AVOID DR. STEVEN ROTH AT ALL COSTS!! Do not trust the unbelievable uptick (10+ in a month is unrealistic) in positive generic reviews that are clearly incentivized, and appear on Google over the past year, that are being run by a hired Social & Digital Community Manager. Yelp has the honest, negative reviews, in which most had a similar bad experience as me. are I first saw Dr. Roth two years ago based on positive reviews -- a decision I've regretted ever since. On my very first visit, he told me I needed four crowns -- not one or two, but four -- at $4,200 each. This was alarming given that my previous dentist, who I'd been seeing regularly for cleanings and exams, had never mentioned a single crown was needed. Against my better judgment, I agreed to one crown. Once in the chair, I was convinced to do two (because the teeth were next to each other) and was reminded of a "cash discount" -- $4,000 each -- if I paid in cash rather than credit card. This felt questionable, but I trusted them as professionals. I paid $8,000 in cash. During that visit, I was also told I needed to see his partner for additional work -- another $2,000. One of the crowns he placed caused ongoing pain whenever I chewed for over a year and a half. I returned to his office repeatedly for bite adjustments, which eventually caused issues on the other side of my mouth. Finally, he referred me to an Endodontist (another $600) who confirmed the problem wasn't the root -- it was likely the crown. Dr. Roth refused to acknowledge that possibility. Eventually, I saw another dentist who not only confirmed the crown was the likely culprit, but also stated the two other crowns Dr. Roth recommended were completely unnecessary. That dentist charged $3,800 for a NEW crown (on a credit card, no "cash discount" gimmick) and came highly recommended by trusted friends. However, I decided to wait -- but six months later, the ever-present problematic crown Dr. Roth placed fell out. My new dentist confirmed the reason it fell out, and likely the cause of the 1.5 years of pain when I chewed was that it had been improperly placed from the start. For context: Dr. Roth also quoted me $10,000 for 6 months of Invisalign. I later went to Dr. Goodman (a #1 Invisalign provider) for the exact treatment-- and paid $5,200. Once Dr. Roth learned I went elsewhere, his demeanor noticeably shifted. Bottom line: in my experience, Dr. Roth over-treats, overcharges, improperly places crowns, and pushes unnecessary work. His refusal to take accountability for faulty dental work left me in pain for over a year, thousands of dollars lighter, and still needing to fix his mistakes. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HIM. read more

I went to another dentist AND a specialist in TMJ for a second opinion because I was still having problems with my jaw after treatment here. They basically scammed me. Dr. Chase said that my jaw was in severe pain because my teeth weren't straight, so convinced me to get Invisiline. The new dentist was actually professional and referred me to a TMJ specialist, who said that not only was Dr. Chase's reasoning bullsh*t, but the Invisiline was actually making my jaw pain worse. The actual diagnosis was arthritis in my jaw with 3D x-rays to prove it. Another way they scammed me was that Dr. Chase insisted I needed a cleaning every 3 months because my teeth were "so bad" and they would all "fall out", needing dentures. My new dentist assured me my teeth were actually fine, I brush well, and took the more reasonable and insurance covered approach of cleanings every 6 months. Truly BEWARE of this place. read more

Dr. Steven Roth has been my dentist for over 20 years. I can not give enough wonderful, amazing compliments to him as well as his outstanding team in the office. I always call him the "Picasso" of teeth as he is a perfectionist with making sure you have 100% excellent care, including follow-up phone calls, consultations and office visits. His office team and Dr. Timothy Chase consistently share his same work ethic. Each visit is so professional with everyone making you feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible, soothing music, immaculately clean office and most important for me is that everyone has a smile and a fabulous sense of humor! Even completing my visit with Lorita at the end of my appointment is always so organized. She is always so professional, friendly and consistently sweet and understanding when discussing the finances. I am aghast at some of the the recent reviews for Dr. Steven Roth. My experience with Dr. Roth, was professional with high integrity throughout the time spent on my cosmetic dental work as well as general dentistry from 2015-to present. This included general repair of past dental work, and the best teeth cleaning I have ever experienced. The