UPDATE 6/1/10: The owner, Mario, just left me a very intimidating voicemail about my 1 star review, calling it "bullshit," that he took care of me in a "great way," and demanded that I "fix" my review right away. I'm not sure what kind of owner/manager handles customer dissatisfaction in this way, but it is completely unprofessional. There was no apology whatsoever for the missed inspections. He also said that if I didn't understand the invoice, that it's not his mechanic's job to explain what was done to my car. Actually, it is my expectation that whoever checks me out is able to explain the invoice to me. It was not clearly communicated what exactly was done, nor what exactly I need to bring my car back for at 80k as he had advised to split the service. Since this is a big service, the owner Mario advised to do the timing belt change first, and take care of minor things like oil change that can wait till 80k to split up the cost. I thought great, and left my car there for 2 days. When I picked up my car, Mario wasn't there, so one of the mechanics checked me out. I asked him what they did to my car to confirm what I need to take care of when I bring my car back to complete the rest of the service at 80k as he had advised. The mechanic looked at me baffled that I even asked and could not clearly communicate what was done nor what I need to do when I brought it back at 80k. After I picked up my car, I notice that the steering started to vibrate whenever I'd accelerate or make a turn. I came back a few weeks later, left the car there for an entire day to have it checked out and the owner told me I needed to spend at least $700 to replace my power steering pump. Later that week, my friend noticed that my two front tires were low on air and that my tread looked quite worn. I immediately pumped air in my tires, and no more vibration. Simple tire check missed, and I left my car there for a total of 3 days up to this point. Before even making it to bring my car back for 80k service, my right front tire blows out while I'm driving on the freeway. Apparently, my tires were so worn down that my tread was starting to split apart for both my front tires according to an independent auto shop I brought it to. The manager there found that my brakes were completely worn down to the metal and even showed me the brake pads (see pics above). I was horrified. He told me that brake pads take a long time to wear down, which means this was another missed critical safety inspection. Having brought my car to European Auto Repair for 75k service, I am extremely disappointed that they missed the tire and brake check, which is not something that can wait until 80k. I was only fine with deferring the oil change, as I had recently taken care of that. He also recommended to spend another $700 on a brand new power steering pump I did not need. To make matters worse, the owner's nonexistent customer service skills in handling dissatisfied customers in which he cursed at me and demanded that I take down my 1 star review for my truthful, honest opinion of poor service that affects my SAFETY is not how you deal with unsatisfied customers. Since the voicemail incident, he's also called threatening to sue, so heaven forbid you actually have a bad experience here and write about it! If you don't believe me, see the other 1 star review here that also mentions missed inspections, where Alex H. also had to pay an additional $100 to have his problem fixed by the dealer on top of the $600 he already paid here. I am not the only one that's had similar complaints here. This auto repair shop can perform very complex services on Mercedes Benz cars. At the same time, the prices here are very reasonable. Mario and Ivo were able to perform several services on my cars which all other shops even refused to quote. For example, about two years ago they replaced the brushes on my Mercedes Benz SUVs ABS pump for a very reasonable price instead of replacing the entire ABS pump which is normally quoted around $2500 - all ABS still works great. All repairs on my Mercedes Benz SUV and C-class were done very well and everything that was repaired here works fine. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. These guys are the best. Like a trained surgeon working on their patient (my car) they have never let me down. They always have figured out any problem my Mercedes or BMW has had. Very honest, never a worry about being over charged.. Actually of all my friends I have referred over the last 3 years some as far as San Francisco all have said their prices and quality of service have been the best. I deal with Mario when i can but all the crew there has been very professional and helpful. My wife is shopping for a slightly used Porsche and with their special new car check out service I always use before buying a used car I know we will never get stuck buying someone else's problem. I have been to many of the other so called experts and dealer shops but they do not compare these guys expertise and very fair prices. Good honest guys like these are hard to find. Avoid these guys if at all possible... They robbed me of at least $250, in made-up charges, leaving me with a vehicle that did not even start. Here is my story... My wife and I came to the shop with a relatively low-mileage (below 60 K) 1991 Volvo 740 Wagon that had difficulties starting. We left the car in the shop for analysis and an estimate. A young guy named Mario assured us that he could fix the car. He called me at work the next day saying that the problem was the ignition key and he needed to take off the dashboard, a $250 operation required to replace the respective electro-mechanical assembly... With no other option available, I approved the work and came to see the car shortly afterwards. Another guy was already working on it and I surprised him replacing the gas relay somewhere around the glove compartment: "We are replacing this for you free of charge". On that occasion I noticed an old ignition key assembly planted down on the floor, as a proof of replacement... It turned out that their cheating scheme was a classical one: charge for the most expensive scenario (taking off the dashboard, in this case) and fix the problem by a known, inexpensive solution (replacing the gas relay). Unfortunately for Mario and his helper, their assumption concerning the solution was wrong in my particular case: the vehicle remained with the same symptom and I ended up stuck with it in front of my house. The situation was unacceptable: I had paid as much as they had asked and was left with a vehicle that did not start at all! Mario realized the gravity of the situation and sent his helper to my residence to try to fix the car. Unfortunately, the helper turned out to be unqualified for the job and left me again with a car that did not start. I realized there was nothing that they could do and I quit asking for help. After all, it had been my mistake that I had paid before checking the car! So, still needing the car, I started examining the under-the-hood space. There, I noticed two identical relays, installed side-by-side, somewhere around the right fender. One of them was identified in vehicle's service manual as the "radio relay" and the other one doing some other function, like turning on the fan in front of the engine. The relays being identical, there was no risk to swap