I had a to go order. Once I drove home I realized one of my burgers was missing. I immediately called to see if the missing burger was waiting or if they needed to make it. I was on hold the whole drive back. I make it back in the store and the cashiers only response was "It didn't have a receipt". Honestly I was just looking for a simple sorry, and then explained everything to her about how this is super inconvenient and unprofessional on their store. She just stared at me. I never file complaints and super easy to please but this is beyond unprofessional and rude. Updating to say that Smashburger has been super nice at reaching out and wanting to make things right! We ordered our food with no problem; however, our food came out scattered and our milkshakes took even longer. Some of us were halfway done with our food and our daughter had finished her burger by the time they came out. Both our BBQ bacon burgers were without BBQ sauce but I didn't realize it until it was too late. They remade the other burger quickly. We visited the men's bathroom and it was very dirty; our son even noticed how dirty it was. The front trash can was overflowing and the tops of both trashcans and were noticeably dirty. I do love a good burger, and have come close to finding a good burger within the past 18 months or so...the kind of burger that one writes lyric odes dedicated to Helen about, the kind of burger that causes me to jump in the bitchin' van and drive 1/2way across the state for, so when we were on the way out of Columbia after a day visiting the State Fair, we came across the Smashburger. Since we, surely, had completely blown our calorie allotments for the weekend, well, why not, right? The sweet tea was fabulous, not too sweet, not too bland, nicely colored...add this to the 100+ selection cola machine and we're off to a good start. We had two milkshakes, smash fries, standard fries, a Carolina Chili Burger, and a Spinach and Goat Cheese Burger. The milkshakes were really good, creamy, sweet, very well balanced. The smash fries were favored over the others, and they were both pretty nice...not earthshakers, but not frozen dreck either. The burgers: I didn't try my wife's Spinach and Goatcheese as I do not care for goatcheese. She indicated that it was good, but thought that combination would probably be better on a chicken sandwich instead of a hamburger. My Carolina Chili Burger was good, but I've got to say that there was so much "stuff" on it, I could barely taste the beef, but I do have a soft spot for a pretzel bun. Went to Smash Burger in Irmo Saturday night for the first time. Parking was tricky but we found a place soon. We got burgers and fries to go and ate them when we got home. The restaurant is new and very clean and inviting but not large. There was room that we could have eaten there even tho it was the dinner hour. Looked really good and tasted even better. I had the avocado club and was very pleased. Even better than I'd expected. The other person had the truffle mushroom swiss and I could smell the mushrooms all the way home. They were very satisfied as well. The fries are different than I've ever had before. Smash Fries have rosemary and olive oil. I'm not a big fan of fries but these were very good and I ate them all, which is unusual. I will definitely be back. Everything very fresh and the meat seemed more like a good steak. The burgers are pretty good! They're not greasy, and you can customize your burger as you wish. The reason I prefer this place to others is because I can substitute sweet potato fries or a gluten free bun! I am also anxious to try their salads. My 12 year old, who normally refuses to eat hamburgers went there with her friend and came home raving about how great the burgers were, so we figured we better try it. She was right, great burgers and fries! The wait is a little longer then A fast food joint but well worth it. They also have hot dogs and salads if your not down with burgers. They have the coke machine where you can make any flavor combination you can think of, I love that. For desert they have real ice cream hand spun shakes who doesn't love that. Hubs and I went here on the recommendation of a friend. Both of us had a burger, and we also ordered the onion straws and their special Smash Fries. All the food was very good. The Smash Fries are seasoned with olive oil (although it tasted like regular vegetable oil), Rosemary and garlic. They were very good, but after eating four or five of them I wanted regular fries. Another burger chain variation has hit Columbia. One of the pluses is that you walk in and can pick up a menu at the door (as you order at the counter) and can choose what you want prior to ordering, so you're not standing at the register trying to decide what you want to eat and tie up those behind you. Food was OK, I had ordered their grilled chicken sandwich. Only complaint was that the chicken breast was bigger than the bun. Pricing was on the expensive side. In addition to the sandwhich, I had ordered a fountain drink, and my bill came to just over $9 - and I did not even order fries! Size of the location could be bigger, as this is by a busy area of town (the mall), but then again it's part of a strip mall, so I'm sure space is limited. Our to-go order was placed in the restaurant at 12:10. There was no one behind us in line for probably another 5 minutes. We were given cups to get our drinks. The guy was working on the ice for the soda machine so we weren't able to get our drinks. We waited about 15 mins. and I went up to ask about our order. They said they were waiting on the fries but the burgers were in the bag. I noticed other people were getting their orders and people eating in were being served. (Soda machine still not working). We had learned to love Smashburger back in NJ and then thought we'd lost them after moving. Then we found this restaurant on our regular drive down to Hilton Head and were very pleased. We've patronized this restaurant several times now and always leave full and happy. Smashburger really does offer an option that is a step above the normal fast food offerings - and it's still fast and easy. We usually get one of their big salads with a couple of the large burger patties. The salad items are fresh, tasty and generous and the burger patties are juicy and excellent quality. This makes for an outstanding, delicious and super healthy Low Carb High Fat option at basically fast food prices. As their name says, these are bona fide flat-top cooked/smashed patties with a nice crust and flavorful perfectly cooked interior. For typical burger fans, they have multiple delicious combinations and make-your-own with as many patties (in two sizes), chicken, etc as you like. They have the robot Coke machines for your soft drink needs and a decent selection of bottled beer but we always wish they had wine. They should consider adding some small individual bottles. This is a clean well-run restaurant with friendly quick service. Obviously a ton of burger choices are out there but I think Smashburger hits some unique high notes and gets the job done for us and this restaurant does a good job bringing their quality food and good service. read more

I've heard a lot about Smashburger, but this was my first time visiting. I'd bookmarked it and vowed to go by during any free time while in Columbia. I happened to stop by on my way to Greenville. Typically I don't do burger restaurants because they rarely have decent vegetarian options, but Smashburger had a highly touted Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger. I'd read good things about it and it didn't disappoint. It has plenty of all ingredients. Most importantly enough avocado to warrant the name. I love avocado and when it appears in a name, but there's very little to be found in the dish that irritates me. I had this burger to-go. They restaurant had plenty of seating inside and out. The inside was very spacious with tons of light coming in. I really liked the counter setup. It didn't seem like a barricade like many restaurants. My only disappointment was that there were no real dessert options. They only had milkshakes. I would have liked the option of a cookie or brownie. Overall, nice place. read more

I went to Smashburger a few days ago and the food was good. I really like the fries but the service sucks and that was what put me off. I had to go back and I tell them what I was missing. The employee I asked told the cooks and she went back talking to her friend in which was not an employee after she told the cook. I gave it time because I did work in the food service years ago but I had to get the manager to help me after he took care of all the customers in the line. By far my favorite Smashburger location. We've been to the Lexington location quite often, however, I work in Irmo. When I get hungry for a good burger, this is my first location. The staff is always so friendly and have always gone above and beyond for me. Even on days when I've been having a rough day at work, I leave with a smile.
