the toast for here or go to, and assumed I wanted it to go. After receiving the toast in a carry-out box, another server gave me a platter and I had to transfer the toast myself, which was quite messy. I ordered Peppermint Tea and the cashier asked if I wanted 2 tea bags, I was about to say yes, when I inquired if there was an upcharge - of course there was! It's $4.25 for just 1 teabag and $1 more for another bag. Why didn't she tell me ahead of time?! The incompetent service really left me with a sour taste. Best part? The fruity cold-pressed Port Sea juice with cucumber, apple, gingeroot, kale, lemon, and spinach was refreshing and earned the $7 price tag. The stiff miniature metal seats are very uncomfortable. While I don't expect plush cushiony seating at a coffee shop in Penn Quarter, this was hands-down the worst seating in DC, even beats high tops and bar stools. After paying $35 for a subpar meal, I've crossed Bluestone off my list - one and done. Won't bother returning to try the coffee! I left after waiting 20 minutes for a flat white and food as multiple customers who arrived after me were served before me. I spoke to the barista who said he was on it and then continued on the same course. Presumably this was how the system cued his drink preparation. my impression was that he literally could not respond to my issue. I left twenty dollars poorer with no breakfast.
