A coworker recommended Smith Thompson when I got a new house. I scheduled an appointment that same week. They called when they were close to my house. The service person was able to use the existing alarm system in the house installed by the builder. He was quick and efficient. They charge for the entire year up front but say the service is month to month and if you cancel before the year is up they will refund the rest of your money. Good with Monitoring, but disappointed with the mobile app. I was with Smith Thompson since last 3 years. Happy with Monitoring, but their Remote app is not good. Was using the Uplink Remote app since past 3 years, worked about 75-80% of the time. I reported the issue to see, if they can fix it to perfection. They tried other devices, but couldn't get it working. I requested to install the old device back so that at least it works 75-80%, they mentioned that they dont have a way to install the old device back. Unfortunately I ended up with no remote app at all which is pathetic. Services with AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint is pathetic in our area (Sugarland, TX); but Verizon is really good; but for some reason Smith Thompson Verizon devices doesn't work either. But devices with all other providers works well with Verizon, I wish Smith Thomson has better devices (or) at least have a way to give Uplink Remote device back; so that we can control the device remotely. Unfortunately, I have to start searching for a new provider now, just because of this issue. read more

Smith-Thompson is A-1 in customer service and response. I have accidentally set off my alarm a couple of times, and within FIVE SECONDS, I had a call from the company wanting to know if I was okay. I feel very safe, and the system is so easy to use. The technican Shawn was able to set up monitoring using the existing system in my home, and was very thorough in showing me how to use it. Don't let them sell you the wireless feature before checking the reviews for their HC Flex app that operates it. App is a simple on/off switch without the ability to place system in "stay" mode. App and system don't fully sync. While standing in house at control panel, I disarmed system. App continued to show as armed. App completely quit communicating while out of town. Called tech and was told I'd have to be home to troubleshoot. Called tech back when got home and, I kid you not, was told to delete the app and reinstall, something I'd already done multiple times. When that didn't work, I was told I'd have to wait for service tech to come out and given a four hour window. Nice troubleshooting. read more

I had Smith Thompson Home Security installed in my home in Feb 2019 in Frisco area. Here is what I think about them so far- 1.Not pushy for buying their services. Though, their sales team should be more polite rather than just sounding crisp and stern. 2.Technician was knowledgeable and on time for installation. He was pro but I expected little more lively attitude. 3. Customer service staff is prompt and helpful 4. The two downside: Their equipment(About $89...I guess) for wireless monitoring is proprietary and can't be used shall you decide to switch the provider later. You'll have to give them written notice one month in advance if you decide to cancel their services. read more

For the security system and monitoring, I have had few issues. The smart thermostat and training provided by customer support leaves area for improvement. Super unhappy with the new smart thermostat and Smith Thompson customer service. The thermostats were installed 2 months ago and when we turned on the heat two nights ago, they appeared to be working. However, now that the house is 59 degrees and dropping, I have found out that they have a malfunction and in fact are not working. The Smith Thompson tech can not come out for another 24 hours to diagnose and fix their "malfunction". It would be helpful to have your techs teach the home owner about the smart thermostat more thoroughly, so that the home owner knows how to self-diagnose a malfunction. I was told there is no error light or way to know it is not working on the home owners end. Smith Thompson can see on their end that an error occurred but they do not notify the home owner or proactively address the error. Smith Thompson waits until the home owners calls them. Smith Thompson should reimburse for the HVAC trip charge or provide a credit on the account for this expense. At the very least, they should provide better tech and home owner training around smart homes. read more

We have had a great experience, and have had no issues with the system or with customer service. My first home, first time having an alarm system and my husband & I are very pleased!! We were referred by friends in the same neighborhood. The initial call was easy. I received great customer service, & it is VERY affordable compared to the others in our area!! The guy was very patient and thoroughly explained my options. They called & asked if they could come earlier than scheduled which was perfect!! We had 3 windows that were not wired & they didn't charge for a 2nd install call (appt has to be made w/I 30 days of 1st install) The monitoring system is great!! Most of the feedback focused on great service and pricing. I gave them a call and the experience was very positive from the beginning. I appreciate the fact that they are willing to use existing equipment instead of automatically saying you need to upgrade replace everything. Their monthly fee for monitoring is definitely the most reasonable when compared to all local and national providers. Be very careful of their up sale scam, they try to quote a 1996 law for smoke detectors in every room for new homes saying that because I only had one perfectly legal smoke detector they wouldn't take my service over without putting a smoke detector in every room. When I called him on it he admitted it is just their company policy it's not the law it's not required by any local ordinance it's simply Smith Thompson. They never mention this on the phone even though they knew I had a smoke detector. read more

I got my Smith Thompson Security system replaced back in August 2016. I never heard anything from them when the battery was disconnected. No alarm went off, No calls from the monitoring company. I got a UGLY collection call in January saying they were turning me over to collections. I told them I had the service removed and had not heard from them until now and that I have replaced their system. These people are Crooks! They demanded that I pay them for services while another company was providing me quality Security and Monitoring services. I had always paid them in 3 month payments usually a couple months ahead so I was never past due. I told the lady I spoke with that since she is threatening to ruin my credit I will may the $79.50 in 10 equal payments over 10 months. This EPITAMY of a Customer Service/Collections person says then we wont have to ruin your credit over $79. I would not mind paying for my security system if 1) they had good monitoring - The entire time I had the system, you could not have told me that I didn't have a reliable system until the new company simply unplugged the battery and no one was the wiser. What are they monitoring? 2) How are you still billing me for this crock? O I guess you did it for 3 years under the pretense that I had a Security system! Take my advise and get a REAL security system. I don't want a system that someone can simply unplug without my monitoring company taking notice! BUYER BEWARE!!!!! read more

I was with Cornerstone Alarm (Tomball, TX) for over 6 years and found out that because of changes by the phone service, the type of transmitter installed by the alarm company was no longer supported and therefore was no longer sending signals. I've had a pretty rugged history with the last security company that handled both my home and business both from a competency side and exorbitant service charge cost . I was referred to STS by someone else on yelp complaining about them as I had. I called Smith Thompson, super straight forward on the phone and scheduled my appointment. The gentleman came out on time and was the kind of person you would trust to come in an evaluate your system. Quickly identified a sensor problem and replaced. One of my backup batteries didn't test well and he replaced that free of charge as a courtesy for taking over the account. Went through the whole system and found several things that could just be done better-walked through programming and we were done. That was 3 weeks ago and I could not be happier.
