This place is terrible. I'm standing in line writing this review because this is the 6th time I've been here and had the same experience. I usually come for 1 or 2 items and there is always someone with a cart Full of groceries in front of me. Many times there is a really long line and only one person on register. That is terrible customer service! I used to work at Trader Joe's and our policy was to open a new register if anybody was waiting. If they didn't leave people waiting in line for so long they would get more business out of it. They are losing out on thousands of dollars instead of paying somebody an extra $10 an hour to be there. It's kind of dark and dreary in here as well and the customers are kind of strange. I'm glad smart and final is there when I am in a pinch but it is such a dreadful experience going there. read more

Chino corn used to be sought after. This store had a sale yesterday pf 5 ears for a dollar with a sign that said, 'No Chucking' This is not fit for human consumption. The corn is not edible. I can't imagine how it was placed out for sale without inspection. With corn like that in Chino, the remainder of their produce must be of equally high standards. read more

I'm loving the new Smart and Final. We've had a few local supermarkets close down recently, so "any" market was going to be a welcome addition to the neighborhood. A reasonably priced market is even better than what we've lost. So what I really like about this location, other than its local, is its set up more like a traditional supermarket not a buy in bulk club store, which I thought a Smart and Final was. You can certainly buy the large bulk items here but they've also mixed in plenty of traditional sized items. Just me and the wife now so we don't need the 64 ounce catsup bottle or a 48 pack of tooth brushes. The place just opened but I hope they maintain the cleanliness and staff level. The cashier just kinda stared at a customer in line in front of me and gave very poor service, and even told the customer, "Do you want to start bagging your items?" Very little help here. I give them 1 star for their competitive prices on vegetables. Only been here twice. First time I went was on a weekday in the middle of the afternoon. There was only one register open and about 3 people in line with completely full shopping carts full. I had only 2 items to buy. Unfortunately they don't have self check so I had to wait. Luckily the man in front of me was nice enough to let me go ahead of him. When I finally reached the register the clerk was not very friendly. The second time I went here I was looking for baby formula. When I asked the clerk at the register if they carried any he answered me rudely and seemed annoyed. All the people who work here are incredibly rude! Unhelpful and give you attitude when you ask for help. I wish I would of got names. The dumb girl wearing googles should stay home if she's going to be rude to customers about covid. No one had the slightest bit of customer service. And employees stood in the way stocking and are completely unaware of their surroundings. And they don't care about customers needs and questions. It's 11 am on a Tuesday and the store is hardly stocked. I will never go back. I sure hope the manager checks their employees on their attitude and customer service. read more

This is a zero star reDo not use their delivery service! It's a scam and shady business they have with instacart. Instacart hires the shady pack and delivery drivers. First, their website lets you put things in your cart that make you believe are in stock and even take your CC info and a total price that will be charged! Next, you pick a time for delivery. Once the instacart guy starts packing your order, he will text you with questions asking what replacement products you would like for the products he can't find. What?! I placed my order last night and the items were not noted as being out of stock. Anyway, I then noticed he never asked me about the most important items nor told me they were out of stock -- hand sanitizer and wipes! So then I double check with him on text that he had those two items and he replies that he edoes not because they don't have them!! Had I known this from the beginning I would not have started my order in the first place! I told him to cancel my order! He said he couldn't and to call smart and final. So I did right away (while this guy was still at the store) and the asst manager I talked with said she could not do anything about! She said they have nothing to do with the online orders--mind you, you order the stuff from the actual 'smart and final' website--So deceiving and shady! Neither side will take responsibility for their incompetent service! I will never shop there and I will tell others not to as well! I ending up driving the items back to smart and final and left them with the so-called manager named Kevin who also said they can't refund my money back because they aren't responsible for their online orders. read more

Only two cashiers working and both with long lines. We were in the 10 or less line cashier was slow and not friendly and an attitude and let a customer butt in front of the line to do a return then cashier called for the manager. When he approached to do the return he saw the line and did not ask for back up cashiers. The 10 or less line had 9 customers because the 2nd cashier closed. Another cashier came over to talk to our cashier and I had to say to them while looking at the lone line " you should open up another cashier. Terrible customer service and this store! read more

They sell expired grocery products instead of taking them off the shelves. Take your money elsewhere.

The only reason I visit this store is because it's convenient. Cashiers are rude and you are expected to bag your own groceries. Most of the cashier won't even push your groceries down the bagging area. Today was the worst, I was reaching over the bagging area trying to get my groceries when the cashier hands me my receipt (without even a thank you) and actually walked away. read more

I'm a new resident to Chino Hills and really love this place as the inside is a pleasant surprise from what you imagine from the outside. It's huge and there are lots of items. Produce section is a nice surprise, but no actual butcher. Nevertheless, the prices are good, but I can't give 5 stars because of the checkout experience. Long lines can be an issue, and some bagging training might help move things along faster. Perhaps a better bagging set-up or an option to have a self checkout station. It would definitely help if you just need to run in for 1-2 items. Sometimes, I just want a case of water, ice, candy, the delicious roast chicken, or beer. I often have to ask myself if I really want to go into S&F to wait in a long line, or just make the drive to TJ's. read more

