Used a Groupon on mothers day for myself, my mother (duh) and my brother. We have never shot bows before so first time for all. Place is a little difficult to find - Google will take you to the front of the building and parking lot. You can park there and walk around or you can drive down and make a two right hand turns to park in front of the entrance. When we arrived Greg gave us a safety lesson and a quick how to for beginners. We were lucky that we were the only ones but it seems that Greg would be giving the same kind of hands on attention regardless of group size. This place is awesome! I've been coming here for almost 5 months now. Came in as a new archer with no idea how to shoot or where to start. Now I'm comfortable shooting and am a weekly visitor. From day one, the staff has been friendly and extremely helpful. They make you feel like part of the family; offering up tips and advice whenever possible. I've always felt comfortable with the crew and have a great time coming in to practice. I've been taking private lessons once a week with Jared (owner and professional archery coach). He is arguably one of the best coaches in the state and really cares about his students and customers. When I was finally ready to purchase my own bow, he walked me through the best options for my interests and set up all the accessories (including a year of free range time). The best part is Dave, at the repair & maintenance side of the store, will help with any adjustments and little tweaks you have in exchange for a good laugh and tips appreciate! Long story short... The team at Smith Point Archery are experts at what they do and welcome new and experienced archers. If you want one of the best Archery ranges and pro shops in Long Island, look no further. Give it a shot (pun intended). My recommendation for new beginner archers... do yourself a favor and take a private lesson. I see other reviews mentioning the groupon, but I think it's worth a lesson to understand and practice the correct form. You'll appreciate the sport more and have a better feel if archery is right for you. My recommendation for experienced archers... they have plenty of lanes, have leagues every season I believe (I'll join a league soon enough!), and have all the best quality equipment and gear. read more

Needed something different and saw their deal on groupon and very glad we went. It was our first experience with a bow, the instructor went over the basics and range rules then off we were. Friendly guys and the instructor was a cool everyday guy who gave just enough instruction and enough space so you get your feet wet. Saw some bad reviews on here but don't let them scare you off everyone has off days. We already have plans to go back and will let likely buy bows from them to take advantage of free shooting for a year with bow purchase they offer. read more

Had a Groupon for 2 people, 1 hr of range time. Purchased it for my boyfriend for his birthday. We went together with a friend and when we first got there we were VERY skeptical. From the outside it looks like a hole in the wall. It's just a door leading into a basement... But looks can be deceiving! We were met inside by an elderly gentleman (wish I could remember his name) and he set us up at the range, and helped us learn how to aim. He was very sweet. There were two other people shooting while we were there, a father and son. It looked like the kid's first time and the gentleman employee was really good with the kid, even putting up balloons for him to shoot at instead of just the target. We had an 8pm appointment, and he let us stay until almost 9:30pm. We had a ton of fun and I've already purchased another groupon to go back! read more

Recently bought my first compound bow here. Dustin was extremely thorough and generous with his time in helping to choose and set up my bow. He had it built the next day and then took the time to show me how to properly shoot it and choose the right release. It's clear he's very passionate about archery and what he does and I'm 100% satisfied with his service and guidance in choosing my bow. I've since been back several times to shoot (free year of shooting with a bow purchase!), the staff is all very friendly and personable -- all remember my name and have offered pointers here and there when I go to shoot. I have used them in the past. Took lessons and used GROUPONS. I would give them 4 stars (don't like the musty, moldy smell because they are in the basement which may be an issue to sensitive noses) but took two stars off because of a recent incident that I wanted to make people aware of. I had an expired GROUPON. I went to the store (preCOVID) and was told I could not use the GROUPON for merchandise only range time and even though it was expired they would honor it as if it hadn't. Well, COVID happened and I understand things have changed but when I tried to set up range time I was told I could not. PERIOD! Mind you they advertise Adult Group Lessons which I receive emails for among others lessons so it's not an issue of COVID Safety. I asked if I could use it for merchandise and was told no. I could not speak with a manager nor the store owner and was not able to leave my name/number for someone to call me back. I could try back another day and see if I could catch the owner when he was in. So, basically I was out the money spent on the GROUPON. So, this is to let others know that you have a GROUPON don't expect to be using it any time soon, if ever, and don't expect to be able to use the money spent. Lose/Lose situation IMO. Such a shame that this is the business practice they've adopted. read more

