I was expecting some exceptional services after referral from my uncle and all these "great" Yelp reviews. Don't get me wrong, workers from the office were helpful and attentive. And it seems like it is an isolated case with the technician. The office ended fixing the problems promptly. 1) first setup appointment was supposed to be from 1-3 pm. I called at 3 to check when they were going to come, Chris from the office told me within 30minutes(330). Later on, the technician (Carlos) called me with his phone said he will be late but "only" call him if I have any issues and not to call the office. Of course, he did not show up until5. He came in the house, "explained"all the paper by pointing out where and where to signs that's all. No explanation whatsoever! I wasn't even know there was a permit needed until I read it later on my own. He didn't Allow me to have time to read over and say let's get going just sign and initials on those blanks. He yelled from upstair and expected me to bring the paper for him so he can show me where to put referral name/number after I asked him. What's worst? Told him that none of the window sensors worked. He then said it's just old, you can use the hammer and try to fix it on your own. He left with 1/3 of the alarm system worked. And half of the time, he was on his phone speaking in Spanish. I had to ask questions 2+ times to get his attention. What the heck? Is this really a joke? I really have to point out.. I had a dinner at 530 that day. I waited at home from 1230-5 for him to be late. He had to show me his attitude and leftthis system not work? What a waste of my time seriously! And of course, they don't think our time is valuable. read more

We just replaced our national expensive outdated security system with Smith Thompson Security. Every contact we made with sales, support and finally the installation technician was friendly and helpful. Our old DSC system was usable and up-gradable to the new technology. We added cameras as well. Total monthly cost for this new improved security was about half of what we were paying out to the old national company. Installation was seamless and technician was knowledgeable. I got doors/windows and motion detector. I wished the technician confirmed that the motioned detector worked; I did it myself. I had to get an existing DSC (green screen) system working in our house. Smith Thompson clearly knew the system well and set it up with no problem. Later, when I had trouble adjusting the time on the keypad because of daylight savings, I emailed for help. The tech responded within hours clarifying for me how to program these older devices, which is a strange process, but that's not on Smith Thompson. Total pros - didn't try to upsell anything. Well, I could go through the details of what happened (basically, I was told via phone by their tech that they don't call when alarms are set off if the code is entered, AND that "industry standard" is to wait up to 2 minutes before calling even then. Also had a tech basically skip out on me when I was on the way home from work to meet him, and, all totalled, they just aren't worth the cheap monitoring fee. They need to invest in the ability to do better. However... all you have to do is read Mark Thompson's replies to the negative posts to get a clear idea of the general attitude of the company. Easy and convenient. The alarm has actually been set off once at 2:30 a.m. due to some crazy wind and they called within the minute to make sure we were okay. Great company, great service and great prices. I called Smith Thompson because I heard an advertisement and liked the price structure with no contract required. They came out and upgraded my keypads and re-connected all of my window and door sensors. They could not connect the fire alarms because they said that my house is not up to code with the number of fire alarms. So I purchased some standalone fire alarms for all of the necessary places and then they came back at no additional costs and connected my two hard wired alarms. I feel so secure knowing that they are monitoring my home for break-ins and fire 24 hours a day. read more

I have used Smith Thompson when I first bought my house in 2005. Perfectly satisfied. I stopped for a few years. I restarted my service with Smith Thompson. Now Smith Thompson has outsourced their field and tech support. It is not the same local customer oriented company as before. They try to rip you off for service calls and issues with their system. Telling you when you they show up there is a charge to fix your alarm system to work on thier service. Smith Thomson charges you to sign up on their service. None of this happened before. The savings are not there or the support local business feeling anymore. Your not saving any time or fristratiGo with the big corporate giant like ADT. Smith Thompson is no longer has the hometown care like before. This guy is a complete liar. They charged us to reprogram our system when we disconnected the phone line. We called again today and said that our door is being replaced. We need someone to move the contact to the new door. Smith Thompson stated it would be $59 plus $15 the connector. The owner is flat out liar. It is cheaper for me to switch than have Smith Thompson to come out and fix it. read more

Mine keeping going out, and the tech team has stated that the software isnt the best and want to switch me out with with the old school keypad. Old company and old technology. And customer service is lacking, as other reviewers stated...they always blame you. They don't take suggestions. They refuse to cancel your service and will continue to charge you and then tell you that you didn't cancel. Don't be deceived by the cheap price....you get what you pay for....cheap service and cheap customer service. The team and their services have both been great so far. The installer came within the window that they mentioned, and he called ahead when he was on his way. He was very quick with his setup work and he showed me how everything worked. He didn't even mind when I asked a dozen questions! He told me about some other things I could purchase but was absolutely NOT pushy at all when I said 'no'. And when we accidentally set off the alarm, the woman who called to see what happened was as nice as can be! They are very affordable and they don't lock you into a crazy contract either. I've had our system installed for only a short period of time, but so far I'm really impressed. The technician came early, was friendly, very knowledgable and answered all my questions. He even gave me pointers to make our home more secure. In the week and a half that we've had the system we've accidentally set it off four times. I'm not proud of that, but we're still getting used to having one. Each time we received a phone call within a minute or less from the dispatchers. Thankfully they haven't given up on us yet! The price point is great and installation was fairly cheap as well. So far the price and customer service far surpasses what I've read about other security companies. I highly recommend! read more

