The restaurant was quite empty when we visited, and I was a little confused about how to place our order. A staff member pointed us toward the self-checkout kiosk at the front of the restaurant, but I was also unsure how to pay with a credit card. Thankfully, he was very helpful and walked me through the process. I absolutely love the concept of offering small samplers of different mac and cheese flavors. The mac and cheese flights are such a fun idea and a great way to try a variety of flavors! Not every flavor was my favorite, but there were several that I really enjoyed.The fig mac and cheese was probably my least favorite. I didn't think the fig paired well with the dish. A friend suggested this spot, who loves the place. Came here for dinner. We ended up getting the Alpine and Buffalo Chicken in the Major Munch size. The Mac n cheese came hot and on a skillet. The cheese crust on top gave it a nice crunchy texture, very cheesy. The blue cheese on the buffalo chicken wasn't too strong tasting. I do want to mention, the Major Munch size can feed two people. I can confirm S'mac still has it going on. Really nothing much has changed. The interior takes me back to my college years, it's still orange hued and woodsy, but now there's self ordering kiosks! Choose your size and your flavor option. If you're feeling bold, create your own combination. And in a few minutes you'll be delivered crusty, cheesy, goodness. I ordered the alpine, which came with mushroom, rosemary and fig pieces and left satisfied. The figs added a nice sweetness. There's a similar concept in Houston, so I was thrilled to find a new Mac-and-cheese-devoted restaurant in my new city!! You order directly from a kiosk and you'll pick a table number so that they can bring it to you as soon as it's ready. I did a build-your-own option as I'm vegetarian and also wanted a specific flavor due to being a cheese snob. The Mac came out quick, piping hot and oh so fresh! It's served in its own little skillet, which helps keep it warm and is also just really cute. It was sooo delicious!! I combined gruyere with Munster cheese, added spinach and garlic then topped it with bread crumbs. Mmm mmm MMM! Also, they have a water dispenser near the entrance to the kitchen! I was happy that flavored sparkling water was sold here as I don't drink sodas, but I also snagged some free water while I was at it. Have known about this place for years, but never stopped by until recently - not bad! Good variety of menu options of Mac 'n' Cheese, very filling portions, and reasonable-ish prices. It's a relatively small, laid-back joint with just 1 chef and 1 other person running things - yet people get served promptly enough. You can serve yourself water from a tank, or you can order any number of soft drinks or beer as well. They have a touchscreen ordering system that's pretty straightforward, you're given a number and served within 5-10 minutes tops. If it's your first visit, definitely recommend the sampler platter - has easily enough food for one person or a solid amount to share for two, and you get to try all of their main varieties of Mac 'n' Cheese in one go. We felt that their American option (as classic as you can get) was actually their best item in the end - with a few contenders for second place (including the 4 Cheese and the "Cheeseburger" options). Everything is quite customizable no matter what you order - you can add more cheese, more breadcrumbs, more sauce and so forth for literally anything on the menu. Their smallest size for any one flavor, besides the sampler, is plenty for a single person - but you can scale up if you want to share with other people. I had ordered 2x Four Cheese Macs to go. 1 with bacon and it seemed a little long of a wait for it to be ready. There were a lot of to go orders and a few diners were waiting when I made the order at the kiosk. It had been placed in a Pizza style box so it was easy to transport. I had been able to dive in right away before we hopped on the Subway and it was really good, but hot. I believe one of them had Jalapenos since I remember I did not have any water on me. Both of the S'mac were really good, but not as good as the Homeroom on the West coast. I've ordered from this establishment on Seamless, have never stopped into it the physical location yet. If its nearly as good as its delivery, I will be there in no time. From what I have heard about the owners, they are good people local to NYC -- hence I am glad to continue to order meals from them on a regular basis (about 1x a week). My favorites are the major munch and the frozen bake at home meals. I like to get them and add in my own chicken, spam, sausage or burger to create a cheesy good concoction. I would like if they gave promos more on Seamless, or incentivized recurring orders, customers with applied promos if they order some certain amounts of food or times. For example, spend $50 get $5 credit towards another order. I have seen establishments do this and it has personally incentivized me to order from them over competition. TLDR-- enjoyed the sample platter bc my friend and i were able to try a bunch of different flavors however the majority of them were mid, with only a couple flavors that we actually enjoyed. Came for lunch at around 2pm with a friend after going to a cafe's grand opening nearby. When you enter, you can order at two kiosks at the front and seat yourself. There was plenty of seats inside and it was super warm too. We ordered the sample skillet, with 8 types of mac and cheese (pictured below). My friend and I both agreed that the food came out relatively fast. Now for the mac and cheese reviews (ranked): 1. Cajun (8/10) -- had the soupiest consistency of the 8 mac and cheeses. Other than the consistency issue, i thought the flavors in this one was the best; it even had a little kick of spice 2. Napoletana (7/10) -- not soupy! You cant go wrong with mozzarella tomato basil garlic. The flavor was alright, as expected of the ingredient combination 3. Four cheese (7/10) -- how you would expect four cheese to taste like; cheesy 4. Parisienne (7/10) -- was surprised to see figs included! Was super intrigued by the incorporation and i think the flavor worked out nicely. I wouldve rated it higher, except i think that the fig flavor was a little overpowering and not the subtle fig that I was lowkey expecting 5. La mancha (7/10) -- at first it was my favorite but each subsequent bite made the fennel flavor more and more overpowering and it left a minty aftertaste. Just personal preference but i wasnt a fan of the minty taste. 6. All american (6/10) -- it was just fine. What you think of when you think of american mac and cheese. Nothing really special. 7. Cheeseburger (6/10) -- i think if you were to name something after another food it should taste like that food. I was wary of the restaurant's setup, with its self-order kiosks separated from the seating area of tables and metal chairs by large plastic curtains. I didn't see a worker in sight either, but I was comforted by the fact that they had a decent amount of patrons, so the food must be good. The variety of mac and cheese was exciting but didn't help my indecisiveness. Luckily, we could order the S'mac Sampler for $21 to try eight different flavors at once. After ordering, we grabbed a table number, picked our seats, and waited for the one worker we eventually saw to bring us our food. The sampler came with an infographic, which was surprisingly useful! Cajun: Pepper Jack, cheddar, onions, celery, peppers, sausage Cajun aptly describes the flavor. The cheese was more liquid and less dried up compared to the others. However, it doesn't taste like mac and cheese. It's my third favorite, and I enjoyed the sausage pieces. 4 Cheese: cheddar, muenster, gruyere, pecorina One of the cheesiest flavors because of the four cheeses used. It's also like the Cheese Burger one but without the meat. Napoletana: mozzarella, tomatoes, basil, garlic The garlic flavor was very notable. Disappointingly, it wasn't giving pizza flavor. It did have bits and pieces of tomatoes. Parisienne: brie, mushrooms, rosemary, figs The rosemary flavor was overpowering. I wish there were more mushrooms; I only found one small slice. In comparison, the Napoletena is better. La Mancha: manchego, fennel, onions I didn't expect this one to be a little spicy. The fennel is very strong, whereas the onion is subtle but present. Alpine: gruyere, slab bacon The slab bacon tasted like Canadian bacon, aka my favorite type of bacon. Best out of all the flavors.
