Needed a smog last minute, they took me in at 9am. I went into the office and it was decorated nicely. Very clean and modestly spacious. It didn't take long, felt like maybe 15 minutes or so and I was out there. Before I left I was chatting it up with the owner Dennis about the business world and a fun locations to visit nearby as I'm still somewhat new to the area. This guy is a joke! Unprofessional, late, inconsiderate of your time and doesn't care about customers! Pretends to be on your side but will turn on a dime and stab you in the back! I used to take my cars for smog at his place but I will never go to him again because he pretends to be friendly until you find out he is not. He will not pass you and will charge you again if you have to fix your car. First off I would like to say that SMOG Pros is no longer located on China Lake Blvd, instead they are located on 300 W. Ridgecrest Blvd. So that was a bit confusing when trying to find their location. However, the SMOG test was done quickly and efficiently. The owner helped me get my car ready for the SMOG test by running a pre test to verify everything was good to go which provided great peace of mind. Overall very good service and respectful. Would recommend that you update your address one Google and Apple Maps though. Also, it seems to be under new management which is great as I heard bad stories about the shop from locals. read more

Super fast. Easy to get (& change) appointment to earlier. Waiting room decent. The guy identified a current & future issue with my sticker on my hood after an accident. They had changed the hood but not the sticker. It could have been an "automatic fail." Made recommendation to get a new sticker. I went to Toyota for the emission's sticker change & they called to clarify. The guy there explained what I needed. I also really like their logo inside. A great experience. My car literally blew up on my way home from Mammoth. After towing my car to the recommended mechanic, they were too busy to help me. My car then got towed to Smog Pros. The diagnosis was not good but predictable. The Corolla had to be put out to pasture. I was sad, but relieved that the very frustrating ordeal I had to deal with a 150 miles away from home was finally over. I thought I had thoroughly checked my car for anything valuable, but half way home I realized that I had left my key-charm my children had given me for Father's Day. This almost put me over the edge. Car dies, and now this . . . I called Smog Pros and the owner said no problem in mailing the charm. To my relief the charm arrived a few weeks later. I am giving Smog Pros 5 Stars for being true to their word. They had nothing to gain by mailing the charm except being true to their word and helping out a stranger. Polite. Took way longer than I was told, (by 3 hours) test drive fee is 80 bucks. Prepare to pay it if your car has a check engine light. Credit card machine was down. Had to go to ATM and pay in cash. More wasting of the customer's time. Low price on the smog check, but if you need work done, it's mid- to higher- priced in my opinion. Go get it done in LA if you can, but I know most can't if they're trying to get registered down the street at the DMV. My check engine light was cleared, and I passed. Then it came back on for a malfunctioning O2 sensor 5 miles after I drove it away, which was a completely new problem. Grrr. May just be coincidence, but I don't think so since they must have removed it while the cat converter was being replaced. read more

These morons didn't even fix the issue, they forgot to re connect a hose. Went to fill the vehicle with gas, imagine my surprise when gas starts pouring out the bottom of the vehicle? charged me 3 hours for a job that only took them 2 to do. I said to the owner " didn't it only take two hours?" His reply was " well you're getting charged for 3" his excuse was that two people worked on my vehicle so it got done quicker. But if It only took two hours(closer to 1.5hrs) why are you charging me for 3?.... They also overcharged me for a new fuel pump, they charged $245 for a new fuel pump for a 1998 dodge caravan. Google it, they should be $50 MAX. I work out of town and had to be home tonight and they were the only shop that was able to fix it today. I told them so and they definitely took advantage of it. I recently went to Smog Pros for the required biennial smog inspection on our 2002 Astro Van. I thought I would try them since they had the lowest quote for a smog check and the van has always passed. However, it did not pass this time because my "service engine light" was on and that requires reading the computer codes and diagnosing the problem further (I found out). The result of this computer check and a "smoke test" was that it needed a gas cap and an evap vent valve. I was quoted $25.00 for the gas cap and $138.91 for the evap vent valve (NOT including labor). So I went to O'Reily Auto parts and purchased the gas cap for $12.00. They were not able to quote a price for the evap vent valve because that description did not match up with their computer. I then supplied my own gas cap to Smog Pros and approved Smog Pros to replace the other, but I instructed them that I wanted all the old parts. Now having the actual part in hand, I went back to O'Reily and was quoted $22.91. However, believing that mechanics do business with NAPA, I went there next where they quoted $25.24 with a "list price" of $40.90. BTW, the proper name for the part is canister vent solenoid. I have just gone back to Smog Pros where I spoke with the owner, Dennis. I showed him what I had found and I asked if there was an error in what I was charged and that I felt $40 would have been a reasonable. He responded that there was no error and that he charged me his list price. He also stated that I should have shopped around first before I approved the work. I explained that I realize that but I want a relationship in my business dealings based on trust. Well, he said that "the prices (at the auto supply places) go up and down and they have been coming down" ..."I can't make any money that way." Lowest price but worst service. They were nice enough to take me as a drive in late in the day, but when an hour went by with frenetic running back and forth btw my car and their computer terminal the guy failed my car on two counts. One of which was completely erroneous, one valid. When I asked him if he could fix it right then and there, the answer was no since there were TWO things wrong he would not. It would have taken 5 mins and he could have charged me 15 - I would have been happy with that. That kind of business ethic leads me to take my business elsewhere next time. UNSAT. read more