I may be a customer service snob but I just feel people have forgotten that we are consumers. I came in had a good amount of stuff. We have to bring our own bags. I put them on the counter for the checker to bag. If I knew I was to bag my own, I would have. Mary the checker just started throwing stuff in my large bag. I had fruit and veggies with boxes of cereal milk coffee etc. when I witnessed her just throwing items in I decided to take it upon myself and bag my groceries. It was a high school job back in the days. Amazing how much you can fit in a large bag if you bag it correctly. She helped at the end. As I am walking away, she has someone run over to me that I forgot my bread crumbs. Ummm no you didn't bag them. Ugh. Whatever happened to hi how are you doing? Did you bring bags today? I have been craving salt water Taffy but couldn't find a place that sold it in Chino and then a freind let me know smart and final have it. I don't live too close to this location but whenever I visit family, I always stop by to pick up groceries. I was in need of help locating a product and the manager kindly offered his assistance. I believe his name was Steve. The lines were a little long (like most grocery stores) but the cashiers were able to get through pretty quick. Overall great shopping experience! read more

The only time they put groceries in your cart is if you buy bags. I usually just buy a few things at a time, but even if I bought more, they should put my groceries in my cart. Two managers have told me they should put the groceries in my cart. Today, a different manager told me they do and they don't. The cashier said it is not part of her job. This Smart & Final used to be Vons, so maybe i'm just accustomed to better treatment. However, all stores, except Food 4 Less, gives better treatment. it is just a couple of blocks from home, and i do try to shop in my city of Chino Hills, so I used to shop there. Even though i should not have to qualify my treatment with this statement, I'll say it: I'm a senior citizen with severe arthritis, especially in my hands, and severe carpal tunnel treatment. read more

They don't take visa debit cards, they can only run them as credit. They also do not allow credit card purchases for gift cards. If that's your only debit you are out of luck. They told me tough so I ended up going to Albertsons. read more

Pretty convenient place to shop at, the bakery bakes very good products overall. If you need bulk but don't wanna go to Costco or Sams club, come here. They also have great deals on alcohol which is a deal breaker for me. Staff real friendly and chill. read more

Smart & Final has become my "go to" Grocery store. The employees are super friendly both at checkout and in the aisles. They have a wide selection of products and I can always find what I need. They have some unique products that I can't find anywhere else and of course if I need to buy in bulk or if I need some kitchen gadget, they have those items in stock. I give 4 stars because the produce department can be "slim pickings" at times, and the produce that is there may be old, so you have to be selective. The meat department is OK for basics, but if you want a really good steak, go elsewhere. The wine selection is OK also, but again other stores do better in this department. I really like the way they handle the Covid checkout, with a single line, then they call you to the next open register. I've been in that line when it went halfway down the cheese section and it only took about 5 minutes to get to a register. My only real complaint is that their former excellence in Covid procedures has slipped lately. The employees all wear masks, and they still wipe down the belt between customers, but I was there twice this week, and a vendor stocking shelves was maskless, as was a customer today in the cheese section. I was on my way to checkout, and had to wait for her to grab her items and leave the store. No bueno. Other than that though, I really like this store. read more

A few of the grocery stores have come and gone from this location and I'm hoping this is one that will stick. It has that Costco/sam's club feel but with different tiers of how much of a bulk you want to purchase. For chino hills, I think this grocery store fits everyone's needs. read more

I was treated like a pariah as soon as I entered that store where I had been a repeat customer for years simply for knowing my rights as a human in this country. Sonia the manager jumped at me from the first step I took in to this store telling me I could not enter. I asked her "why not" and she proceeded to strong arm her store policy. I explained simply her store policy only applied to the employees but according to the law it would not be valid to me. I went about my quick business and soon found myself in a line that was too long for the number of customers in it. When I finally got to a checker the young man told me his boss told him to not serve/process my purchase. She gleefully approached me when I insisted their store policy violates my civil and constitutional rights. Sonia then took my intended purchase and removed it all the while telling me she would not provide her district managers name when I made it clear she was obligated to do so. It took the young man who was the checker to provide the names I needed to file a complaint. I will follow this up and will have them serve me as they should instead of being racist towards me. read more

I actually enjoy visiting this store. It's a clean store and everything is stocked up nicely...why the 2 stars? Well let's just say the cashiers lack customer service etiquette...I had a nasty experiences with a cashier a few months ago by being loud & obnoxious stating during several instances until she finally broke the camel's back by one time stating "ew I wouldn't buy pork butt..butt that's just nasty.." well I finally called corporate...I went back a later time and she made a comment under her breath to the other cashiers "...oh it's Mr. Corporate watch out"...that was just mean & petty...so I stayed away....but ran low on our family tea inventory....I decided to give them a try again today...this other cashier decided to be loud & obnoxious too "Gee you must drink a lot of tea..." "..why so much tea?.." "...I never drank this much tea in my life.." I'm hard of hearing mind you and for me to hear her loud mouth it's concerning....I'm certain that these cashiers like to stereotype their customers based on their race, gender, etc I mean their petty comments support this review....I'm so done with this store...but I shouldn't have to accommodate your store by going out of my ways to another Smart & Final....please alleviate this issue...train your cashiers appropriately or hire new staff... read more

First time going to this location. And the store was nice and clean. Product was merchandised nicely and the shelves were full. This would have been a great experience, expect when I went to check out, one of the products rang up incorrectly. When I told the cashier, she tried calling a manager over. After waiting for a couple of minutes, I told the cashier that the item is right next to the register with a sign. Either way, didn't want to wait anymore, so just asked to take that item off.
