The masala Mac was really yummy. Super flavorful and the cheese was great. Like the different sizes they have too. Service was pretty quick.

I don't know how many years I've been coming here but I don't care how far the drive is but it's worth it! The service is still the same, fast pace and great! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I wish the place was bigger though.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There is nothing to complain; The food is done to perfection, made your own way/ how you like it.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately I don't have many pictures of this little corner spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My kid and I decided to grab some mac n cheese after our long ass day in the city before heading home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place did not disappoint- it's really not the spot for sit down and dine in - if i had pictures you'd see why.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However the mac was bomb and a great serving size for the both of us. I added some grilled chicken to it for the sake of protein. You place your order at the kiosk and wait - food was out in less than 10 minutes. I definitely recommend this spot and i will be revisiting. Next time i will take some pics of inside.

Thank you for being allergy aware! Was able to eat here with multiple food allergies! The hot food and quick service hit the spot on a cold day.

I found this place because I literally searched for "Mac and cheese" as I was craving my favorite food! There's a similar concept in Houston, so I was thrilled to find a new Mac-and-cheese-devoted restaurant in my new city!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived, it was almost 3pm so the restaurant was pretty empty, although it actually started to pick up a bit by the time I left.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You order directly from a kiosk and you'll pick a table number so that they can bring it to you as soon as it's ready. I did a build-your-own option as I'm vegetarian and also wanted a specific flavor due to being a cheese snob. The Mac came out quick, piping hot and oh so fresh! It's served in its own little skillet, which helps keep it warm and is also just really cute. It was sooo delicious!! I combined gruyere with Munster cheese, added spinach and garlic then topped it with bread crumbs. Mmm mmm MMM! Also, they have a water dispenser near the entrance to the kitchen! I was happy that flavored sparkling water was sold here as I don't drink sodas, but I also snagged some free water while I was at it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Since summer is here, just know that they don't seem to have AC here! The restaurant was very open-concept. I chose to sit near a fan and the open "window" area in order to enjoy a breeze along with my meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I'm not the biggest mac and cheese fan but S'mac is a game-changer. The Masala did not hold back on the spices. So much flavor that adds depth to plain ol' mac and cheese. The Buffalo Chicken is packed with chicken pieces and plenty saucy. Honestly, a "nosh" was plenty enough for me since it is a very heavy and loaded mac and cheese. My boyfriend housed his "major munch" no problem (big appetite). [[HIGHLIGHT]]S'MAC is a super casual spot--they have little kiosks in the front to order and you grab a number and a table and wait for a fresh mac and cheese skillet that they serve you.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Self order spot. If you're craving a Mac n cheese day, this is your spot. They have lots of options to add on, garlic, mushrooms, broccoli.. everything! You can choose to add bread crumbs which I recommend. Happy I made a stop here while visiting.

Have known about this place for years, but never stopped by until recently - not bad! Good variety of menu options of Mac 'n' Cheese, very filling portions, and reasonable-ish prices. It's a relatively small, laid-back joint with just 1 chef and 1 other person running things - yet people get served promptly enough. You can serve yourself water from a tank, or you can order any number of soft drinks or beer as well. They have a touchscreen ordering system that's pretty straightforward, you're given a number and served within 5-10 minutes tops. If it's your first visit, definitely recommend the sampler platter - has easily enough food for one person or a solid amount to share for two, and you get to try all of their main varieties of Mac 'n' Cheese in one go. We felt that their American option (as classic as you can get) was actually their best item in the end - with a few contenders for second place (including the 4 Cheese and the "Cheeseburger" options). Everything is quite customizable no matter what you order - you can add more cheese, more breadcrumbs, more sauce and so forth for literally anything on the menu. Their smallest size for any one flavor, besides the sampler, is plenty for a single person - but you can scale up if you want to share with other people. Their largest "Party" size costs $69, kinda curious just how much tonnage of Mac 'n' Cheese we're talking about there. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun spot, would come back for sure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

So comforting, so good. Fair price for the portion size. You really can't go wrong with the flavors here. It could've been a tad bit spicier but that's just me.