Brought my car in for a smog, and got charged nearly $600 after it failed, to install a new computer. I later found out the old computer was fine, and that the junkyard they got the 'new' computer from only charged them $40. Expensive lesson. Avoid at all costs.. read more

I was warned over and over do not go to smog pros. And I didn't listen. The owner seemed nice and trustworthy. Well. He fixed my car then tried to charge me 56 dollars just to put in new battery I said no I will have it done.... Which I had a mechanic friend install it...it's a dam battery for Pete's sake....then my car started acting up again the next day! I called and they said oh we didn't install the battery so nothing they could do. Everyone just said ...told you so..... Wow I thought I had found somewhere in r/c that was trustworthy. This place has a sign that says that retests are $10.00. I asked him how come I was being charged $45.00 and he said that it was only if they had worked on my car. This is not the only place in Ridgecrest where you can get a smoke check for that price. Ignoring the other accurate negative reviews was a mistake I will not make again! read more

This place is horrible! I brought my car here for some minor engine work, took them a month to even look at my car. 2 more months to order parts (they said they ordered the wrong parts twice). 2 more months of having my car, they said they got my car "running" but couldn't keep it running (it ran fine when I brought it here). A couple of weeks later I got a call saying the alternator and my coolant temp sensor were bad! I had just replaced my sensor less than a year ago. By this time I had enough of their crap and took my car home to find out the sensor was unplugged, it wasn't bad at all! A total of 6 months I got nothing but BS from these guys. I get there at 1:55pm and I'm first in line, the lady at the desk smiles and takes my paperwork and info only to say "oh, he (the mechanic) has to go get parts, (like she didn't know that 5 min ago) we have a 2:45 and a 3:00 available, so I figure I'm already there, so I wait and at 3:00 I'm leaving, but the lady tells me to pull my car into the bay as the mechanic is just at the light and will be here in less than a minute. After 7 minutes he does get there, it's now 3:07. There are now what appears to be other customers in the lobby, but when the receptionist tells them to "get their bitch-asses back there" I knew they were his friends... When they left at 3:30 I went outside and noticed he (the mechanic with the ponytail hanging off his chin, Dennis Terwilleger ) had just started my test now that his friends had left. Okay, so I complain to the lady up front and she is well rehearsed telling people how it can take longer depending on the car.... Ha! maybe that's true, but not in this case, my car was in the bay and already warmed up when he got back to work. So, when Terwilleger says I passed..., all except the ignition timing is off so I fail. He thinks it is the harmonic balancer, but, would have to look at it to know for sure. Well, I timed it myself so I know it's on. The next day I go to Autos 4 Less and ask them to check the timing first, so if it's off I can just pay him for that and not the rest of the test, which he does and says "it's fine" and tells me that he hears that a lot about a certain place in town, I say does it start with a "S and then a "P"? he says yep. When I was leaving A4L (after passing) I mentioned the harmonic balancer as a possible cause and he said, not a chance. Smog Pros will rip you off! If nothing else, they will tell you it passes, but only if you buy a gas cap from them, everyone I know who has gone to S.P. has had to buy a gas cap... Does this sound familiar to anyone? read more

