Please save yourself the headache and don't go here. This place used to be under different management and previously cared for their customers experience, but that is no longer the case. This was my third time coming by the shop since the transition, and I thought maybe they had to work a few kinks out, but it seems this lack of customer service is the new norm. I entered the shop around 10:20 and no one was to be found for over 30 minutes. Once the guy finally showed up, I was informed that the credit machine was down and I needed to go to the liquor store to use the ATM. Good News: Pass Functional Test. Bad News: Fail One Visual Test. Truly Good News: Later Go to Different Shop and Pass All Tests. SmogStarExpress: Pass objective diagnostic test; fail subjective visual test. Show driver the "failure". Direct them to purchase part and DIY, or pay a mechanic. Here's the push. Fix it and come back today, you'll receive priority in the queue and only pay $40 (this is on top of the ~$58 - $78 you've already payed) to SmogStarExpress to "retest". If you come back another day, you will not be given priority in queue. If you think the visual "failure" is questionable, you might be right. In this case, the "failure" was in the eyes of the beholder. I went to Monument Car Parts, mentioned the inspection failure to the gentleman behind the counter, whose facial expression spoke before he uttered a word. After looking under the hood, he recommended another shop at four corners. My vehicle passed the Star certified inspection that day at the corners. No visual "failure". No parts. No labor; just a lesson learned. If Smog Star is duplicitous, take your business elsewhere. If you patronize them, insist they perform the visual inspection first, for no fee and report their findings to you. At that point you can make an informed decision and it might lessen the incentive for seeing a failure where one does not exist. read more

Are you there for comfort? Not if your sane. If you're sane you want a smog check as quickly as possible so that you can get on to non bureaucratically mandated activities. I went in for my smog check like usual, I have used Smog Star Express many times over the years for my 5 cars. I asked if there could be a smog issue because this particular car hadn't been running in several months and I didn't want to waste my time or theirs. I was told it would be no problem. I waited about 30 min or so and then when the inspector came back he told me it failed because the OBDII is unreadable because the car's battery had been disconnected and that I need to drive it 50-100 miles. They charged me $50.75, plus another $30 something when I retest, to tell me something I already knew, after I specifically asked them if this would affect the smog check. These guys are crooks and are taking advantage of people and I will not be going back. read more

YELPERS BEWARE OF THEIR HIGH REVIEWS. THEY GET ONE STAR FOR the guy not being a total a**hole, and for me being in and out in a half and hour BUT there was no one there on a friday at noon and I see why.... Horrible Horrible Experience. Took my car here, spent almost $50 did not pass & they still charged me. There are places that will take my money and pass me so they get my money. Then they want to charge 1/2 price for a retest? My car has always passed smog, so I feel fishy about this place. Why not pass or it's free? THEY DO NOT OFFER FREE RETEST. Way fishy. Seems like they were more interested in my money. When i asked what I should do next, the guy was not very helpful telling me "drive around then come back and retest' as if driving around might solve the problem. He didn't suggest taking it anywhere or getting anything fixed, he said "drive it around and come back and retest". Then he reiterated it would be half price, and he could not guarantee it would even pass. WHAT?!! \ I received this car from my in laws, they are the original owners. My car is barely over ten years old, and has passed smog every time. Not saying he rigged it, he seemed decent, I just found it weird that this has never happened and he wasn't giving me a reason why it would not pass. I knew from the moment I walked in being female I was probably gonna get swindled because it has happened before. He did NOT mention the yelp discount until I pressed about it. He was very insistent about the yelp discount (stood over and watched me access it, wouldn't start until he knew I had the app and had checked in and showed him, which was NOT WORTH IT.) Seriously don't be scared of those shadier places on Monument, they at least at worst seem seedy but at least they're not trying to make a quick dollar off you, or in my case a misfortune! PLAIN AND SIMPLE had I passed it was still pricey. And I would have not came back just because of that policy. They are not gonna change their policies so I just suggest going someplace that isn't trying to make a buck off an already pain in the ass process. read more

I went in to get my car smogged yesterday and to my dismay it did not pass! The gentleman that helped me explained what the problem was thoroughly and patiently. He said it was an easy fix and I could probably do it myself. I made the repairs and took my car a second time (free retesting! ) and it was A-ok! I have memories from years past of smog certifications being either long waits in dirty, run-down shops set up in the remains of old service stations, or of much pricier experiences in more-respectable shops where appointments were necessary. This was my first time visiting Smog Star Express, and I was pleasantly surprised. While I did make an appointment, one would not have been necessary. I arrived a few minutes early, and Efie came out to greet me in a pleasant and professional manner. He took my car right away, and the test was done quite literally in a few minutes. I had a minimal amount of paperwork to complete, did the credit card transaction, and my car was right out front waiting for me. Really, what else could I ask for? Pull up at 1130 on the dot, go stand in the lobby, and wait there for almost 10 minutes until someone comes over and tells me to move my car and to park it somewhere else. No greeting or any type of customer service even though he saw me standing there. I tell him I made an appointment for 1130AM and he tells me it will be 10 minutes or so. I move my car to where he told me to and sit there for 30 more minutes. Finally, I just left and found somewhere else to go. Best word I can come up with is "sketchy", and that is a generous stretch. I feel their business model is to rope you in with Google ads with a cheep fee, and then hit you with a retest fee. Their yelp review is artificially inflated because a good review earns the driver a $20 discount. I passed everything, but failed a visual inspection. Technician saw a mystery crack on the rubber of my gas cap. I also observed the other technician charge another walk-in customer $40 more than mine (similar year of vehicle). Bottomline, stay away..sketch at best. I'm going to pay full elsewhere then pay them a retest fee to look at my gas cap! read more
