I was shopping today at this location and had 12 items, no one was waiting for the 10 items or less check out, I put my 12 items on the conveyer and was told by the man running the register 10 items or less only. So I put all my items back in the cart and proceeded to the next checkout, I said to the manager it's only 2 items more and he replied rules are rules The next person to check out in the 10 items or less had 18 items and was not asked to go to another check out line The manager and the check out person were both Hispanic and so was the person with 18 items Is this discrimination? Wish I could rate this place higher because it is clean, organized and fully stocked, but every time Im ready to check out, the register is a nightmare. It's ether not enough cashiers, slow lines or cashier registers needing to be rebooted. It's not a one time experience, it happened every time I go. Ever since the Vons closed, I go to this Smart and Final store because it's the most convenient to me. But in the past I've had issues with milk going bad way faster than it should, so I usually end up driving farther away to shop when I need milk. A day and a half ago, though, I didn't feel like driving so I figured that since it'd been at least a couple of years since I'd bought milk there, maybe they'd fixed their issues. Nope! After one day, the "First Street" brand fat-free milk I bought is already smelling off. Even feeling the milk in the dairy case, it doesn't feel very cold. I think they have some cold storage issues. I just don't trust this store with anything that requires refrigeration. When I buy milk from Vons or Ralphs, it is usually fine for at least a week and a half to two weeks. I guess it's worth driving a couple of miles. read more

I shop at Smart & Final early in the mornings and check out clerk Eric is always there with a smile helping customers. He is always efficient, friendly, and keeps the line moving while still being kind and welcoming. The employee actually mocked me and spoke to me in black voice. Due to me being African American. I manager was even less helpful. He told me there are 2 sides to even story. They will never get another penny from me. This place is the worst in town. and their employees can be rude and say whatever they want. I had an uncomfortable experience at this Smart and Final Extra regarding the restroom policy. My partner and I were going to use the single-occupancy restroom when the manager, Oscar, approached us in a way that made us feel very uncomfortable and as if he didn't care about the situation. Wasn't impressed with customer service. Went in for two things. Wasn't greeted upon entry which isn't a stretch considering how close the registers are to the door. Upon checkout, the cashier was dealing with someone who wanted multiple items of the same thing and took longer than expected. (It was like who's on first skit). I have a couple issues with this store... they did not have the advertised ground Turkey which wasn't a surprise because it was such a Great price, so great I knew they wouldn't have it until After the sale was over. Secondly, Mom had to use the restroom while we were there shopping so I asked one of the employees (I'm thinking maybe she was a manager because her shirt with a different color) if they had a restroom here for public use and she told me yes, in the back so we made our way to the restroom but when we got there, they had a pin pad on the door which meant we needed a code so I had to walk all the way back to the front of the store and ask her for the code. She gave it to me with an attitude, maybe she thought i knew it, ridiculous! If you know the restrooms require a code, why don't you give that information to whomever's asking. So silly. read more

I am updating my review solely on customer service. I cannot believe what happened here today. I went to purchase items for Valentine's Day. I was in a great mood to say the least. As I listened to the intercom it said to proceed to register 5. I went to the register however someone was there with a cart full of groceries. So I then proceeded to the open register on 3. The cashier said that 5 was opens I explained that there was someone there. It really shouldn't matter right? Well the cashier was upset and rolled her eyes at me. Didn't say hi just asked if I wanted bags. I said no, then she finished ringing me up and waited for my card. After I paid she stood there, as if she wanted me to put my items in the cart. She rudely put my groceries in the cart and was done. So I said thank you. I got nothing so I said thank you again. Nope! Nothing So I called the store to speak to the manager. And I was transferred to my cashier not knowing she was the stand in manager of the evening. I explained what had happened. She was silent so I asked her if she could hear me since o got no response. She said she was in a register and then it made Sense that she was the employee. I asked her if she was on register 3 she said yes. Ha! So you were the employee right? She hung up on me!!!!! Wow great way to handle a situation. She choirs have apologized and I would have accepted it. But instead I got the disrespect of hanging up on me. Thank you I'll never return here again. read more

Sparkling new store! Same setup as other Smart & Final extra stores, serving a combination of business and residential customers. They have decent sales, so it's worth checking out depending on your grocery needs. This new location is located near Marshall's and Rite Aid (where OSH used to be). It's also part of the larger shopping center along with Vons and Aldi. So you can get a lot of shopping done in one spot! About 90% of my grocery shopping is done in the produce section and you can find a pretty nice assortment here. In addition to the expected standard items, they have some of my favorites like passion fruit (although they are $2.79 each!). Watch their sales for extra good deals! read more

