We never tried German pancakes before, so we were super excited for it. We ordered a few items to bring back to our hotel. German pancakes: It wasn't as pretty as the photos we saw on yelp, where people dined in for it. My pancakes were pretty soft, but soggy, but I'm not really sure what the normal texture was supposed to be. I loved the butter, powdered sugar, and lemons on it. The pancake was pretty pricey, but rather large. I would love to try this dish in person again in the future, 4.5/5. Buttermilk pancakes: The pancakes were super fluffy! The buttermilk flavor wasn't too strong, but I enjoyed these pancakes. It was a decent size too, 5.5. Eggs Benedict: The eggs were perfectly poached, but the flavor of the hollandaise was a bit weird for me. It wasn't what I'm used to, when I normally order this dish elsewhere. Hashbrowns were also soggy when we ate. Nevertheless, it was fine, 3.5/5. Apple glazed french toast: This dish was really sweet. The apples were soft, and the cream cheese was yummy, but this dish was just too sweet for me. We ordered this to-go and the corn flakes on top were soggy when we ate this. I love baby back ribs and barbecue, so I was very excited about the reopening of Jackalope Ranch. We went and I had baby back ribs that were OK, cowboy beans that had no flavor whatsoever and Dijon coleslaw that was dry. So we went to Sloans yesterday and to my surprise on Wednesdays, after 3, they have baby back ribs for $16.99. I was a little bit leery, but I ordered them. Unbelievably fall off the bone delicious. They were smoked then finished off on the grill. I got them without sauce but the barbecue sauce on the side was very tasty as well. The beans were spot on with a hot creamy baked potato. Sorry, but Sloan's was not the way to end a nice stay in Joshua Tree / Palm Springs. As soon as we walked in, we were met with a dozen pairs of eyes -- no masks in sight -- in a small, cramped bar. We were told to walk on into the main dining room. Apparently, it was game night or something? Yikes. We snagged a table in the corner, just trying to get away from everyone. It's indoor seating, which we were not happy with. We were certainly hungry, though. The food, itself, was rather bland. We didn't finish and took leftovers home -- didn't end up finishing that. There was chicken in it, lots of cheese, vegetables and all the other goodies. They give you 2 sides, so I had the biscuit (yummy) and the home-made fries or potatoes... so delicious. It was so good and it is a large portion; I could not finish it. I was impressed with their food, that I went back the following day for Dinner. Like most, I miss eating out. It's not easy to find a safe place to dine in that serves good food. This is the first time in over three months since I sat in to eat somewhere instead of taking it to go. But yeah...I'm in Palm Desert eating at a place in Indio. Tables are spaced far apart and occupancy is at a minimum. Everyone providing service all wear masks and patrons are asked to wear their mask to and from their tables. No actual menus are provided. Instead, there's a piece of paper on the table with a barcode that you are supposed to scan with your phone to bring up the menu. Kind of neat. The breakfast/lunch menu looks terrific. Lots of familiar favorites like buttermilk pancakes, chicken and waffles, huevos rancheros, crepes, burgers, benedicts, Belgian waffles, salads and sandwiches. Everything looks tasty. I ordered my go to breakfast dish...the Old Fashioned Corned Beef Hash with two eggs over hard and two buttermilk pancakes. No surprises here. Everything was delicious! The corned beef was slightly crispy and tasty without being too salty. The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy and actually pretty good before putting on any butter. I loved it all. More like a 3.5 for this place... I was expecting more I guess based on reviews but nothing extraordinary. It was packed on a Sunday around noon. Waited about 20 minutes for 2 and a toddler. The host was not having the best day I think and the service was ok considering it was full. So the French toast was flavorless, had to add tons of syrup and jam to get something out of it, and the scramble was good but nothing out of this world. We also had menudo and I think it was the best of all 3 but again, I've had better. The food came out pretty fast I'll give them that but the coffee was not good, I couldn't drink it. Changing my toddler in the bathroom was a challenge since it was pretty tight but at least they have a changing station I guess. Overall I would stop again to try something else maybe if in the area, but I wouldn't be excited about it. read more

Sloan's has an amazing variety of food, and their portions are quite generous. We live in Los Angeles and have been to Sloan's several times we have been to Indio. The drinks (esp the bloody Mary!) are well-priced and strong (at least from what we've ordered). The service can be spotty (esp. now that restaurants are having such difficulty finding staff!) But just plan to be there a while, and spend the time waiting on the waiter/waitress while sipping on one of their strong drinks! read more

I have been going to Sloans many years and will not stop. The service and food above average. This is just a suggestion s I usually order the Patty Melt. This last time they may have had a new cook, so if the cook would make the sandwich the way it was made since I've been eating there, it sure would be appreciated. The onions grilled instead of nearly raw, meat cooked as customer ordered not cooked to death, and rye bread grilled not toasted. The bacon and cheese was great. Thanks so much. I have to say this was quite an interesting experience. When we first walked in it was like we walked in to a Midwest pancake house. The hostess barely greeted us and was hardly helpful. The restaurant was really crowded for a Sunday after church environment. We sat at a table and then realized there wasn't alcohol in the regular restaurant. We discover a back lounge!!!! We moved back there, service was awesome! I had the club sandwich that was big enough for 3 people. My sister had the burger, not much to say. So we were in Indio passing through and my partner and I are all about trying new spots we've never been, especially places that look like old diners. We looked this place up on yelp and saw that it had good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. Apparently it used to be an old Elmers. When we walked in, it looks as if it has been untouched since the late 70s or early 80s inside but don't let that fool you. The food here was absolutely amazing and the service was just as good. We live in Palm Springs, but will definitely make the 25 minute drive to Indio to eat here again.