Went in with an oil leak, they found parts to my cam chain tensioners in the oil. They took 7 months to fix my car. I called or went in every week to see what was going on and I either got "I just didn't have time or I ordered the wrong parts speach". He finally got my car done but now the alternator is bad. Wanted another 500 on top of the 1600 and 7 months. Told him no and he wouldn't give my car back, ended up stealing my own car back when he was closed. WORST mechanic shop in town. read more

When I questioned him he said he has to fail a certain percent so they won't think he is helping customers pass. His attitude is so bad there are not words to describe. Went in for smog check. I had a check engine light on and was not aware that it constitutes an immediate test failure. Instead of sharing this fact, they went ahead and did a smog. They reported a "failure", charged me for smog test and then suggested a diagnostic for $79. Now, why the tech did not suggest a diagnostic first knowing the car was wouldn't pass is a mystery to me. I have two cars that need smog on alternating years, so every year for about seven years I took my cars to the owner when he worked at the Chevron station. the first time I take one to him at Smog Pros he tells me they are bus so leave the car. when I come to pick it up I find that the car past the smog check on the machine but he found something visual and "HE" failed my car on his own. this was awhile ago and I don't remember exactly what was wrong I do remember it was an easy fix that only took me a few minutes to do. My bad experience was on a motorhome where it failed because the engine base timing was diagnoiced as beinging incorrect. Additional testing would cost at least $120 or more. Since the motor home had not been in for engine work since its previous smog check, I elected to take the $54 hit and get a second opinion. Next smog check station (20 minutes later) checked the base timing and found it correct. Out of that door (Steve at Used Cars For Sale on Inyo Rd 760-446-2170) in 40 minutes and with a report well under the state numbers. SmogPros lost my business and I have 5 vehicles! read more

I have had smog tests done there for my 3 cars yearly for 5 years in a row. They have done exceptionally well each time. Very little wait time, fantastic price, and exceptional customer service. Prior to taking may cars to Smog Pros the other places were more expensive and were trying to "upsell" with some other service. The owner is very cordial and accommodating to the customer's needs (like offering a discount when their smog machine is down and they want your return business - customer service with common sense). read more

I took my car in for a smog. They said my gas cap was no good which I found out at another shop later that it was perfectly fine. They also said my Timing was off and they would Charge Me 2HRS. of Labor to fix the timing when another shop told me it would take about 15 min to fix and They only charged me 30Min of Labor to fix it. IN MY OPINION THIS SHOP HAS POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE MECHANICS END AND THEY JUST WANT TO NICKLE AND DIME YOU TO GET AS MUCH OUT OF YOU AS THEY CAN!! I went in for an oil change, and when the ditsy gal at the counter told me my paperwork was at the DMV I asked why would the DMV have paperwork on my oil change? She said it was for the smog. I told her I came in for an oil change. The owner or whoever, wouldn't make it right either. She even knew I just had it smogged there in October, five months ago, so why would I need another smog so soon? Maybe if she wasn't busy on the phone at the same time she would have gotten the work order right. She even got the odometer wrong. So I'm out $45. And I'm on a very low fixed income. Stay away from this shop. Owner with the long beard has a very bad attitude. Got an oil change and when I left my check engine light came on. Went right back and he said it had nothing to do with the oil change. He stated that who ever did my last oil change did not tighten the filter. I have never had any oil leaks. Went to have some other work done and the mechanic showed me the message the oil coming out of the oil filter. I did not have the work done that I was going to have. Went back to S. P. and told them my issue. I was watching them look under the car where the oil filter is located and use a rag to wipe and never saw and tools in hand. The guy came told me that oil filter was not loose. So I asked him where is the oil coming from, his answer was you have lots of leaks and that what happens when you shop hop. I responded that I did not appreciate his demeanor and tone. I have oil changes and smog work at this shop before, never again. I have always heard that this shop has a bad reputation, they proved it today. I have reported then to that state of California Automovtive Bureau. They can answer to the state.
