2nd Home sincerely is my dog's 2nd home! I met Joe 5 years ago and have never needed to look elsewhere for boarding. My now 6 yr old pittie loves it so much that every time we're getting ready to drop him off at 2nd Home, we ask, "Do you want to go see Joe?" and he immediately runs to the garage, ready to hop into the truck, tail wagging a mile a minute! And when I return from a trip to pick him up, he hesitates getting back into the truck because he wants to stay longer. This makes my dog-mama heart so happy because I know my pup is well taken care of and comfortable. Depending on your dog's needs, Joe can accommodate with kennels, runs, or wide-open property spaces. Since mine gets along well with the others, he has the ability to run around and play-wrestle and snuggle with everyone. Joe's also communicative about how the stay is going. When your dog is more than a pet and is a member of your family, this matters so much. As I've gotten to know Joe over the years, it's also been amazing to see his team's dedication to rescuing dogs and helping foster them or find suitable fosters and adoptive homes. The ONLY place I trust to board my dog!! I have been taking my dog to 2nd Home for day care and boarding for four years, and every time we turn onto Joe's road she gets so excited. She loves going there to hang out with her dog friends and always comes home happy and tired. Joe is a true "dog person" and he has devoted his life to them. It's clear that he really cares about dogs and understands their individual needs and personalities. I am a very anxious dog owner, and I always feel confident that Joe will take care of my precious pup like she was his own. I also like that it's a smaller facility so my dog gets personalized care and attention. I don't think my dog could handle one of the bigger boarding facilities, but she loves going to 2nd Home. I've boarded my dog with Joe for over a dozen short and long trips over the past few years. My dog is a large breed and he is reactive/protective. So obviously leaving him with someone is not a small thing. I am thankful beyond words that I found Joe. Over the years he's built a real bond with my dog. It is clear from all of our interactions, that Joe is deeply committed to the welfare of my dog and all other dogs in his care. In the beginning my dog was fearful to be left at a strange place. This of course is to be expected. Now, when I drop him off, he runs in to Joe's house and doesn't even spare a look back. Knowing my dog feels safe and comfortable is truly a blessing. He treats every dog in his care with the love and respect he gives his own dogs, and their happiness and well-being are of the utmost importance to him. Sometimes you have to leave your fur-babies behind because not everyone wants your dogs at a wedding! (who are these people?) My dogs have been to 2nd Home Dog Boarding a few times with Joe and probably had more fun than I did! Harli & Wade have had so much fun that they come home happy and tired. I am well assured that are loved and taken care of. Also, when they need to escape the trauma of local fireworks, this location is perfect! Negative stars. What an absolutely abhorrent experience trying to talk to the owner about a dog's stay. Rude doesn't even begin to describe it. The owner can be all cute about being 'Oscar the grouch' all they want- but the fact is your dog is not safe with someone with this level of animosity and rage. I take my dog Arnold here and he absolutely loves it! Joe and his wife love having him as well which is so comforting. It is such a good feeling knowing that your dog is happy and that the people watching him really care about him. They treat him like their own and that is what makes them unique to other dog boarding facilities. Joe admittedly said that he may not be much of a people person, but he is most DEFINITELY a dog person which is all that matters. And I like the guy!! Ha. This review is long overdue. I I had been looking for a place I could take my newest puppy Baci. I was really looking for somewhere he could interact with other dogs. I had gone to about three other places and it was restrictive because they didn't have dogs interact with each other. Came to Second Home and it was perfect! Joe was amazing! My Baci loved his time there! He was able to interact with all of Joe's dogs and he did really well with them! Joe's awesome!! Also, when I was initially setting up my appointments in providing paperwork. I was doing a lot of running around with errands. I happen to have my cat in the car we had gone to the vet. It was a hot day so I left the door open. Not thinking at all that my cat would even be remotely able to escape from him her carrier. Drove off and then just check the carrier and she wasn't there! Turned around and turned out she had escaped and crawled under one of the buildings on his lot. It took hours to finally capture her! She ran up a tree and he went OVER and BEYOND helping me to get her. Luckily no other dogs or wild animals had gotten to her! read more

I have a Jack Russell Terrier. She lovable but also very active. I haven't had much luck with with any other boarding facilities in SCV. Joe was recommended and doesn't disappoint. He loves dogs! We even received a couple of photos of our dog during the week along with a voicemail letting us know she was having a great time and had a new dog friend. Really put us at ease. I trusted these people with he care of my baby. Everything was great until my return date had to be changed. He was cruel yelling at me to figure it out! I was afraid for my dogs safety as he had me in tears freaking out. Instead of being at all helpful he was cruel, heartless and yelling at me. I found another kennel close that I found out often worked with this place and she was confused as to why he didn't recommend her. It was suggested he had a bad day and took it out on me!!! My husband and I had a last-minute business trip he heard about 2nd home, come to find out later it has changed hands as the owner is retiring and has passed it off to a jerk. We did not see the one star review dropped out dogs off off everything seemed to be fine. Upon arriving back from our trip we noticed that our dogs were headshy and melancholy. The owner was bitter and short with me which made me feel that my dogs may have been miss treated. I chose to bite my tongue and keep it to myself. I can sense the man has anger issues and someone with anger issues should not be watching people's pets. The choice is yours but do not pick this dog kennel. 3 weeks later my dogs are still headshy God bless! They are our best friends read more
