I don't usually give reviews; but Dr. Ra and his staff certainly deserve this recognition! Dr. Ra's incredible skill and his wonderful kind heart made a really tough situation more than tolerable. I have been battling Lyme disease, Mold toxicity and Metal toxicity for over a year. To say my body is sensitive to all sources of stress is an understatement. My doctors and I agreed that I was ready to go to the next step which meant removal of all my amalgams. All 4 quadrants of my mouth needed to be addressed - bridges, crowns and fillings. My first step was to find a qualified IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology) registered dentist. I also wanted to be sure my dentist would be willing to work closely with my doctors to help me minimize symptom flare ups. My dentist had to understand beyond a doubt that my priority at this time was my health. Dr. Ra filled the bill completely! As a registered IAOMT dentist, Dr. Ra has the knowledge and skill level to remove amalgams safely. He was more than willing to work with my doctors to ensure my health was not endangered. When I met with other dentists, I found they had a tough time staying focused on my overall health and I'd quickly find their quotes rising as they gave me their sales pitch for unnecessary cosmetic procedures. This was never a problem with Dr. Ra. In fact, Dr. Ra was quick to ask if I was detoxing and working with a doctor at our first meeting. He told me he was more than pleased to be a part of my journey back to health. After each procedure, Dr. Ra even called me, personally, to make certain I was doing well. Dr. Ra's Smile Studio office in Upland has state-of-the-art technology including an on-site lab that can create crowns while you wait. I'm not sure how they managed it; but the crowns and bridges they made were such a good match, I had a tough time pointing them out to my husband afterwards! Using this technology, Dr. Ra took the time to thoroughly explain each procedure and address any concerns I had during each visit prior to my procedure while his wonderful staff went out of their way to make me as comfortable as possible including setting me up with my favorite tv program and headphones. One of the most astonishing things about my amalgam removal was how quickly my health improved. A year ago, I was struggling to use my arms and legs and even to speak and think clearly. Depending on the point I was in my treatments, my body would react with joint pain, fatigue, clumsiness, Parkinsonian-like tremors, and brain fog (just to name a few). However, my biggest issue by far was the constant heaviness and pain I had in my neck and throat area. My treatments for Lyme and Mold resolved quite a few of my issues; but the neck and head heaviness and pain continued until my amalgam removals. It was absolutely incredible! Each removal felt like it lifted part of the heaviness away and lessened the pain substantially. By the end of my 4th quadrant removal, my pain had faded into a mild nagging ache. Now - just a week later - it's almost just a memory. My energy is up, my pain is down. The clumsiness and the other symptoms have also faded quite a bit. My only regret is that I didn't have them removed earlier. Dr. Ra and his staff made me feel comfortable and welcomed at all of my appointments from the minute I walked in the door until I left. Believe it or not, my amalgam removals at Dr. Ra's office were actually easier on me than my simple teeth cleaning at other dentist offices during the last few years. Although I found Dr. Ra for my specific amalgam removals, my husband and I plan on seeing Dr. Ra for all our future dental needs. The most important thing to know about this office is that Dr. Ra specializes in removal of mercury and other metal amalgam fillings. Metal fillings of any sort are bad practice (they can allow heavy metal like mercury to seep into your bloodstream and slowly poison you), and the are especially bad news when you are having them removed because as they cut the crown off, mercury vapor is released and if you inhale it you can have very serious consequences. The proper way to do the removal looks a lot like a haz mat scene - you will get a separate breathing supply, doctors will have gas masks on, and there will be a full rubber dam protecting your mouth and throat from the released mercury along with a high powered suction vacuum. Anything less than this for a filling removal is bad news. If you are having this done, my opinion is that Dr. Ra is the best in IE. As for the doctor himself, I would describe him as cautious, thorough and professional. He will take the time to explain things to you A to Z and his office schedules patients properly so that you have his full attention during a procedure. I was in a big rush to have my work done when I called, and they had my filling out by the end of the day on the day I called them. Office staff is polite and professional, billing was handled through insurance cleanly. Lastly, you can think of ths practice like the Whole Foods or Erewhon