Used to love Smack Pie but today when ordering we were no longer allowed in to look at cheese, sauce or topping options but rather has to pick from a list. I can go to any pizza restaurant and pick from a list. Part of the experience and what we enjoyed was looking at the toppings to see what looked good. We were told due to online orders and take out they don't offer the visual option any longer. Such a bummer!! read more

Order these online and when I got to the place they gave me the garlic knots. I explained and showed them my order and asked for my order to be corrected. A lady who was rude as hell told me that I ordered wrong , there is a option for sweet vr. Savory. I nicely explained that there is no options that say that. I placed an order over the phone and The person who took my order was one of the managers named emily and she is very rude. when i got there i opened my pizza to check it and it wasnt the pizza i asked for. I told them that wasn't the pizza i ordered and the manager emily raised her voice at me saying that was the pizza i ordered. She was extremely rude and makes me not want to go there again. In town for the pinball festival we walked to smack pie. The atmosphere was very upbeat and lively. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. We each had a pizza and shared the knots. Everything was well above what we expected. Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

This place has been one frequented by my family and friends for a while since it's inception. It hasn't been frequented frequently however and I understand why. First, it has a nice location in downtown, but it's seating can get rather tight and limited. In COVID times, that is no longer a concern; however, I do remember many a time trying to get proper seating. Margarita pizza- it use to wow me. I ordered it through door dash and I thoroughly enjoyed it until I later realized. They put no basil! And I never specified otherwise! It was not authentic, but still tasty. I knew something was missing... their balsamic drizzle is very good. I just believe that the five star pizza I know and I like has to be ordered there. The food wasn't that hot and the experience of a fresh overnight baked pizza, well, requires being there to consume it at the restaurant. I hope we can sit down again. My dad was most impressed with the pepperoni. I thought it was good. Not the greatest fan of the meat lovers pizza. Not Following Safety Guidelines My wife and I headed to Smack Pie, as it is one of our favorites, but when we got there we found that the state/county mandated safety guidelines were not being followed. The safety plexiglass was hanging from the ceiling, but not low enough to create a barrier between customer and employee. An entire family directly in front of us was allowed to enter without wearing masks. The oldest - I imagine the mom - had a terrible cough. She was coughing on the cash register, on the area where the pizza dough was being prepared and generally coughing in all directions continuously - she may only have a bad cold, but could very well have COVID-19. i write this review with a hea heart. I have always loved the product this restaurant has produced regardless of the fact that it is always a bit of a wait for the food to be ready. I have always figured good food is worth the wait. this was true until tonight. I was using the restroom while waiting for my order when I witnessed an employee use the restroom next to me then walk right out of the restroom and went right back to making pizzas. I am certain it was an employee because I could clearly see her red converse and her pink shirt through the gap in the stall door. I was so disgusted that my order went right in the trash and I went elsewhere for my dinner. I've always ignored the wait and the extremely rude lady that I believe is either the manager or owner. So before I started typing this out I tried to think of a reason this place may be a four star instead of five and I just couldn't think of anything! I love the concept of a make your own pizza without having to worry about topping charges! You walk in and it's $8.95 for an 11 inch pizza your way! Now you can go for the make your own or if you're feeling less creative you can go with one of their pre-imagined pizzas. They have a lot of options and it's great if you have a few members in your group who just have wildly different tastes. The staff was nice and will offer suggestions if you're looking for a good combination, and they won't judge if you choose something out of the box. I went with a pesto pizza with sausage, Canadian bacon, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives and peppercinis. I also topped mine off with the sweet chili finishing sauce. It may seem like a weird combination but I loved it! I ended up taking half of it home and was very happy with my choice. Brandon went for a red sauce pizza with buffalo chicken, salami and spicy pepperoni (not so spicy) and finished it off with hot sauce and ranch. He told me that if he knew how good this place was we would have come out a lot sooner and this guy's a New York Pizza snob. Pizza was great EXCEPT I don't like the style of cornmeal on the bottom of the pizza. It makes it very grainy. (Not so much a problem for next day leftovers though). My pizza had literally like 5 teensy pieces of bacon, a pitiful scattering of caramelized onions, & I could not even taste ANY bleu cheese (which is a strong taste no matter how much). My son's pizza was completely MISSING the fresh basil, had very little sauce, & maybe 3 sections of fresh mozzarella. Extremely disappointing for $30+! What a treat! It's a unique pizza place, prices very reasonable for what you get. The place was packed and we waited only 15 minutes for our pizzas. The guy who welcomed us and explained everything was super sweet, the girls making the pizzas were kind and patient while we made our choices. The pizza was very good, I thought the balance of chewy and crispy on the crust was perfect. Toppings were fresh and ample. I tried the balsamic sauce on the pizza after it was cooked and it was a nice touch! Only one star off because I found there was way too much cornmeal on the crust. Was recommended by a friend to go here and definitely did not regret it. I came here expecting it to be another pieology-like place, but I can see why this was unique. The dough they used for the pizza was way better than normal pizza places - it stayed crunchy the whole time (and I'm normally a slow eater). The restaurant gave off a very home-y vibe and you could tell it was a family-run business. I got the Hawaiian pizza and my boyfriend made his own pizza with pretty much everything on it. Both were delish. The only downside was that it was very noisy and slightly unkempt and messy but that could've just been that day because the whole place was crowded with kids. My first visit to smack pie pizza was today for a friends celebration. We had a private little area in the back. Having never been to smack pie pizza, I was excited to try something new! Basically, a lot more convenient than ordering a huge pie between friends and compromising what you would like on a pizza. Instead, you order your own personal pizza including all the fixings your heart desires. A typical 11" pizza is $8 and you can do half and half. I ordered half chicken pesto and half vegetarian. The customer service was great and I loved that the pizza didn't take too long to make, bake and serve. Crust on the pizza was probably the best I have had in a long time! My husband ordered the meat pizza. Not sure what that was called but it had all the meat fixings on top! I had to take off one star because halfway through eating my pizza I realized that there was no pesto on my chicken pesto side. It was too late because I had already enjoyed a majority of the pizza (I was really distracted and didn't notice until way too late...partly my own fault but still bummed). I've been frequently coming here since this location opened back in 2013. I remember when it first opened, there were lines out the door in the evenings for the first few months. Everyone in town was giving this place a try. I didn't leave disappointed either. I was hooked the moment I tried it out. I like they have the Pieology/Blaze concept. I'm not driving 45-55 miles out to visit a Pielogy or a Blaze Pizza when I can get a custom pie here in the next town over. I have taken so many photos over my visits of the pizzas made here. There's rarely a consistency on how it looks, but the flavor is pretty much consistent all around the board. It's given to you and cut immediately out of the oven. The pizza comes out steaming hot and your wait inline combined with you having wait to sink your teeth into it ups your level of anticipation and expectation of the taste. Don't worry, won't disappoint. I remember being fearful in Smack Pie's early days. It was all about a matter of timing the pizza to be perfectly cooked. The employees timing the pizza trying to find a good baseline of when to pull it out failed a couple times and we ended up getting semi-undercooked food, or the bottom would be burned to hell. These guys have perfected their cooking times to where the pizza is never undercooked, or overcooked. Haven't really had any terrible experiences here with the staff. You may run into 1 or 2 that look exhausted or bored doing the same all day toward the end of their shift. I haven't had anyone disrespect me or make me feel unwelcome either. If I had to complain at all (I can hear people saying, 'oh you don't have to), the wait times on a busy day get pretty crazy. The end of the line gets to a point where everyones crowded around the entrance to the place and the line won't move for 5-10 minutes. It makes sense that there'd be a long line though because the food here is good. Everyone is just as hungry as you and it's worth the wait. Very happy to see this place growing and expanding how they do business. They've added a Reward System that can be redeemed at checkout. Every 10th Pizza is free (give them your phone #). They've also added pagers/buzzers, which are modern enough when you're waiting for your name to be called at a place. They even have an online ordering option if you want to skip waiting and order + pay ahead a time. They've always offered a local wine list which is great. Even if I hear from my girl that they need to top the glass off (haha). This place stays up to date on their social media pages which is likely headed by their high school staff they have hired here. I can't wait for this place to expand outward. I'm not going to argue they open one here in Stockton. I'm sure the owners know better than that. It's risky & competitive expanding to the Sacramento Area where Pieology and Blaze pizza have been well established as go to build your own pizza joints. If you guys have any plans on expanding I can tell if it can produce the same quality of the food, it'll do good. This place is something special in my eyes! read more

