I messaged through Yelp for a quote for a repair for a friend. He eventually took his vehicle here; I don't know the details but he was quite happy. He referred me here when I had some car problems. Turns out, my car problems we're mostly annoyances and not a risk at all, David assured me of this and said that they could fix it, but he wouldn't recommend it as it would be a waste of money; he could make the noise stop, but the noise wasn't hurting anything; at worst it was a slight annoyance. Additionally, they detected a faulty sensor, again, they could resolve it, but it wasn't critical. I had to go to emissions soon, so I was concerned about the sensor/dash light, but he explained that the ABS light was not a concern for emissions testing. David only charged me for my oil change, as I recall it was quite reasonable. I had to ditch my last mechanic because I believe he was pulling a fast one on me, my friends, and my family. Don't do business with shady mechanics. Take your vehicle somewhere that cares about doing the right thing! read more

David is honest, reasonable, and knows what he's doing. I have been going to him for all my car issues since finding him on Yelp. Once finding him they were closed for a little due to the pandemic. Me being impatient I took my car to a friend of a family to work on my car. I still regret it to this day not being patience. My car started to leak oil after a week taking it to this other mechanic. That is when I took it David. David was kind enough to take my car on the lift, clean it, and told me to come in the next day to see where the oil was coming from. He showed me the next day exactly where the oil was coming from. I ended up taking my car back to the other mechanic to have the work redone. But ever since then any issue with my cars I take it to David. I have complete confidence with David and his team and know they will get the work done correctly. read more

The most trustworthy mechanic I've ever had the pleasure of working with. David always gives honest feedback about your car when you bring it in for service. My car wouldn't start and I took it in for repair. I was told it could be an alternator issue and I just about cried because I know a dead alternator = $$$. Fortunately it was a dead sensor, so it was much cheaper, but he also checked my alternator just in case as well as the other sensor and battery. In the end, he suggested only replacing the sensor, which I did, and now my car is fine. David always tells you exactly what needs to be repaired or replaced and doesn't make unnecessary repairs just to get extra money. I also hadn't noticed my car had no gas when I brought it in, and he even put gas in my tank for me. I cannot recommend this shop enough. I'll be a loyal customer. read more

David Bang has been my mechanic for exactly 6 years. I have been going to him since he was employed @ another mechanic on Golf & Arlington Heights Rd. I wouldn't trust my Jeep with anyone else. David always explains everything that needs immediate repair / replacement and let's me know which repairs I can hold off on. He is knowledgeable, his services are priced fairly and he is SO honest. He has replaced my brakes, replaced a serpentine belt, replaced my alternator, installed my battery, and replaced both the front and rear window lift plate regulators (my Jeep is old!!) and he does my oil changes, too. David is an automotive genius and I highly recommend him to everyone in the Northwest Suburbs. Used to go to Engine Depot because of David Bang, and now my business will follow to Smart Auto. Honest mechanic used to be an oxymoron, but David has restored my faith in the profession. He's the most honest, transparent and fair mechanic that I have ever been to. Need a new fuel pump on your car? David will patiently explain what happens if you don't replace it - what it will cost if you do replace it and he can find an aftermarket part - what it will cost if you use OEM -- can you do part of the work now and part later? I've had David as my mechanic for years and when he moved here we followed (and even people we've referred to David before followed as well). We take our cars here even though it's a little out of the way now. They fix what needs fixing and they tell you what to expect in the near term as well so that you can plan accordingly. I've taken my car here more than once only to be turned away because there wasn't an issue (or it was something that needed a quick adjustment). We have had David work on our cars for many years. He is a great guy and without a doubt the most honest mechanic you will find! The needle on our speedometer stopped working yesterday. My husband called and talked to David and we were able to bring it in mid afternoon. David explained the possibility of what might be wrong and what the cost would be. I knew David from Engine Depot. He has been my mechanic for both my cars for almost 8 years now and he is by far the most honest mechanic I have ever met. I am at a point where I do not need to discuss prices because I am sure that he will fix what needs to be fixed and he will not charge more than he has to. His Dad, John is pretty good guy too, he recently replaced rotors and brake pads and did a very satisfactory job. Great work by David! Takes good care of his customers. I've been his customer for over seven years and I had nothing but good experience. I had my own crv with bad power steering axle and he replaced it at reasonable cost. Now I have a forester and he fixed my air conditioner. I do the recommended maintenance through him as well and he makes sure he checks everything throughly each time. You get more bang for your buck since he does high quality work. read more