reviews in Jan 2018 and Feb 2018 are surprising in their intensity, which should be alarming to the reader as the reviewers showed no photos of the "bad work" they allegedly received. I had a bite issue, the fix: a simple return visit to fix it and it was fine after that. All my upper teeth were changed and replaced in three visits. They are not the cheapest dental office in Manhattan, however, I would say in my 20+ years while living in Manhattan, they were the most consistent. Oh, where do I begin? Steven Roth destroyed my health/life/mouth back in 2010. He saw he could take advantage of me, and he scammed the hell out of me! He claimed I had gnarly decay under my silver amalgams, LIE!!! He showed me a gnarly picture of someone else's decay, stating that is what was occurring under my silver amalgams. He took X-rays at the time, and it has been confirmed by 10 plus dentists and specialist that ALL dental work was unnecessary!! He placed a crown, caused a root canal with careless work on a tooth that didn't even have a cavity, placed large amounts of gold in my mouth when told it would only be a speck, he shaved down all rear molars which have caused my front teeth to only hit and become loose (spent thousands on retainers and now need braces so I won't lose teeth), the list goes on and on!!!!' Obscenely overpriced. I was charged $7,000 for 2 crowns and some gum work and they only offered that deal contingent upon me paying cash. A few years later, one of the teeth that they put the crown on loosened. When I went back to see them to get it checked out, they made it out that it was my fault for not taking care of my teeth and took no responsibility for the situation. They then recommended I come back to get an implant and 2 new crowns for $14,000. SCAM ALERT!!! DO NOT GET TREATED HERE!!!! They will scam you and have you get work done that you don't need!!!! I went to Dr. Roth since my dad used to get treated by another doctor in that office that he liked, that no longer works there. Unfortunately I had blind trust in this doctor; I wish I could turn the clock back. He started out by telling me that I would need two crowns on my teeth since I had decay on them and I didn't question him and got it done. When I went back he told me more of my teeth needed crowns. Every time I went back he found more stuff to do. I don't know why he didn't tell me right away that all my teeth need work, shouldn't he see that from the beginning? Story doesn't end here. The crowns were awful, my bite was off and he made me come back a lot of times to adjust the bite. My bite still isn't right. On one of my teeth, it feels like he dumped a giant piece of filling or whatever it's called, it's just round with no edges. It feels like one giant blob of filling. I can't believe I was so naive as to trust him like that. What bothers me the most is that I don't have my real teeth anymore. The crazy thing is my entire family was treated by him and a few of my siblings said they had to get an abnormal amount of work done on their teeth. We requested for them to send us our x-rays so we could go for a second opinion and they refused and got into a huge fight with us. It was an insane story. Bottom line, DO NOT GET TREATED BY DR. SMILES, NY IS A GIANT RIP OFF My 24 yr old son went to Dr Roth last year at my suggestion. They told him he needed 11 crowns and 7 or so half crowns, whatever that is. They also said it would cost around $37,000! I instructed them only to do the deep cleaning and not to touch his teeth in any other way. At the time, none of my son's teeth hurt. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, one tooth did hurt and he went back to them. They said they tried to call me, I find that to be false since I always have my phone and they could have left a message. They did manage to reach me after they did the pre work on two teeth. At that point I felt I had no choice but to tell them to go ahead. He couldn't walk around with drilled out teeth! They charged $11,000 for two crowns! Going to the dentist was never considered fun as a kid, an adult or when making jokes. I have never experienced the level of service from dentists as I have from the doctors, hygenists, assistants and front desk from any previous dental office. The office, bathroom and treatment rooms are exceptionally clean and give me the feeling all will be sanitary with my experience. This is important when dealing with bacteria and the like. I was referred to the practice as I was visiting New York on business and a tooth had flared up. I needed attention and they handled me like family. My wait in the lobby was only 6 minutes. He botched the reconstruction of my mouth resulting in terrible jaw and muscle pain which I have suffered with for over 9 months under his care. Frustrated, I made a change.