of dentistry--high quality, health conscious, not cheap but worth the money. Dr. Ra is a big believer of biosafe dentistry and his practice reflects his level of OCD around this, which is a good thing. You can of course have your dental work done at the Corner Store if you like, but then you might end up like I did with 10+ years of slow mercury poisoning from an irresponsible filling. Downstream consequences of mercury poisoning for me included fatigue, dehydration, headaches, memory and cognition issues, back pain, alcohol sensitivity and sinus problems. All of these were gone after the filling was removed and I had chelation therapy to get the mercury out of my tissues. Long story short, Dr. Ra is a pro in mercury filling removals and I expect you will find him responsible, trustworthy and transparent. p.s. If you require chelation after your mercury removal like I did, I recommend Dr. Allen Green as he is similarly professional and thorough with getting the mercury out of your body after the amalgam source is removed. This is called chelation and is typically done with IVs and use of agents like DMPS and DMSA. read more

The Staff from the first phone call was amazing!! Once in office they were even better! Melissa and Jacky are very Friendly, Their Insurance Biller Elaine is extremely knowledgeable when it came down to my insurance the Office Manager Vanessa went out of her way to explain everything. Friendly, helpful and well spoken! She went over my bill line by line and explained everything! The Dr. ran on time! ( not what I'm used to at the dentist) The x-rays are a great digital image and 80-90% less radiation that conventional! (Yes! Thank you!) he suggested an inlay in place of a crown which would be more conservative and save more of my tooth, but then upon inspection he gave me the amazing news that the decay wasn't as bad as expected and he could actually do 2 composite fillings instead! He saved me $1,000 and my two teeth from crowns!!! I have NEVER had a downgrade of work at the dentist. It's always been... "Sorry but you need 500 things fixed!" His work is fast and he got the bite to feel great, right away! He is also easy to talk to and he really listens and doesn't make you feel dumb. I have been seeing a holistic m.d. For over 10 years now as the conventional path of medicine I had been on, left much to be desired and it was no different with my conventional dental journey. At 32: A religious flosser (haven't missed A night in 12 years! Seriously) & brusher (sonicare) as well as dental appts every 4 months for cleanings and a healthy eater it just wasn't making sense to me that my dentist was suggesting a 3rd crown. I was so upset to hear this especially since this tooth was closer to the front. I am so happy I got a second opinion and that I was able to avoid a crown and save $. I am so happy I found someone who isn't drill happy and wants to conserve my teeth and is concerned with my overall health as well! It's also really awesome that he uses non-toxic options for filling materials and ozonated water to sterilize teeth instead of a bleach solution. I highly recommend!!! If I could give six stars I would. Going to the dentist is never something I look forward to. On this occasion I was in for a crown of top of a fresh root canal two days earlier. I was already sore and knew I was in for more of the same. Dr. Ra does a great job of prepping the site, and building the crown through his cool looking high tech tools. It is very comforting to know your dentist takes a great deal of pride in his work. I'm the type that is very tense in the chair, and Dr. Ra has a way to calm that feeling with his professional attitude and calm confidence. The entire staff is helpful and friendly. This office is a great place to go to when you have to go to the dentist. I had to get an extraction and my teeth cleaned. First off my hygienist Nicolette was super gentle on me. I had no pain with my cleaning. She also taught me things on how to take care of my teeth better. Some things other hygienists have never taught me. Dr. Ra was very easy and smooth when he needed to extract my two teeth. I had no pain after the surgery like I thought I would. I grew up in Upland and even though I'm living in LA now, I always make the drive to go to Dr. Ra. He's an amazing dentist and is always so kind and patient with me. I have a bit of dental phobia and he's always so gentle and understanding. No matter whether I need to have something minor done or if I need more serious dental work he is always amazing. As others have said, the Smile Studio staff is really good at making you feel comfortable while you wait/during your appointment. I think that's really important, especially if you're someone who gets nervous. They even had a Starbucks coffee machine in the waiting room which I thought was a really nice touch. For someone who has anxiety when going to dentist it's really important that they walk you through everything, not only were they super friendly, helpful but extreme patience with me.