This place is a hole in the ground, pretty literally. It is on the side of a shopping center, so it was not terribly easy to find. Then you walk in and you feel like you are in the wrong place, like you don't belong there or that this was someone's practical joke on you. You go down some old hallway and down some steps and you just see two painted steel doors. I figured I saw a sign so I must be in the right place so I opened the door, even though it was not apparent where I should go. So when I walked in first thing I see is a taxidermy bear and deer- ahhhh! Then I see a counter with two older gentlemen shooting the shit, ask them where I go with a groupon for shooting. They directed me and I had to wait for some more people to arrive and the lesson to start. Though my initial feeling of this place was a creepy/ fish out of water vibe (these are mostly good ole hunting boys and I am a animal loving liberal) that feeling disappeared over time. The old man giving the archery lessons was kind and generous giving hints and getting everyone excited about this new- found hobby, He answered any and ALL questions I had and was more than happy to do so. I could tell how excited he was to share his passion. This place gets four stars for the instruction and for the fact that after I was done I felt like I wanted to be Katniss Everdeen! So even though it is an odd and ugly hole in the ground, the people and their knowledge and passion make it a rare gem. read more

Don't bother coming with a groupon for beginner classes, they overbooked, there was 2 people for every target and didn't have their normal instructor but went on with it anyway. Very unsatisfactory, C&B Archery was much more beginner friendly. read more

During the summer I purchased a groupon for my daughter (9) and myself, we waited till the groupon had almost expired before we redeemed it, I had shot before many years ago at high school, but was rusty to say the least. The instructor was great, we shot for an hour or so, had a class of about 10 people, we were taught shooting safety, form and had fun. So much so that a couple of days later I bought bows for both my daughter and myself, I have been going back a few time per week, my daughter a little less often as she has many other activities. The staff are all great, very nice with my daughter when she take a break and walks around asking questions. Buying a bow includes a year of use of the range, we only pay for the paper targets and can go any time the range is open. I will renew my membership there for sure. The other archers range from beginners to expert hunters, everyone is friendly, helpful and free with useful advice on how to improve. I have been shooting olympic style but plan on getting a compound bow and will be training there before the next hunting season. read more

Non existent customer service. Owner literally ignored us, party of four, too busy talking to a friend I'm guessing. The friend actually stopped him and said I think these people want you. Two weeks prior another family member brought my son for archery. The owner said $15, ok he walked away and another man came over to set up my son. The $15 was laying on counter and this man said no it's only $5, he's under 10. Now I bring three children under 10, two weeks later, the owner states it's $25 each. Well what is it? $5, $15, $25?? Shady, unprofessional, will never go there again. You are treated like they can't be bothered. If they treated their customers correctly and consistently, especially the charges, then this business would not receive negative reviews. Simple. read more

Recently purchased a compound bow for hunting and archery for my son's 16th birthday. We visited other shops on LI, but once we entered Smith Point Archery, we were initially impressed with products in the shop, the selection of bows, and the many lanes for archery. Then we met Dustin and he worked with my son in a very courteous and professional manner to select a bow that was best for him and that was within our price range. Dustin showed us three bows and spent most of the afternoon working with my son and answered all our questions. My son selected the PSE Bow Madness Epix and was thrilled. Dustin provided expert advice on accessories that were included in the package and on others that we read in reviews. When we went to pick up the bow a few days later, Dustin spent about an hour working with my son to fine tune the bow. We are also very happy with PSE, the quality of the bow and their excellent customer service.
