Smokey Grill in Lodi is officially our new go to spot for incredible Tandoori BBQ food with amazing flavors. We've been wanting to try this spot for a while, and since their other location is closed in Sacramento on Tuesdays, we finally made the trip to Lodi and wow, it was absolutely worth it the wait and Abdul that helped us was cool. He had a good sense of humor. We were coming back from Monterey and all of us were hungry. We ordered quite a feast: (3) chicken tikka wraps without lettuce 8 piece chicken tikka 8 piece chicken malai 6 regular naans + 1 garlic naan Tandoori fish order Tandoori chicken pizza Chicken tikka masala rice plate Every single item was flavorful, mouth watering, and cooked perfectly. The chicken tikka and malai were tender and packed with flavor. The naans were soft and fresh, and the chicken tikka masala rice plate had that rich, comforting sauce that was creamy smooth you can't stop eating and dipping your naan into. The tandoori fish was a standout smoky, well seasoned, and tender. They give a lot of meat inside the wraps. The tandoori chicken pizza... let's just say we couldn't even wait to get home. We ate a slice in the car because the smell alone was too tempting. That's how good it was. We took everything to go, the quality was top tier! You can tell they care about their food and flavors and wanting their customers happy. Abdul kept letting us know the status of our order and took care of us with chutney and ranch. We ordered a whole of food after a long hot day golfing and it didn't disappoint. We got a mixed kabob platter, rice, garlic naan, house salad, mozzarella sticks, loaded fries and samosa chaat. Stopped by here on a Sunday with my husband and we felt like having kabobs so found this place on Yelp and were not disappointed. The kabobs are so juicy and tender, I don't like the plastic forks it takes away from the dining experience however I was impressed how easy I was able to cut into the chicken with a plastic fork. Tried Smokey Grill today and loved the food. We got the full grill platter, garlic naan, plain naan and sesame seed naan. We also tried the goat karahi and chicken tikka masala. This was the second time I've been here. The last time I had lamb kahari, which was delish. Tender and well seasoned, generous portion served over rice. Awesome if you want gravy. Tonight I had lamb chops and rice, it is not on the menu, but rather on a handwritten note to the right of the register. It was so freakin good. My family ordered food for the first time we got the barbecue platter and took it to a family event. Our other family member who orders here let us know there was multiple missing items from our platter, we only got the chicken and pieces of kebab no pieces of fish or anything else. When we let employee know, we found that we were missing the items. The employee told us to come to the restroom when I came. He argued with me for 20 minutes that he checked the cameras and we're not missing food explaining that we are missing food and why did he tell us to come if it wasn't wrong? My husband is a quiet, sometimes shy man, but he could give a powerful, loud speech about how much he loves Smokey Grill's Smokey Chicken sandwich. He texted me on his lunch break the other day (while eating leftover salad) that he was thinking about that sandwich and was telling his co-worker about it. Our first time, we tried the mixed bbq tray, which also included grilled veggies and a few slices of cucumber and lime. The cool, refreshing mint and cilantro in their chutney went perfectly with all of the spice and smokiness. I am still thinking about their incredibly tender Chicken Malai and Tandoori Fish packed with flavor. The cashier was friendly and patient with us as we were new here and took a while to decide. Because of my husband's love of their Smokey Chicken sandwich, we returned the next night for another one. Our son said everything he's tried is a 10. His favorite is the BBQ chicken sandwich. We also tried the Tandoori Chicken Pizza last night, and I'm currently eating it cold for breakfast, with my coffee and coconut milk. We traveled 30 minutes to try this place, and it definitely did not disappoint. We ordered the platter grill and substituted the beef kabob for Mali chicken, along with one garlic naan and a large order of fries. We were so impressed with the food -- the taste and texture were perfect. Nothing was burnt; everything was juicy and cooked just right. The flavors reminded us of home. It was absolutely delicious and well worth the drive. We were craving some Indian food and decided to try Smokey Grill. The weather has been crazy hot so we ordered out food to go so we could eta in our air conditioned house. We tried the samosas to start as well as the chicken tikka masala meal and the chicken karahi. We also ordered their regular and garlic naan. The heat on the chicken tikka was overwhelming in my opinion but you get used to it and the dish is actually very tasty. The karahi was not for me but I did try it and although I found it bitter and found the meat chewy,, my husband enjoyed it. The naan were both excellent and the samosa was good as well but the chutney that accompanied it was far too spicy so we ate it plain. I found the price to be a bit high for what we received. There was a lot of rice and the salad was just a piece of lettuce and a few raw veggies with no dressing whatsoever. There were also too many pieces of hard/chewy meat in my husband's dish. I would return to try their pizza or their burgers on another occasion and if we order Indian from this location again, we will opt only for the main dishes only and just cook some rice at home. read more

Ok. I thought I had reviewed this place before. I would undoubtedly give 5 stars for the food. Everything we've tried so far has been excellent. I do lunch appointments with my customers on a regular basis and everyone that has tried it has agreed the food is delicious. The owner/workers are always accommodating and helped me create the perfect amount of food whether it's for 2 or 20. We normally order Chicken/Beef Kebabs or Mixed Platter, rice, garlic naan and Chicken Tikka Masala. Yesterday I wanted to try the wings cause I've never had them.. and they were yummy. We ordered the Buffalo and the Spicy. The only thing I wish is for them to open early enough if I'm picking up for an office that needs to have the food by 1130.. I'd order from them all the time if that was the case. But totally doesn't change my mind that this is a go-to when we have cravings for Kebabs and chicken tikka Masala. The ground beef kabab was absolutely pathetic, but the tandoori chicken leg was the best I've ever had in the US. I've been to India well over a dozen times and this was as good as the highest quality tandoori chicken I've had in India. It was 100% cooked to order and not reheated as most other Indian restaurants do. It was so good that I'm overlooking the ground beef kabab train wreck.
