Not the best or worst burger place in town. Stopped in for lunch the other day when I was in the area. Ordered the BBQ Bacon burger and smash fries. They are tossed with seasoning and vinegar. Malt vinegar and fries is really good. These, not so much. Didn't have the vinegar bite I was hoping for. Not bad tho. Burger was pretty good. How can it not be with BBQ and bacon on it. Haggis would be tolerable with BBQ and bacon, well maybe not but you get my point...hehe. Greeted when I walked in. She took my order and said would take about 10 minutes for my order, actually took 5-6. Nice surprise. Big downer was the price. Almost $12 for burger, fries, and a drink. $8-10 maybe, but not worth $12. Good burgers, decent fries, over-priced in my opinion. Probably won't be going back because of the price. Cheers! read more

With my most recent visit, I wanted to see if this burger joint had any range and order a grilled chicken sandwich - Fresh Mex style. This decision taught me that it's called Smashburger for a reason, not Smashchicken. The chicken was actually a bit soggy and limp like it had been sauteed in a pan and sat there for too long or maybe even grilled earlier but microwaved to reheat, rather than having that just-grilled crisp on the outside. The iceberg lettuce was minimal and somewhat wilted. The chipotle mayo looked and tasted like regular mayo. And sadly, the restaurant had run out of sour cream by that time of day (around 2 p.m.). I've been to this location a few times since all the Groupons have been coming out. Service has always been really friendly and accommodating to me, and the burgers have been dependably satisfying. Also, the variety of bread, toppings and sauces make it easy not to get bored. Lesson learned: Stick with the burgers! read more

This was the first time I ever been to a Smashburger, and I was glad I came. I paid about 20 bucks for 2 big bacon cheeseburgers and smashfries which have some seasonings and rosemary on it, and it was great. My burger did have some tiny pink spots here and there but so small I could just pick it off. The customer service was excellent. Greeted upon entrance and the guy who took our order also came by and checked that our food was okay and then later came back and swooped up all of our trash. The burger itself was pretty decent but I feel like it had too much mustard. Probably just a preference thing. My only issues here were that my boyfriend noticed one of the male cooks using the FEMALE bathroom when the male bathroom was working just fine. That's beyond gross to me and made me not even want to use the bathroom. They were also out of sheet covers for the changing table in the bathroom so I had to lay down a heap of paper towels for my son. The bathrooms could use some cleaning. I would come back based off the customer service alone and the burger was pretty good. 3.5 stars overall. read more

It was my first time going to this place and the last. I had the Windy City burger. I took the first bite of it and all this extra juice just came out flowing through the side of my mouth, not to mention it was salty. Had the bbq bacon cheddar burger, sweet potato fries and a pop. A little pricey, $11 and change. Burger was a little underwhelming. My burger needs to be larger than the bun for it to be a great burger. It tasted just ok but just wasn't exciting to me. Sweet potato fries were delicious though. I honestly think it's better than Five Guys. I ordered the classic burger with sweet potato fries and a blue moon beer. My son ordered the hamburger kids meal. The hamburger is very juicy & tasty. The bun, an egg bun, is out of this world. My son kept raving about it. They also have a pretzel bun option that is only available in the midwest. It looked really good to try next time. They were offering samples of shakes and we got the vanilla one. Yummy! The menu also offers veggie frites that I want to also try when I go back. They offer, salads, chicken sandwiches and hotdogs. The beer is only 2.99 a bottle! My total bill came out to approx $14. It's not something to do every day, but once in a while it's a nice and fun treat for the family (like having a pizza night). Some like it...some like it not, I like it, because I like it hot!! Walk up to the counter, order your burger, they give you a number, take a seat and they bring it to you. My last 3 visits I've had the Baja Burger (with jalapenos), a 312 beer (in a frosted mug), and the fries. A bit o' grease does a body good every now and then. I read a few negative reviews about the service here, however, every time I visited we had attentive and prompt service. In fact, on one of my visits a biker buddy of mine and I showed up in leather "cuts," I swear we had visits from Seven of the employees, asking if we found the service satisfactory haha! So no complaints about the sometimes over enthusiastic service. Is it healthy food? No. However, grease this chain (restaurant) with your dollars on your next visit to downtown Oak Lawn. I enjoyed our visit to Smashburger. They staff was very knowledgable about the menu and we were greeted with smiles. The food was fresh, I got the Baja salad and it was a huge portion and tasty. The kids got the BBQ bacon cheeseburgers and they really enjoyed them. My son got the chocolate shake and it was enough to share. The smash fries and the veggie frites are delicious also. Last Friday I called a placed an order for Dark Lithuanian rye and bacon rolls. I live in California. The girl I spoke with took my order and when I asked her the charge she said they would call me on Monday as she didn't know at that time. I'm still waiting for that call. She did not take my credit care which I thought was strange. I should have known something was amiss. The girl I spoke to was named Monica. If they don't want your business why did they bother taking the order. I always ask what the charge will be on my credit card. I'm baffled by this. I like Smashburger though their prices are moderate or average for a regular restaurant, though technically they are a fast food joint. They have good medium sized to large hamburgers and other items on their menu. They have a kids menu, I ordered grilled cheese and fries, around.$6 and though the sandwich was small I enjoyed it. The place is clean, quiet when empty, average to loud noise level when crowded, debit/credit cards are accepted, dine in and carry out, bike parking nearby (Metra Station/Starbucks). My only complaint is that I was eating there when I saw an employee ask a mother and daughter to get up from their booth, he proceeded to lift up the booth seat and take out cups (though in plastic) from under the booth seat. The mother looked surprised. I thought it was odd and unsanitary. The place was busy and crowded, no one else noticed. Oaklawn, IL has no licensed or registered health inspector I heard. During this sheltering-in time, we were looking to try something new. We placed our order online, and I went in to pick it up while my husband waited in the car. On the way home, he cautioned me to not open the bag as he wasn't enjoying the aroma. When we arrived home, we discovered that they had given us Brussel sprouts rather than the Smash fries that we had ordered. That explained the funky smell! After walking the sprouts out to the trash, we ate our burgers. I think they were good, though the lingering odor affected our taste buds. Fuddrucker's is a 5; Five Guys is a 3; Smashburger is a 4. (They might be a 5 if they'd let you get your burger medium-rare.) The smashfries are delicious, topped with nothing but rosemary, olive oil, and salt. I got the spicy baja, and though they appear to have forgotten the jalapeno slices and the guacamole, it's just as well--it had a good kick to it anyway. Came here with my boyfriend for a late dinner following a wake. We've been meaning to stop by here for awhile but hadn't gotten around to it until now. I thought the food was decent for the price. I ordered the Windy City burger while he got a build your own. The Windy City was good. I thought the mustard was a little spicy for me (I mean it is spicy mustard!) but that's just me. I recommend it. The highlight of the mean was the chocolate peanut butter shake. It was ah-maz-ing. I would go there just for that! My boyfriend got fries with his meal that he seemed to like. I wasn't too crazy about them. They had an odd taste to them but it might of just been the seasoning he ordered. The two burgers, a fry, a drink and a shake came out to about $22. Everything here is excellent, but the price is really steep for 'fast-casual burgers' and I'm not overwhelmed by their burgers. I first experienced smashburger while I was on business in MN. I had the baja burger and immediately fell in love with it. The Smash fries with garlic and oil, are divine! The baja burger itself has the perfect mix of spicy and beefy. It is so satisfying. The best part is, you can customize any burger or chicken sandwich. I have only had their burgers but I will try the chicken and salads next time. Get a nutter butter shake after you are done. It is the perfect way to treat yourself every now and then. read more