So we finally went there for the first time yesterday because there is always a crazy long line. Customer services was good, we were immediately greeted when we walked in. I liked the decor and everything appeared to be really clean. I am Paleo so I chose the BBQ Smack Down on the gluten free crust. My hubby had the Lip Smacking on regular crust. My pizza was delicious and the crust was really good, its hard to find good gluten free crust. I took off 1 star because my crust was pretty burnt, I couldn't eat the outside edge it was so burnt and hard. My guess is that the gluten free crust takes less time to cook but it was left in the same amount as my husbands. My husband loved his pizza and said we will definitely be back (he's very picky about his pizza lol). read more

I was hungry AF and felt like I was gonna die so I ordered three pizzas. I ordered the original pizza, the double bacon pizza, and made my own. I'm trying to eat healthy and be vegetarian but I couldn't resist the huge variety of meat they had. I literally got everything. I added some veggies in there too to make myself feel better. Ran away from Smack pie, from owner's shocking smack piehole. Quality has dropped as well as service. Meanwhile hostility and prices have risen. I witnessed the owner attack a patron who is biracial who used to meet me there for a working lunch regularly. He used the restroom before eating to wash his hands and was verbally assaulted by the JERK owner who assumed that he was a vagrant. He has A sign that there is no public restroom is now on the front door. I feel that the treatment of my business partner is unacceptable. We used to eat there regularly, but have now moved next door for lunch. Smack pie will lose hundreds of further dollars that we gave in good faith. What impressed me most about this local pizza shop is the crust! I always pile my pizza with almost all the available toppings. Usually, this causes some of the toppings to fall off the crust while I'm eating it or the pizza to droop under the weight of the toppings but not at Smack Pie! Their crust has something special in that is able to hold up a lot of toppings. Not only that but the crust doesn't get mushy and soft even after reheating it in the microwave.
