the parking lot of a store

I specifically made the drive out to Roseville to this Smart and Final (SAF) to buy Farmer John Dodger Stadium hot dogs. But I found out from staff that they do not carry those anymore. They have not for a few years. Oh well. But it was not a lost cause. I came prepared with a cooler so I was ready to shop for bargains. I found them all over... in the produce, fresh meats, snack food, diary, and frozen sections. The produce looked all so fresh and gorgeous at fantastic prices. They even had an organic section. I had to do a double take with the prices because I rarely see prices that low for organic. The fresh packed meats did not look bad at all. Though they no longer carry Dodger dogs, they do carry the line of Hoffy hot dogs. That is a brand not commonly seen at local grocery stores. They even carry their own line of staple items labeled First Street which was significantly priced less than the brand names. I bought the First Street mini bagels and bottled water and taste the same as their brand name counterparts. The shop is located in the Roseville Square Shopping Plaza on Harding Blvd. There is plenty of parking. In particular, they seem to have more than the usual number of handicapped spots. The shop is modern looking inside, and very clean and organized. Staff is great. They even had wipes for the carts near the entrance.

Do not buy from the bulk food bins at this store. I purchased 3 lbs of dry roasted salted pistachios last week from the store on Harding in Roseville. My family has been eating them every day. And I discovered this crawling out of a bowl of nuts today. Pretty gross. I am very freaked out right now. I've called the store and spoke with Terry. She didn't seem super concerned so I called corporate and spoke with Raphael and sent over these pictures. He assured me that they would investigate. I'm telling you, if there are worms in one bin, there are worms in ALL of their bins! This is the last time I'll be buying from the bulk food section at Smar&Final, and possibly everywhere else. OMG, so grossed out!!

The new Bentley at the discount store. Haha

I love smart and final, they have great prices, they carry a lot of old time products that stores don't carry anymore. The lines are quick and they carry Xlint Tamales that is a very old brand that we grew up eating. These Tamales are hard to find. They carry lots of unique items. I love bringing the new Bentley to the discount store and watching everyone's reaction. Especially when I wear old shorts, holes in my shirt and flip flops!

The bread slices are enormous so they spread out all the veggies to fit the slice. I had ONE slice of pickle, one slice of tomato, three slices of avocado, two pieces of onion, and some lettuce on each half. It was really kind of astonishing to see how skimpy and pathetic it was. If it's a veggie sandwich with no meat and it's the same price, why wouldn't they add more veggies??? It's definitely not worth $5. I put everything on one half of the sandwich to try to fill up the bread and even then it was still skimpy. The employee seemed super irritated with simple questions I had (because I'd never been there) and just barked at me to fill out the little paper slip. There were no other customers so I'm not sure what the issue was.

Don't shop hungry I hear it all the time. So many things look so yummy here. I got another snack item their antipasto stick Prosciutto wrapped in mozzarella cheese. Another yummy snack item. Sold out of their tote bags again. I will never get a mini tote bag I guess.

You can shop down this aisle, with the freezer section on both sides of you and you pretty much end up with some type of cuisine from around the world! I bought some daffodils at $2.89 a bunch. They were all still closed and waiting to be brought home. I ended up buying 4 bunches so I can give some to my daughter and some to my client. Trader Joe's also has unique floral arrangements that you don't normally find at regular grocery stores. Within 24 hours, maybe less, they were opening up and had that beautiful bright yellow they daffodils are known for. I love buying quite a few bunches so that it looks fuller in the vase! As much as I loved these flowers, they didn't last more than a few days. At both my house and my clients, these were tossed by the end of the week (I bought them on a Sunday.) Although I bought them at such a good price, I would still love for flowers to last a bit longer, not than less than a week.. (When I buy them at Safeway, they last 2 weeks!) I also bought myself a string of pearls (A SUCCULENT!!!!!) In the right hands, that baby can grow long and strong! I'll keep you updated on that one if you like! Service is always the best here. I love coming for the freshest food! They have the best, most unique foods for a budget friendly price!

Their ads come out Tuesday night on the handy Safeway app. The old school way (cutting coupons from ads) is still availablel. For the discounts, you can use your phone number. That gets you member prices, which saves you money. Without signing up for the Safeway membership, you will pay a substantial amount more. This store is very clean. It's nice to grab yourself a coffee at Starbucks while you shop. All the departments work very hard to maintain an organized space, although there are hiccups here and there. They have great weekly specials. One that I am fond of is their "$5 Friday," where they offer an items/items for a deal. At this store, if they are out of that item that is part of their $5 Friday, you snooze you lose. For example, Safeway was offering the beef short ribs at just $5 a pound in their meat deptartment back in mid January, but they ran out. Normally, if they're out of an item that's on sale, you can request what's called a "rain check" at check out. This "rain check" is good for 30 days after it is given to you. I just found out they do not offer "rain checks" at this store for $5 Friday items, as said by the new night manager on Friday February 6th. Thankfully, it was already provided to me in mid January by an employee that also did not know this was a rule. So they honored it. At this store, "rain checks" are available on other items that are on sale in the ad during the week. Since this Safeway is not close to where I live, two other Safeway's have told me they offer it on all items all the time because they want to keep the customers coming back. Even on the $5 Friday items. So, for the inconvenience of having to go to another store because of this, I did drop my star rating by 2. I like using self checkout. It is easy and quick. The card systems take Apple and Android pay. There is a checker available to help you if you run into any issues. One person watches over about 6-8 self check out stations. Regular check stands are still available, too. I won't stop coming to this store. My client lives around the corner and she has her favorite Safeway items, like that roasted chicken I just picked up for her. She loves drinking Sprite and about every other week, Sprite will go on sale at Safeway's as "buy 2, get 2 free" and every so often, "buy 2 get 3 free." How can you pass up a deal like that?!