The day after I wrote my initial review, I got a very nasty message from who I can only assume is the business owner, as it was from "Mark S. T". it reads as follows: "Now you have two problems. You have no alarm service since you're too much of a flake to pay your bills (a mighty small bill too with us) and now you get to pay an attorney thousands just to answer the lawsuit that's coming your way. When you get a second, google what happens to people when they post ridiculous and totally inaccurate reviews. And trust me, we are dead serious. Flakes like you are everywhere and think the world owes them everything. Unfortunately there are millions like you walking among us! You see, it's real simple, just pay your bills lady!" I guess Mark doesn't realize that the anti-SLAPP laws enacted in Texas a few years ago actually protect me from lawsuits like the one he is threatening. Every person I talked to and the things that were said can be backed up by phone records, (since Colin said they record conversations), and can be used as evidence to back up what the exchanges were in my review, which actually makes it "accurate" . With regards to my statements about the people I spoke to, and that I believe that they have lousy customer service...those are my opinions, which are very much protected by these anti-SLAPP statutes, as well. As far as Mark thinking that I believe the world owes me everything, this is a highly generalized statement. I originally called only with the intent to see if they would work with me on my reconnect fee. I stated to Colin that I had no problem paying the service fee that I owed them, so where he gets this statement is beyond me. The personal insults? I will let them speak for themselves. To stoop to the level of insulting people...that says more about the person doing the insulting than the one being insulted, in my humble opinion. So I've had this company for ten years and they have been great until now. Their service technician was horrible. "James" he did a half fast job and left me with mess on the floor and left me with his remaining clutter for me to toss away. He installed the new upgrade but some how used the old system.. I wish I can upload pics through here but he gives me some bs excuse that these new sensors are better when they are waaaay bigger than the old ones and he places them in very noticeable areas... just lazy on his behalf... he didn't even try to hide the main wire it's all connected to.. very poor servíce. So far I'm really impressed. Tech was able to arrive early to my appointment so he called first and that helped a lot (got to leave work a little earlier)! He fixed some broken areas of my house's old system and even figured out a weird problem from a previous technician who had done something wrong. He also gave me the run down on extra equipment and actually told me what was BEST for my house vs what would have been a bigger sale for the company. I did end up adding $250 of additional sensors anyway. Overall was very thorough and professional, and even had interesting stories of break ins and what would have stopped the thieves. However with no contracts, The guy was professional, he was helpful and personable when setting everything up, the price matched what we were quoted. We had a great experience with Smith Thompson recently for our home in downtown Houston! I was referred to Smith Thompson by a friend after expressing frustration with some of the larger brands that lock you into a 3 year contract. We called to inquire about the most cost-effective way to hook up a our legacy Brinks system and have it monitored. Smith Thompson was the only company we talked to that didn't try to sell us on unnecessary equipment and lock us into an expensive 3-year contract. The team that came to install the new system was friendly, helpful, and timely. Our system works perfectly and the keypad is really easy to use. We moved our monitoring from ADT to Smith Thompson about five years ago. They sent a tech out to install a new main panel, two keypads and a wireless transmitter. In the five years, we may have inadvertently set the alarm off 3 or 4 times. Recently, I inadvertently set the alarm off, and I waited for the phone call. None came, so I called and asked them if they had received the message that the alarm had gone off. The lady told me that we didn't have service with them. She got someone else on the line who told me that our service had been discontinued in January because we had not paid the quarterly bill. She said they had sent two notices. No phone call, mind you, no certified mail letter, just some note in the file that they had sent two letters --- neither which I received. So we had been without service for 4 months. And then I noticed that the hard wired smoke/fire alarm in the kitchen had never gone off before. I emailed and asked about it, and they said they had no record that our two smoke detectors had ever been hooked up to their service. Then Mr. Thompson called and said maybe it was hooked up and maybe it wasn't. He didn't know. I asked if he would send a tech out to verify that the system had been properly installed before I had it turned back on. Of course they would, he said, but they want to charge me for the call.. They are disinterested. So, we will look elsewhere. But it probably makes sense if you have service with Smith Thompson or any other alarm service to set the thing off every now and then to see if they respond; otherwise, it's Pollyanna Security. I miss Alert Alarms in Galveston who we used on multiple properties over about 30 years. They were always on the ball. read more

I've moved several times and have chosen Smith Thompson as my security company at each location. Each time I moved, they kept their appointment to the letter, and were extremely helpful in answering any questions I had about the service, or the technology that they use. Their response time is incredible. I've set my alarm off before, and some of my relatives or house sitters have. The technician was able to hook up the system with the existing keypad and wiring in my townhouse that was built in the early 2000s. Was going to use their system to replace another company's system. Got a quote, had them come out to install, but then they found they needed as different transformer. They rescheduled me for installation 2 weeks out. Guess what, they were a no-show. Called them back and they could not find anything other than the quote. Offered to reschedule another 2 weeks out.