Love this Smart & Final Extra... the customer service is AMAZING!!! along with the staff going above and Beyond assisting us the (Public) with our needs. I appreciate the empathy the staff has shown when they are out of something. Especially during COVID-19. The store was fully stocked and I appreciate that. Not once or twice, but multiple times I have had dairy, specifically milk, go bad way before the use-by date. This morning I opened a sealed 1/2 gallon of Alta Dena low fat milk with an 8/7/23 exp date on it. That's over a week out and it had turned sour. I don't linger with groceries, I go straight home and put cold items away first. I walk the store to ensure I put cold items in the cart towards the end of shopping. Since this happens over and over, I don't think it's me. What else can you do? I spoke to a manager once about this and he acknowledged it has been a problem outside of his control. I have avoided buying dairy from S&F because of this but who wants to go to a 2nd store just for milk? I like a lot about S&F, no cards, the checkers bag as they go, and the prices are good on the store brand as well as many other brand items. Personnel is usually friendly and the store seems clean. The produce is pretty good. But the dairy situation hasn't improved over a couple of years. Guess I will only go there when I don't need milk. Too many times for me to ever trust them again. Just a head's up that dates don't necessarily mean anything. I always check the dates on bread and dairy before putting in my cart. Doesn't matter for milk, at least. read more

The only reason im giving this smart & final a one star was because a cashier named "Thomas" just tossing my groceries as he scanning them. Then once he ls done I wanted to make sure all of my items went thru & check my purchases; I understand there is people waiting but im sure no one want to feel pressured nor be rush to hurry up in a rude way by a cashier. This place has great service everyone that work there is friendly. The food is usually stocked. And the store is clean.

If you're going to lock up the liquor, at least staff enough people to tend to it when the attendant button is pushed. Been standing here five minutes while the cashiers are swamped and no one has come by. I've repeatedly heard the announcement made "assistance needed in liquor and wine" yet no one is responding. Where's the Manager!? Ok now...Finally a worker comes over to get alcohol for someone in line...completely ignores me and starts to walk away. (Mind you the light is blinking and announcement still being made) I ask if I can be helped and she tells me I have to get in line and ask cashier So all this time I've wasted here, I could've been standing in the longest line in the world and gotten a head start at checking out. I'm happy to have an affordable grocery store back in the area. Vons can get pricey and was the only market in the area ever since the Ralphs closed. It's clean still and has a good selection of items. I used them recently to order groceries online. About 1/4 of the items I requested were not available. But they did come in about 2 hours so that was good. It's hard to take all the kids out to go to the market, and I'm happy they have a delivery feature. read more

I went in to get a fresh, green, garden salad and they didn't have any that were vegan. I was craving some really green salad with spinach, not the iceberg lettuce that they had. They had nothing vegan and gluten free for me to eat that was made in the deli. I wanted a vegan salad with vegan dressing. Yes, I am a fan of this store. However, this morning I finished shopping and approached the wrong cashier! She was not friendly at all and would not put my grocery bags in the cart for me to take to my car. I thought that was part of the job! Everyone else there is very friendly, and I got a hello from half a dozen people this morning. There is a very nice cashier named Eric, and I will try to get into his line from now on. I was so very excited when this Smart and Final opened. The store is always clean and in the beginning the store staff was absolutely amazing. Staff is not that wonderful or amazing anymore. About a month and half ago I was there shopping and at check out the cashier was on her cell phone and texting, she had attitude and never bothered to start bagging groceries so I did. She tossed my receipt and didnt even say thank you. I left called and spoke to Jose the assistant store manager. He said next time I came in to see him. I did he advised he had spoken to the cashier and gave me a gift card for the problems I had. Today, when i went in extremely early there was one register open. I got in line and when i began putting my items on the belt, they opened another register since the line had the person in front of me, me and 5 more customers. I ended up the same cashier and the same attitude. She never bothered to bag groceries and was pushing heavy items on the fruit, bread and veggies. So yet again I had to bag my groceries. I did not even finish bagging my groceries and she was already ringing up the person behind me. Got an attitude when she passed me my receipt and again no thank you. Call to advise the manager, again and was told by Gloria that Jason was not in today but she could help. Explained the situation and she said "well nothing I can do call Jason tomorrow". When I said I couldnt she hung up the phone on me. As much as I like this store I dont think I'll be back anytime soon. read more

So I decided to give this store another try, after my first negative review for overcharging. Twice I have been to this store and twice their grocery cart has set off the security alarm when going through exit doors. The cashier is supposed to scan the cart so this does not happen. Today when I walked out the door after going through the checkstand the cart locked half way thru the door!!! I almost tripped. GET IT RIGHT. I was in the store Sunday morning 6-21 at 6:30am. The 2 employees that were re stocking the produce section were not wearing masks. They didn't even have them around their neck.
