I experience moderate discomfort during routine dental visits, and his team always goes above and beyond to ensure that I'm comfortable throughout my visit. My former dentist would fault me for this: "you dont floss enough or brush thoroughly..etc" was their reason for my consistent discomfort. At this clinic, I experience none of that. You're uncomfortable? Okay we'll numb you- no more pain and leaving in a bad mood after treatment. I am always greeted very kindly by the girls up front and my hygienist. Hearing everyone talk and laugh frequently with Dr. Mercado goes to show that it's a healthy work environment and enjoyable place to work. The front office staff were welcoming, attentive, and genuinely seemed to care about their patients. I originally came in for an Invisalign and wisdom teeth consultation, and I ended up leaving with two wisdom teeth extracted, my next Invisalign appointment scheduled, and a payment plan set up all in a single visit. The technology they use is impressive. One of the coolest parts was seeing an AI-generated preview of what my teeth could look like after Invisalign treatment. Everyone in the back office was friendly and professional as well. As for the doctor, he was awesome, personable, funny, and able to keep me relaxed with jokes when appropriate. At the same time, he was honest, knowledgeable, and focused on what would be best for me in the long run. I was extremely nervous about trying a new dentist, but the team at Stonebrook Dental made me feel comfortable from the moment I walked in. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist in the Sacramento area. Five stars all the way.

In addition, my spouse needed a periodontal teeth cleaning fall of 2024, but the dental practice had no one at all doing teeth cleaning for months so my spouse had to find another dentist for teeth cleaning and his dental condition got worse and now needs another crown instead of a filling. My spouse is in the early stage of dementia and I had explained that to the office Manager, Deanie many times. In the past, Deanie was always helpful and understood the situation and communicated well with me about appointments and treatment in the past. My spouse has needed an extraction and a crown since mid summer 2024 but didn't have any dental benefits remaining, and no pain, so he chose to wait for 2025 so that insurance coverage of $2,000 would be available. My spouse went to Adams Dental Associates for periodontal cleaning 1-9-2025. Deanie asked me to join my spouse when he was done with the cleaning to discuss a treatment plan for extraction of #16 and crown on #15 and sign release forms. Even though I'm an extremently busy person, I went to Adams Dental Associates Office. While my spouse was getting his teeth cleaned, I received a call from Deanie asking if my spouse had taken 2000 mg of amoxicillin earlier today. This was the 1st I'd heard of this requirement. I said no, he took 500 mg of amoxicillin earlier today for a urinary tract infection. Dealing with this wasted another hour of my time and I have no time to waste. Later Deanie explained the 2000 mg of amoxicillin is requirement by medical profession when the patient had joint surgery recently. So I called my spouse's orthopedic surgeon's office who said the amoxicillin is not needed today since the knee replacement was 5 weeks ago. I informed Deanie and that seemed to be ok. When I went to Adams Dental Associates office to discuss the treatment plan, I was presented with detailed consent forms, 7 pages. The consent forms said: Describe treatment & reason for treatment, yet no reason was identified. The form said "I, patient's name, have discussed the treatment with my dentist and have had the following issues answered to my satisfaction". My spouse had many questions so we circled items and wrote ?s on the items that needed more discussion. When my spouse understood and agreed to the Item, he wrote his initials to indicate approval. But most of the items we had questions. I did not know if my spouse had received the info and forgot, or if the info was never provided. We provided the forms to Deanie and said we had questions. Deanie took us to a treatment room. She told my spouse to sit in the treatment chair and for me to sit in the corner in a chair so we did. Dr. Adams joined us. He said there is a 3rd tooth that needs a crown now. #14. Dr. Adams became irritated that I was not looking at a monitor above my head and told me to get up and look at the monitor. I had never been in that office before and I had no idea there was a monitor above my head. Dr. Adams said he needed another xray and left the room. Deanie returned and indicated all was done. I said we still have questions about items on the consent forms. Deanie said ok. Dr. Adams returned to the treatment room. He asked what are the questions. The 1st item on the form was finances and I know the office handles that, so I did not bring it up with Dr. Adams. The 2nd item was about post operative instructions and need for follow up care. Dr. Adams said the forms should be completed on the day of procedure. I explained that Deanie asked me to come to the office to discuss the treatment plan today. Dr. Adams looked right at me with a very mean stare, and said this is crazy. I said in a very respectful tone, I agree this is crazy because the form is asking randy to agree he's fully informed and he is not. Dr. Adams told the Office Manager, Deanie, she should be able to answer the questions. She said you are the dentist. Then Dr. Adams looked at me with a mean facial expression and said get another dentist. He became more verbally abusive and disrespectful in his communication. All because we wanted to understand the procedures, why they are needed, the risks, alternatives and consequences of not doing the procedures as the forms indicated. I told Dr. Adams that it is very unethical to ask a patient to sign a consent form when the patient nor I do not fully understand the items on the consent form. I felt that Dr. Adams was treating me in a demeaning and disrespectful manner. It appears to me he is refusing to understand my spouse is in early dementia and I'm there to help my spouse and the dental practice so that my spouse can get the care he needs asap and the dental practice has the consent they need. Now we have to find another dentist and start all over.

I was seen in February for an exam, X-rays, photographs, scans, and treatment planning. After receiving a costly treatment plan, I called to ask whether treatment could be broken into phases because I could not afford everything at once. I was told I would get a call back after she consulted the doctor. I never received a response. Over the following months, I made multiple attempts to obtain information about my treatment plan, requested callbacks, and requested copies of my records. I was repeatedly told someone would contact me or my requested information would be emailed to me that day and neither happened. Most recently, I called and was told someone would call me back yet again. When I asked whether they even had my contact information to do so, the receptionist responded, "Oh, no," and then asked for my phone number. When I asked for an estimated return call time or when I should call back if I still had not heard back, I was told 30-40 minutes. An hour had passed before I had to call them again. When I called again and explained that I would be coming into the office in person because I was tired of being ignored and wanted a complete copy of my records. I was again told that someone would need to call me back. I explained that I had already been told that and had not received a call. I then asked the receptionist to confirm the office closing time was 6:30. Her response was, "I think so." When I asked her to verify when the office actually closed, I was placed on hold. Miraculously, within moments, the person I had been waiting to hear from all day suddenly became available and took over the call. During that conversation, I was told that updated estimates had been submitted to my insurance and that treatment would need to be phased anyway due to insurance limitations. This was information I had been trying to obtain for months. I explained that at this point I was not calling about estimates. I was calling because I wanted my complete medical records. I was then told that nobody else in the office would know how to obtain my records and that I should wait until the next day. After months of unanswered questions, no callbacks, and failed follow-up, I declined and stated that I would still be coming in person. Only then was I told that my records could be emailed "right away." Nearly an hour later, I finally received an email containing what appeared to be a copy-and-pasted chart note and embedded images of my X-rays. Despite specifically requesting a complete copy of my records, the materials sent were incomplete. The chart note references photographs, scans, treatment planning information, and communications that were not included in what I received. Even more concerning, the chart note indicates that information regarding treatment options was emailed to me after my appointment. I have never received any such communication from this office after my February visit. My biggest issue is not the diagnosis or treatment recommendations. It is the complete lack of communication, follow-through, accountability, and customer service. Every question, callback request, records request, and clarification required repeated effort on my part. At no point did I feel that anyone was proactively trying to help me. At this point I will be obtaining my records in person, filing a complaint with my insurance, and seeking care elsewhere. Patients should not have to spend months chasing basic information about their own treatment, insurance estimates, and medical records. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this office.
