The kid there failed my smog because I had a "modification" that had nothing to do with emissions, it was a safety modification for that motor but what does he know lol this place just wants to take your money and send you off regardless if you pass or not. First time visit. Chris came right out and greeted me. Let me know there would be a small wait and to have and seat outside in the patio area and he'd be right with me. My appointment was for 12:40. My smog was completed and I was on my way at 1:07 PM. And because I booked the appointment online, there was a 20 dollar discount. AND they filed the doc with the DMV! Dishonest..... That's the best word to describe my visit to this establishment. I came to this place to get a smog on my BMW. Guy that helped me was attentive upon my arrival and asked me to wait, after a few minutes it was my turn. He took yhe car in and started hooking up the cables for the service, while this was taking place I asked If I could retest if needed as my car hadn't been used in a couple weeks, he proceeded and said "yes you can" also informed him my service engine soon light was on. I waited a few minutes and he took me in the office, while in there he told me it didn't pass, and I could retest for a $40 or $60 dollar amount again! I was like what?! But I guess it was my mistake for not being specific about FREE retest as most smog places do, so I take the blame for that BUT this is where the honesty part comes in, first he should've clarified extra charge for retesting, second. An honest person would've told me it might or may not pass if the service engine light was on, I say this because this was the first thing the person told me when I took it to get smogged at another place as clearly I didn't want to give my business to this place again, so this new guy told me I should run the car for at least 30 miles before attempting to smog it ad the car hasn't been used much. And guess what?! I did just that and the car passed! So the whole moral of the story is to not always trust the first place you go to and do your research AND ask the right questions before you get cheated this way. I do want to recognize this place gave me a 20 dollar coupon but the overall dishonest experience leaves a sour taste on your mouth and makes you wanna go somewhere else. Just like I did! read more

Don't trust 5 star reviews here. They are all paid reviews. Robert was talking on the phone when I got there and he was still on the phone while doing my smog check and even when paying. I got $10 discount for writing 5 star review and had to show it to him in order to get the discount. The reason why I changed my review now is that I don't want to trick anybody else and get the service I received. Find somewhere else. There are better smog check places out there. And he didn't even wear a mask for whole time. ---------------------------------------------------- I am updating my review on 1/5/2021 because I got a threatening message from someone calling him or herself as anonymous hacker, says to take down this review or would find me using my social media account. And also mentioned, I am petty because I changed my review after getting discount. You can say that but it was fake discount which pre-sale price was dramatically inflated. Original price quoted was $89 and discounted to $69 after the yelp check-in deal. Then, another $10 discount was offered for writing positive review. After all, it was $59, but hey, that is the price which you could get from other smoke shops without having this unpleasant experience. I brought my car into smog star express since I was due for my smog test. Kenneth greeted me right away and let me know that only one computer was working at the moment and he was by himself, but he gave me a fair estimate of how long it would take since there were two cars in front of me. More cars continued to arrive after me, and he greeted them right away and updated them on the situation. The process was pretty quick and by the time I knew it, it was my turn. Kenneth was profession, cool, calm and collected even though he was very busy. Kudos to him and thank you for doing a great job! Took it to my mechanic who said there was nothing wrong with my car and it should have communicated no problem. Took it back and they wanted another $40 to retest. I came to this store " Smog star Express" today Sunday around 1:30 pm at 1130 Detroit ave in Concord. I waited around 2 minutes and nobody was around the counter and when I was leaving a guy with the name I believe of Edd appeared in this station so I asked him for the price of the smog check and he answered the price is $79.00 so I said is fine great let's do it and then I asked him what about if doesn't pass just to make sure right??and he repeated the price is $79.00 and if doesn't pass you pay $40.00 on top of the first $79.00. I used them before and I not recall pay extra $40.00 if the test fail. Just to make clear Yelpers I used them like 6 times and one time didn't pass that was 2 years ago and I didn't pay any extra because that was a Yelp offer posted long time ago and also Yelpers if you check it's website and old photos from yelp you'll see the promotional offer and as soon I mentioned that and I said I used you before he said sorry I can't help you and I said why?? And him without any good explanations said that's our rules now. I said that's bad and I will check you reviews later on today in Yelp again and he said what? What did you say? I haven't written a review in years, but this irritated me enough to write one now. About a week ago, I needed a Star Smog Check, and found this business via a Google Maps search. The Google results and website indicated it was open for Sunday the 27th. The website allowed me to make an appointment for 9 AM, and sent me an email confirmation. Today, I show up at 8:45 am, and they aren't open. No matter, they open at 9, and maybe they don't open the gate till then. I kill some time, come back at 9. Still not open. I sit and wait 20 min, and call several times. No answer, no changes. Check their front door, no sign indicating they are closed for special reasons. Re-check Google's listing, and the company website. No changes or special notes or holiday hours there. Re-checked the appointment to make sure I didn't get the date or time wrong. At about 9:20 AM I called one last time, then I gave up. Called another place that was open and took my car there, without an appointment. It cost more than here, but at least its information was accurate. So would not recommend. read more

I made an appointment and ended up getting there a bit early. They weren't busy and took me early! Don't forget to use their $20 off smog coupon, but you must tell them when you get there. I've been to this wonderful place before. They are quick, easy, and at a reasonable price. If you think your car will pass I suggest coming here. My car is a 2001 Honda and it only took ten minutes to be tested. They electronically send DMV your test and it's done! Derrick was great and got me through quickly. Absolute garbage. I had an online appointment for 9:00 on a Sunday. The appointment was confirmed via e-mail. I showed up at 9:00 sharp, and they were not open. Gate was closed, no access, no signs of life. I drove up and down Detroit Ave for several minutes, and each time I passed the shop they were still not open. Pissed and frustrated, I ended up going to a shop in Walnut Creek that was open and gladly accommodated me. The kicker: I called this place a half hour or so after my scheduled appointment, just to see if they ever opened or if they were simply closed that day. Some guy picks up the phone and I told him I had an appointment earlier and they were not open. He acts like he could not care less, just said "We're open". Absolute garbage. read more

Another great experience at Smog Star Express, this time with Kenneth who helped us out. Came without an appointment at noon and they were pretty busy. Kenneth's time estimate was accurate though and he kept the cars moving through efficiently. I had a lovely experience having a conversation with one of the other customers in the little outdoor seating area. I never take our cars anywhere else because Smog Star Express is always great.
