I don't normally leave reviews, but this time I feel it's essential. The technicians were knowledgeable answered all questions. However, the office they gave me a quote which was reasonable. They asked for 50% down which it was no problem and then after the work was half done, they sent me an unauthorized charge on the quote and expect pay. The saying is when you get a quote that is what the customer is to pay if the company goes over shame on them, if it's under good for them. So please watch your last statement. I hired Smiley Electric for two straightforward jobs in my condo: 1. Replace a GFCI breaker and inspect a bathroom light fixture 1. Install a single wafer light fixture Their invoice showed over 4 hours of labor billed beyond the service call, which is far more than industry averages for these tasks (most electricians I consulted, including my own family member who is licensed,say these should take 1-1.5 hours each). I repeatedly asked in writing for a clear, detailed explanation of what caused the work to take so much longer than normal. They refused to provide any written justification, instead insisting on a phone call. I made it clear I wanted everything documented in writing for clarity and transparency. While these discussions were still ongoing and unresolved, they ran my credit card for the full amount without my authorization. This was after I had been responsive and clear that the billing was in dispute. I chose Smiley Electric because of their high Google rating, but my experience matches the lower Yelp rating. Based on how my concerns were dismissed, the lack of transparency, and the unauthorized charge, I cannot recommend this company. read more

I had a new furnace installed and the guys from Smiley Electric were there early getting ready before the furnace even guys came. They did a great job. Because of this I asked them to do more work including troubleshooting some outlets I have and also to add a generator switch to my breaker board so I can switch the main house power to the generator during blackouts. Josh of smiley electric hired a subcontractor to do all the digging. The guy doing the digging told me when the job was done Josh refused to show up, check the work and make payment. The digging guy then proceeds to fill in the trench yelling about how Josh refused to pay. And in the process broke a main water line and destroyed a french drain line. The digging guy said and I quote, "he said he would be here all day. I talked to (Josh) and he said earlier he'd show to make payment. So f*** (Josh). This is what he gets." read more

Prompt. Efficient. Fair. Our heaters stopped working this month and because it's an older home we weren't completely sure if it was an electrical issue or a faulty thermostat. I was very pleased with Smileys service and work. Communication: emails and phone calls were promptly responded to. When a previous job took longer Josh called to let me know he'd be late. He was clear on what I needed to provide and what he would bring. He sent an email quote laying out the work we had discussed. Very professional! Work: Josh did an efficient job, being careful of my stuff (in a furnished bedroom). He was clear about what he could and couldn't do. I have a pristine 1979 ceiling in which I wanted an overhead light. Josh was clear that he would have to see if he could put in an overhead light fixture without major cutting of the ceiling. He let me know that he could do it with just a cut for the hole for the fixture and it came out perfectly! I had some complicated switch issues which we discussed. He misunderstood (and I did too) on what could be done without major cutting into walls. His set up ended up not being what I wanted but when I realized and explained, he quickly fixed the problem to my satisfaction on the spot. We now need county inspection which he will come to, to make sure all is good. The work is guaranteed for 1 year. Cost: I think the cost was reasonable based on some other quotes from other companies. It may have been a bit higher but well worth it for quality and timeliness of service.
