We had a wonderful experience at the Burlington Smithfield's! We had just dropped our daughter off and college and were on the way home. Ayden Starke was so attentive and just a joy to be around. We appreciated him! The manager on duty Mr. Nuguyen was awesome as well. He took time to see we had everything we needed as well. Compliements to chef Cheyenne Blouin as the food was delicious...we even went back and ordered more hushpuppies! Tori and Yasmin were there helping out too! Since we were already in the neighborhood, grabbing a burger at the newly opened Freddy's, we stopped by here to grab some BBQ & Fried Chicken for later. This was our first time at this location in the Alamance Crossing Shopping Center, and everything was pretty much the same as all the Smithfield spots - very good food, pretty solid service, and reasonable pricing. The Pork BBQ is is pretty good Eastern NC style (wish it were chopped, not pulled - it so screws up the texture), the Fried Chicken is one of my favorites, the FFs are awesome, and their Chicken Tender Sandwich is so sweet. Now, if they only had a decent Hot Dog, and dropped the sugar level in the Slaw. read more

Located among all the chaos at Alamance Crossing, it's easy to see from the interstate, but kinda hidden when you try to find it, on a dead end rd back behind the Burger King which is on the main drag. This is a super nice location, just opened a couple weeks ago, still got that fresh new smell to it. Smithfield is one of my favorite places for BBQ & some pretty great fried chicken & chicken tenders. The food is as good here as any of the other Smithfield locations I have been to. I am giving Smithfield's 4 stars although I wasn't in the mood for anything on the menu. I finally settled on the banana pudding. It was pretty good. It was not overly too sweet, a little different than what I have at home, but good nonetheless. What Happened to SCNB? I travel a lot between the Triad and the Triangle and I always planned my meal around stopping in Mebane at SCNB. Then one day, I see that they are building another store in the Alamance Shopping Center, Yippee! This is closer to home and I can frequent it more. There are a lot of things to like about SCNB; from the hand wash sinks in the dining room to the southern greetings upon entry. The BBQ is ok, but I really like the chicken (tenders are pretty big), pups, fries, and the stew. As for the staff, they are some of the friendliest folks in the county. Note: the sauce is a thin, tangy, vinegar based fare. I personally would not recommend for chicken, but they do offer their version of BBQ chicken. On my first visit, I was not as impressed as I am with the store in Mebane. On the second trip, I had a takeout order and got home and it was incomplete (they did compensate on a later visit). On my recent visit, the family and I ordered a tailgate special. When we sit and wait for the food, they tell us they are out of breast and offer to substitute them for legs (where they do that at?) we opt out of that crappy deal and waited for the breast :o( For some reason it seems that the chicken pieces have gotten way smaller than in the past and this store seems to consistently overcook it. I like SCNB and I will continue to be a patron, just not this location. read more

We were visiting and thought we would try North Carolina BBQ. We're from Texas so we know good BBQ. This isn't it. Where are the ribs, sausage and brisket They had pulled pork and friend chicken. First time eating here, Visiting from AZ (my dad lives in NC) Mr. Waldo was amazing! Very helpful, friendly, efficient! The service we received from him (we were a party of nine) was five star! He went above and beyond! My brother went up for a refill and Mr. Waldo was sitting down eating/on his break and got up and refilled my brothers drink! The food came out hot and fresh. Baked beans tasted old and thick and gross. The "potato salad", the potatoes were not cooked thoroughly and it was watery and YUCKY! AND the sweet tea tasted like they marinated a cigarette in it. I started going here when they opened. The barbecue is great. When they first opened the portions were good too, which is the reason I started getting barbecue sandwiches here instead of the Burlington landmark Hershey's Barbecue. Over the past several months I felt the sandwiches were being shorted on the barbecue. Today I stopped by to get my teenage son a plate. He asked for a large plate. I asked the difference and they informed me the regular has 6 oz and the large has 8 oz. I paid the extra $1.20 we drove off and as my son opened it he said this is 8 oz.? I said if you want to eat the sides and not touch the barbecue we can weigh it in just a few minutes at home. We went home and weighed the serving. It was 5 1/8 oz! Not only did we not get our extra 2 oz we barely got over 5!! So we basically got a little over half of what we paid for!! So let this be a warning that their eyeball scoops of barbecue are way off and of course it's on the short side. The banana pudding is also the worst in town. I wouldn't give them 0 stars or just 1 because the cue is great as is their beans and potato salad so despite not getting what you pay for at least the food is great. read more

On the way home to Lincolnton, NC yesterday from Durham. Have eaten at several Smithfield BBQ restraurants over the years and have always enjoyed them. I got a pint of barbecue to bring home since I already had slaw and buns at home. Made 5 nice fat sandwiches out of the pint. I am 65 years old and eaten a lot of barbecue over the years, but NEVER as good as what I eat yesterday. Moist, very favorable, and the best I have ever eaten. Disclaimer: Brisket is the only BBQ! However, having lived in NC for 36yrs I do like pork bbq IF it is smoked well. I cannot say that about Smithfield. I doubt they even smoke the meat and not sure it's a butt or shoulder. My plate had a lump of soggy flavorless goo. No bark in the meat and no bite in the sauce. The slaw was yellow! WTH? This is NC and we eat bbq slaw with pork not yellow stuff. Banana pudding was definitely not made in house. We couldn't even finish it split 3 ways it was so bad. Very clean restaurant; very friendly staff and good food. I like that this place serves up authentic barbecue quickly and at a very fair price without the typical fast food joint atmosphere. They'll also give my 1.5 year old a balloon which makes eating out a little more bearable. (Keeps 'em occupied!) read more