Great! I would go back in a heartbeat. It was our first time visiting and we got the full experience. The food is fantastic, and not really that expensive. I got the Avocado Black Bean Burger and it was delicious. The staff was courteous and polite. They were constantly cleaning and turning down tables after guests left. They have a great selection of food and the shakes are out of this world. I couldn't pass up a butterfinger one. When they knew that my girlfriend and I were first time customers, they just threw coupons for free sides at us. I know their objective is to create return customers, but our next visit ought to be nearly free. I would definitely recommend trying Smashburger at the very least. I was actually looking forward to trying Smashburger out and when I saw them on groupon how could I resist. I'm glad I had a groupon and didn't spend full price for my meal! My rating is based on the chicken sandwich and fries alone. I'm not a red meat eater, so I can't judge the burgers. The chicken sandwich was actually VERY good. The fries were another story. I'm a fan of Smashburger. So, it's not my favorite burger by a long shot...but, my favorite burger is In 'n Out, so that's an unfair bar to set. As far as local Oak Lawn food goes, I prefer Smashburger to anything else in the area. I like the style. It reminds me of Steak and Shake but no long drive required, and the burgers are a bit fresher tasting. It is tons better than Five Guys in my opinion; burgers are a bit less greasy and the restaurant itself has less of a tiled-bathroom ambiance if you decide to eat in. I do think the prices are a tad bit too steep for what you get, though... read more

Recently stopped by SB with the family and we were pleased with the food. The wife had a smashburgee with egg and she was very pleased with her offering. I went for the build your chicken option and selected pretzel bread, Swiss cheese and mushrooms...it was a big hit. That pretzel bread is some good stuff. Frenchfries are just ok but nothing to get excited about and the prices are a higher than I like. My daughter gave the grilled cheese a thumbs up, but the fries that came with the kids meal are not good. I'll be back as that, pretzel bread/chicken/sauteed mushroom combination is worth the trip read more

We just ordered as a group from work, they got about 5 sandwiches missing from the bag - I knew it too when I went in and they said yep just two bags - that seemed a little light for a work order - no apologies - no freebies for anything - poor management - when I said what are you going to do - they refused to deliver their mistake they made and also had the nerve to say come back and we'll give you the burgers for free - hello - we already paid so of course it should be free - what about an additional person leaving work and driving several miles to come back a second time - and when my coworker did - no apologies and rude. Mayra the sales person is the best thing happening at this location. She explained everything to me as a first timer to make it an enjoyable experience. The burgers are tasty but the size is lacking! After ordering our food, we only received half of our order. We went up to check on it after 20 minutes of waiting and the employee was incredibly rude. "I'm not dealing with this" and "you're being incredibly rude" when it was the other way around. We talked to the manager who acted like he could care less.
