My fiance and I have adopted a miniature schnauzer and poodle that we take from Burbank to Smith Kennels for boarding and grooming. Our dogs are both rescues and have very special needs. We have been turned away from other groomers because of how difficult our dogs can be. But Darcel and Joyce have always welcomed us with open arms. They do such an amazing job with our pets. They treat use like family. We have been going to them for 2 years and we will not go any other place. We have boarded our little ones during our international travels without any hesitation. This is the first time I have used this Kennel. I was super pleased with how my Lab was taken care of. I have 2 friends who use This Kennel on a regular basis and have also been super pleased. I brought my dog here because our regular kennel was booked up. It was a 3 day stay with grooming on the last day. This is my experience, take it as you will. When i dropped off my dog happy and healthy. everything seemed fine and clean. I gave the owner instructions on feeding and how i wanted him groomed. I never signed anything, no contract or anything. I never heard from them and figured everything was okay as with my usual kennel i have never had a problem.. Well when i picked my dog up after they told me he was done being groomed and ready to be picked up, I noticed he was not his normal happy, jumping, excited self. I noticed his back feet were wet but figured it was from the kennel or cage after grooming, also he was very lethargic and stressed. The owner of the kennel then told me she had noticed he may have something wrong with his left back foot, and he wouldnt let her shave or do anything with the foot. So i paid, and left , and all the way home he was quiet, not barking. by the time we got home, he couldnt even jump out of the car. I noticed the foot she mentioned,was swollen. it was double the size of the other paws. and it was all wet and dirty. he laid down licking his foot didnt even want to get up.. mind you, this is a 10 month old dog that is usually full of energy. so i called the kennel and i mentioned he is not walking, his foot is swollen, he was in alot of pain, and i was taking him to the vet. she just said okay, good idea and saying she had no idea what it could be. the vet didnt really know what was wrong only that there was swelling, and pain. nothing broken, but what it looked like and i KNOW is that his back foot had to be stuck in the kennel drain and it was stuck for a long time especially due to the fact that he was starving and thirsty. he hobbled straight to the food bowl and water. . that has to be what happened due to the swelling and poop and junk he had stuck in between his toes on that foot. Basically he has burnt pads and its very raw and tender, has been swollen and he is not himself. . I will not bring my dog back here and have already started spreading the word. The kennel could have at least called and checked on his status especially knowing she noticed his problem with his foot. Also i believe his burns came from the chemicals they use like bleach and that he was not watched or checked on for long periods of time or this would not have happened. And when i dropped him off she had ME put him in a nice long kennel and wheni picked him up he was in a different run. I was a very loyal customer to Smith Kennels for at least 7 or 8 years. If I went on vacation my dogs were boarded at Smith Kennels. The last time I boarded them my dogs came home covered in ticks. I called Smith kennels to advise them thinking they will hopefully right the wrong. All I got was sorry that happened to you. Didn't even offer a tick bath or a partial refund! There was no way I could ever bring my dogs back to them. read more

Did a drop by visit to this kennel a couple of weeks prior to needing their service. The owner Mrs Nagel showed me the premises and different types of shelters for the dogs. While I was there there was a worker cleaning the pens. The place was full of small dogs and larger dogs. Quite noisy with all the barking but that's what dogs do. Lol. I was impressed with the size of pens and shade provided by large trees. The temps would be in 90's while away so shade was very important. I stopped by a couple of days prior to dropping off my pet to fill out the paperwork and provide a copy of my pets up to date shot records. I noticed again a worker outside working around the pens. I decided to house my dog in the pen that also an inside room if the sun or weather got bad he could go inside for shelter. When I dropped off my pet I provided his own bed and plastic container of his food and treats with written instructions on how much to feed him. The lady that checked him in was very friendly and assured us he would do fine. I called once during the 9 days he was there to check in on him and was assured he was doing good and to call anytime. Since we were getting back from our trip after closing hours they were ok with our friend (listed on their form as emergency contact) to pick him up so we'd have him home when we arrived. He was happy to see us and he seemed the same as before we dropped him off. So thank you Smith Kennels. If we need your services again we will feel confident he will be well taken care of. read more

Smith Kennels is an excellent place to leave your pets. When we are out of town working there is no other place we will trust to leave our beloved animals. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful. The dogs are well taken care of and loved. I am glad that I discovered smith kennels and will only use them and recommend them in the future. read more

I took our 2 year old lab to Smith Kennels after visiting with family in Palmdale on our way to San Diego. When we returned to pick her up she was shaking, her ears where all matted, and she had soars from scratching. I will never leave a pet at this facility again. I should have pulled our dog out of there the moment they tossed her dog bed out in the kennel outside, which was probably better then the inside kennels. They looked horrible. This place really should be shut down. read more

I left my two maltese and a yorkie for two days while my daughter got married. When I picked the dogs up their paws were yellow from urine and one maltese had dried urine and feces all over his left side. The bedding I left for them was so disgusting I had to throw it away and purchase new beds for them. I would never leave my dogs there again. My normal kennel was unfortunately full and this was a second and terribly bad choice. read more
