All our burgers were made wrong. My kids won't eat it, because kids like what they like. Mine was wrong missing pickle, onion, mustard, chose the burger and asked for the other things that didn't come with it added on. Comes with all these things and it still wasn't in it. What...??? My family and I went to Monterey for fun and decided to grab Smashburger across the street from our hotel. I saw the reviews but ignored them because use the kids wanted burgers. My wife ordered an Avocado double with no bun. We got a double with no bun but also no avocado and no cheese. That was disappointing but worse than that is when we called 3x nobody answered. This is one of the eateries near Century Marina Theaters and I came here with a friend for lunch after seeing Jumanji 2, which was hilarious by the way. There are Signature Burgers you can choose from or you can opt to Craft Your Own Burger, but that can get pretty pricey especially if you want a lot of toppings. There are also several options for meat: Regular beef, grilled chicken, crispy chicken, turkey, black bean, etc. The Monterey Bay Burger sounded really appetizing, as well as unique, consisting of artichoke pesto, grilled onions, tomato, spinach and mayo, but I was craving bacon and cheese, so ended up choosing the BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar Burger with crispy chicken. This burger also came with crispy haystack onions. I ordered the meal so it came with French fries and also got a peanut butter milkshake. After ordering, we were given a number, found a seat our food was brought to us when it was ready. My friend had gotten the Monterey Bay Burger and it looked delicious! I was a bit disappointed with mine because the chicken was a little tough and overall the combination of the crispy chicken and fried onions was quite dry. The fried onions were good though... Well seasoned. I did like the French fries a lot - They were skinny fries and wonderfully crispy and yummy. I loved the peanut butter milkshake, which which made with Reese's peanut butter sauce and came with whipped cream. The remainder of the milkshake that didn't fit in the cup was given to me in a silver container so it was a ton of milkshake, which was absolutely delicious! I want to be sensitive towards businesses and workers that have stepped up and actually worked during the covid pandemic but I have to be honest. This review has as much to do with their phone app as the food. As for the food. Cold fries. Overcooked burger. Seriously thin swiss cheese slice, why even bother? (I didn't think they put cheese on it so I looked and laughed out loud when I identified it) Tomato slice was tiny and the lettuce didn't look fresh. Onion was absent. Terrible overall. As for the app. Twice now the app failed us. A week ago we couldn't place an order on the app. We passed and had delicious PB&J at home. Today we placed an order and drove to the store. There is no tracking or way to know your order is ready. Forget calling from outside. If you call the store the recording gives a very long diatribe of options for purchasing and ordering along with appropriate covid warnings and store hours.... The recording goes on to say they're too busy to answer the phone. Except no customers were inside. Curbside service doesn't work if the app doesn't work and they won't answer the phone. The pics are - Smashburger's own representation of how much avocado should be provided, and also my personal experience of ordering avocado at this location when I ate in, and a photo I took of the $2 worth of avocado I received on my burger. Seriously. Whichever employee did this should be ashamed of themselves. It's not bad enough that CA prices at Smashburger for *everything* are at least 40% higher than most of the rest of the country, now when you pay those inflated prices you don't actually get what's advertised, or basically, any at all. If I could give zero stars, I would. 2 times now I ordered their "Cobb" salad and it has been a terrible experience. Both times, the website said "no red onions available at this site" so the order said 0 red onions. But both times, the salad came with many red onions on top. This time, though, the salad was even worse. The lettuce was wet, I thought it had dressing on it when I said no dressing. It also had soggy gross clumps of lettuce. There was no bacon, one of the main ingredients. The website ordering was difficult, I had to edit the order several times because it added option I didn't want, then it took off the options I had added. Even saying no dressing, I got 2 plastic containers of ranch, at least it was on the side, but it was wasted and added plastic to the trash. My husband took the salad back and asked for a refund and the manager was very rude, but finally reversed the charge.