them. So, I did swap them and the engine started on the fist quarter turn of the key! Then I went to thew Volvo dealership, replaced the bad relay and got the car in the nominal shape, never failing to start again. I later confirmed my solution by reading on the Internet about the "radio relay" - indeed, it somehow controls the engine starting process, despite the improper name. So, Mario, please learn now from me, an old man whom you cheated: it was the radio relay, not the gas relay, nor the key assembly causing the trouble! You can try this next time, or the gas relay (whichever works), preferably without charging the replacement of the ignition key assembly. Also, thank you very much for not taking off the dashboard: that would have produced even more irritation! Coming back to my fellows Volvo owners: please avoid these people. They are not only unfair to their customers, they are also incompetent, at least as far as the Volvo 740 Wagon vehicles are concerned. On the good side (for the one star given), I acknowledge the correct installation of a new battery and distributor cap that I provided. read more

Our '08 VW Eos was due for it's 50,000 mile scheduled maintenance and the DSG transmission service. I'm a stickler for maintaining the car in a proper and timely manner. Because of this, I've typically taken the car in to the dealership for all maintenance (VW of Sunnyvale) and honestly, never really had much of an issue with their service department. However, this time around, I decided to ask around for prices, primarily because the DSG transmission service can vary from pricey to 'how much will you pay for one of my kidneys?'...and the dealer quotes for the DSG+50k was closer to the the latter. Luckily, there seem to be at least 3 well reviewed independent Euro service shops around me and they all seemed pretty comparable. But I followed my gut and went with EAR and can say that I didn't end up regretting it. Apart from being very competitively priced (I looked up online, the cost of each part number on the invoice, and it's pretty much bang on), I liked the fact that Mario (the owner?) himself is a car enthusiast and knows what he and his technicians are doing. The only reason I didn't give a 5 was because the shop is located in a not-so-obvious location that can be a little tricky to find and Mario can take a little long to respond to calls and/or emails. But yea, based on my experience, I'll definitely be coming to EAR for our future Eos (and possibly the S4) service needs. read more

A shock replacement could be very expensive on this vehicle. I was able to buy the shock for Mr. Igor to install and saved a ton of money. Mario and Team are fabulous! I went to BMW and had a diagnostic check on my BMW 750 LI I bought about 2.5 weeks ago and BAM!... they gave me a laundry list of items that they said "needed" to be done for the bargain bottom price of....wait for it... $22,500..seriously!!! So, I of course requested for bids online from shops and was pleasantly surprised when I got back an email from Mario on the weekend (as they are closed on weekends). I gave him my laundry list info. and Mario knew that just seemed crazy long and just too much...he let me know to bring in my car for a 2nd opinion, which I did...literally, I brought my car to his shop last Friday after corresponding a few days to drop the car off to be checked. Mario then called me to give the rundown of the findings.....and to my pleasant surprise, the majority of what was on the laundry list from BMW was nothing neccessary at all, which was fabulous! The major item was fixed that same afternoon and the car was ready to pick up that late afternoon. The best part...the cost for parts and labor was great, fabulous actually!!! Mario was so honest and down to earth, funny too :-) And, his Technician was very nice as well. I own a Benz C230 sport and I am always looking for a bargain when it comes to repairs and/or oil change. Since I am new to the San Jose area I figured I would get some help (and a discount) looking for a mechanic Seeing the number of reviews and the special coupon at the time I decided to give European Auto a try. And to my surprise, YES, they came through for me in more ways than one. When I called Mario he confirmed I could bring my car in the next day at 11:00 am. However, when I got there the lot was full so I parked on the street. When I went back to get my car my key froze. It stopped working (and that's another story I will not get into). Anyhow, Mario came out to help, trying everything he could to start my car, including putting a computer on the car. When that didn't work, "he drove me to Radio Shack to replace the batteries". Great guy! I could end there but it get's better... The car key was dead. Gone for good. So Mario drove me to the Benz dealer in San Jose where he assisted in getting next day delivery of the key and then he took me to Enterprise to get his standard rate for a rental. Honestly, I was a little surprised and somewhat guilty the guy was doing all this but grateful at the same time. Took our Audi Q7 to Mario and crew for the 35K service after reading the great reviews on Yelp and have to say I was not disappointed. The 35K service for the Q7 is nothing more than a glorified oil change yet the dealer still quoted me $450 which is borderline criminal. Mario and crew go the oil changed for $95 out the door which is a relative bargain. Keep in mind the shop is not close to any retail, so plan to drop the car off or go for a nice stroll to the Starbucks on El Camino which is what I did. I had been driving my Volvo S40 for about 6 months with a notification on my dashboard stating that it's time for a regular maintenance. Every time I started the engine I had to clear it by pressing a button and after a while it became annoying. I didn't want to go to Volvo because I knew I would be paying an arm and a leg but being OCD about things like that I decided it's time to get it fixed. A few months had passed by until I stumbled upon Mario who was able to fix my problem in a matter of seconds. I took my E320 for a check up and we found a couple issues with the car. Before they did anything they called me to explain my options and what could be done without spending too much. We repaired it and the car ran fine but two weeks later the check engine light came on so I though to veer on the safe side and I brought the car back. We checked it out and it looked like a leak from somewhere odd. It meant my car needed to stay overnight. I figured that I would have to wait for a friend for at least 3 hours to get off work to pick me up but Mario offered to drive me home before I even thought of asking. From there, I really understood how much they care about their customers getting their cars properly fixed without any hassle or problem. I brought my car in for an oil leak. They said no problem and I got the car back after $700.00 in repairs and 4 days later. The next day my check engine light comes on and the car goes back in for $400.00 in repair. I no sooner get my car home and the coolant is all over the drive way.So, i take it back in. They want over $1,000.00 to replace the thermostat and the water pump. I take it to a BMW repair in Cupertino and they replace the over flow tank for $175.00.I don't know if the repairs they did were needed. Very disappointed. read more