Best spot for winter cravings and rainy day remedy! They have a substantial size menu- They have 3 sizes but honestly the smallest is alot(Nosh). The mac n cheese is super creamy and cheesy so even the small size is enough for 1 person serving. We got three flavors and shared. Best was their Chicken tikka! Loved mediterranean too-Alpine was just ok. Must try if you are a mac and cheese lover. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Its not high end dinning place so yeah seating is pretty casual but they have alot of tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Liked the casual vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will defo return!

Food looked delicious but was just okay.

My son and I came here to have dinner after work today (8/6/25) and it was disappointing. We decided to get the sampler. All the mac & cheese were okay but the cheeseburger mac was horrible. The ground beef in it tasted sour. I'm almost positive that it wasn't good. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. @Santa .... We were there at about 8pm.

Samantha C.

Oh S'mac, how I've missed you. You may look different from years passed but you still have that same classic, cheesy charm. The menu hasn't changed much over the years and since it's been a minute I got my favorite, the Mediterranean. Nosh size, of course. Didn't eat there, instead I housed it down on my train ride home. As I ate, I reminisced about my college and post college days and those late night Mac and cheese orders. It was just as good, if not better than way back when.

Do they sell any drinks?

Non alcoholic

For the sampler, can they make a Vegetarian sampler (no meat)?

Hi Erum - right now our sampler is a mix of veg and meat, we don’t offer a vegetarian version. Sorry!

Is indoor dining available?

Hi Veronica - we aren’t doing indoor dining as of yet. We have outdoor dining available with most tables protected by vinyl but there are not any heaters. Thanks!

Is the chicken halal?

No, macaroni cheese

How much is the sampler?

Hi Daniel. The sampler is 17. All of the prices are on their website. http://www.eatsmac.com/menu/ I should note, you get very generous, filling portions.

Can I order to-go? Or is it sit down only?

It's both options. You can order to go AND you can sit there and eat. If you look at their website, you'll see the style of dining area they have.

What is the vegan cheese sauce made of?

Hi Christian -- please click through below to the link on our website where it lists the ingredients for the Vegan. Best, Sarita…

Monkey Bar became one of my favorite Midtown restaurants because its modern history ran almost…read moreperfectly alongside my years in New York. I arrived in 2008 with very little, and when Graydon Carter revived the restaurant in 2009, I was beginning a rise of my own, first at a large global bank and then, to my astonishment, at one of the city's most powerful investment firms. The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a memorable room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. The cocktails were sharp, the service was impeccable, and the dining room carried that glamorous old New York energy without feeling trapped by it. I remain deeply fond of the place, partly for what it was and partly for what it witnessed. Some restaurants become attached to a chapter of your life, and Monkey Bar holds mine with unusual grace.

It featured a crispy, sugar-glazed exterior and a soft, chewy interior, topped with truffle cheese and served with a truffle butter dip; the pairing was superb, and it tasted great both on its own and with the dip. For the main course, I ordered the miso-glazed black cod. The flavor was flawless, and while the portion was small (which was acceptable), the pool of broth accompanying it was completely unnecessary; it was inedibly salty, so what was the point of serving it? After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

Did an earlier dinner on a Saturday with a friend at the bar. We got some similar items, some different. Food-wise, I stuck mainly to the classics with one new dish: - Pizza rolls: Very good but 3 pizza rolls for $20 felt small to me. I feel like I remember seeing others served more when I've gone in the past, but not completely sure. They're nostalgic and fun, nothing to die for. - Fries: Great as ever, we opted for just one of the sauces (avocado dill). - French Dip: This used to be cut in 3 pieces and now it's 2. Works well with a duo but I do think it's actually a little smaller now than before when I compare photos. - Samoa sundae: Still amazing, still so so worth. It was fun going with a friend who hadn't been before and seeing the joy upon trying the dish! The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor.
