Like all Californian's, I go through this every couple of years. My car is well maintained and usually just needs the test and done. That being said, I've had to wait hours for a test. Been told to come back, the litany goes on. Smog Star Express is now going to be my one and only place for my families 3 cars to get smogged. Why? People make a business. Robert who took my phone call and handled my test is the very definition of professional/hustle! This man told me: 1, Discount if I could bring it in now. 2. Asked me miles/year of car and said 10 minutes to do the test. (WHOA! Whisky Tango Foxtrot! An answer based on knowing what your talking about as opposed to asking nothing and promising the world. 10 minutes?! Who promises 10 minutes? 3. Robert kept ALL his commitments. Think about that.....consider your last 24 hrs at work, with friends, with family. How many times in that 48 hours did ANYONE keep all their commitments? Bottom line. Called at 4:30. Home by 5:30 and I have at least a 30 minute drive there and back. Priceless! Free snacks and soda's to boot. Don't know who owns the place but if it's not Robert, Boss you better take him out for some beers after work. An employee like that doesn't come around every day. Another great test done by star express !!!! Came in for my second car this year , and it has got even cleaner and more efficient than ever ! Are you tired of going to a hole in the wall shop at some gas station corner or some place that looks like you can lose a finger if you touch the wrong thing? Well then this is the shop for you ! Well, a few weeks ago I needed to get my car smogged, real fast. I had the darn DMV papers for weeks now, but I kept pushing it off. Anyway, at the last minute I asked the guys at Concord Toyota where I can go smog a car, and they told me to go here, even gave me a $15 off coupon. Near Costco, and it was a blast. They have a nice waiting room with plenty of food, and before you know it, my car was done. Given that this biz has plenty of bad apples, I definitely recommend these guys... they are honest, and at $64 out the door, I definitely would go there again. Oh, and I almost forgot - I came there with my two year old, as you moms know, it's not always fun traveling with young kids, especially to a smoky, dusty place like a smog shop. Well, this place had none of that. Very clean, separate waiting room, air conditioned. No wonder about 75% of the people I saw there were all women. read more

Up and down Monument Boulevard, every mechanic in the area recommended these guys. This was my first smog so I needed some help understanding what a smog test is. I called around first (sorry Yelpers), but I just never got a firm quote, until I called them. They did ask what my vehicle was, and was given $20 bucks off for mentioning Yelp. Next, I came in and this lady serviced me. She was very nice, and we chatted a little bit. She just had a baby daughter, so we felt an instant bond because I too am expecting. In any case, before long, even before I enjoyed their snack (and you can imagine how hungry I always am these days!) my car was done. So in short, this was a painless exercise, and later I found that they were decently rated on Yelp, so I felt obligated to report. Self reminder: next time, always use Yelp first, even if it's out here in the suburbs! read more

I had a horrible experience here the other day. Smog tech is very inexperienced and has no knowledge of cars. I did not tell them, but I am a certified ford technician, I brought in an all stock 1989 ford mustang that was a friends, it had an edelbrock intake which falls under appendix K of smog book and says its a stock replacement not an aftermarket part. I came in with all other carb #'s and documents from Ca.gov website for smog and emissions and they still would not smog my car. I understand BAR is cracking down on shops but at least have your smog technician be knowledgeable enough to know what will pass and what will not. I would never recommend anybody to go here or give them business. tech said "he doesn't make anymore money whether he smogs my car or not" and for this company to be advertising for and representing Yelp is just awful.. read more

I went to this homeless place for a smog , I was greeted by a very upset homeless looking tech, Wow , NO Hello , NO how may I help you, just a very unshaven, homeless looking man that demanded paper work. Its Sunday and I was sell my car , I had cleaned my car so there was nothing in the car. When I told the homeless tech that I left the reg at home he just kept insetting that I was trying to defraud his smog shop. Wake up dude how can some defraud a smog shop. Next time you go to work on Sunday MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 2 CUPS OF COFFE 1 FOR EACH EYE JERK. 1st of all Clean your face and attitude your a smog tech 2nd When some one comes to your shop say hello I know you don't like to work on Sundays but that's what you singed up for jerk 3rd If your homeless smog shop doesn't smog cars with out reg, maybe you should put it in your advertising read more

This place is beyond fast and reliable. You know that shady feeling you get going to anything related to cars ? Well this place makes you feel like your going to your child's doctors office. Relived your getting help for your baby, in a clean and friendly environment. Its honestly so refreshing. Now that Covid has been lifted I think people will relax a little bit on the negativity. Check the stats , this place has always been serving to the most of the ability. They are always busy for a reason . They are that good and everyone loves them . During covid J have seen the nastiest and inconsiderate comments being made to even my local laundry place , it got a bit out of hand . Terrible Experience - Would Not Recommend I rarely leave bad reviews, but this smog technician service was a complete disappointment. The staff was unprofessional and seemed disinterested in actually helping customers. When I finally got my car checked, the technician barely communicated anything and seemed rushed. To make matters worse, I later found out they incorrectly failed my vehicle for something that wasn't even required for my car's model year. I had to go to another smog station just to confirm it--and, surprise, it passed with no issue. Not only did they waste my time and money, but they also caused a lot of unnecessary stress. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else where they know what they're doing and actually value their customers. read more

LOVE . Absolutely LOVE . Thank you Chris and Co. ! I came in with no appointment. Was put in line , and was in and out so fast. The option to wait in the car is so great on a overcasted day like today :) . Had a nice warm coffee, and was out before I could finish it . When my car was up, they waved me to drive up to the bay, I left the car running , went to sit down at they're cute waiting area outside on some nice turf grass . & enjoyed the view. . When they finished they called me back up to the office, which might I add is VERY clean. We checked out with payment, I used my handy Yelp coupon ! & was on my way to DMV :) . Now that I am a Yelp-er of course I always wanted to know which places offer the best combination of price and service. I needed a smog and got this place and a few others through Yelp, and I have to say that this place rocks! First, they give $20 OFF just for mentioning Yelp, this place is near Costco, so I left my car there and went to Costco to do a little shopping. But if you choose to stay and wait, they have an air-conditioned waiting room, which must be a first for a smog place! I thought I have seen everything, but obviously this is a surprisingly pleasant new experience for me. read more

Antoine took care of my GTI in just a few minutes. I received a discount even though I didn't have to right coupon on me. The customer experience is good-- gracious intros, snacks and coffee, and a clean waiting room. There are no upsells, cross-sells or anything of the sort, unlike other places I've been to. Price is competitive; when combined with the time savings of a 30 minute round trip, Smog Star's overall value is compelling. Smog Star Express is amazing. I called many places to get my RV smogged and couldn't find anyone with a bay door tall enough for my RV. Derrick assured me he could do. I made an appointment, and then was late due to a dead battery. I was still taken as soon as I drove into the lot. Derrick directed me into the bay perfectly, and the smog test was quick and easy. He then gave expert directions so I could back out and turn my RV around. Best and quickest smog test ever. I will bring all my other cars here for testing in the future. read more

I was referred to here by D&H, so kudos to my trusted mechanic (seperate review).... This holiday season was quite hectic, but at the same time I needed my car smogged real bad. Luckily, these guys offerred pick and up and delivery and it was a godsend! They were very polite, courteous, and took care of my care within 3 hours, and I did not have to come down myself. Called in at 8PM Saturday, hoping to find out what the hours are, and somebody picked up the phone! Very nicely he told me that although the shop is now closed, it will reopen Monday 8AM sharp. How about Sunday? "Unfortuntely we're closed Sundays, but here is a special deal for your troubles... you can redeem it in Richmond (open Sundays), or Concord on Monday. All this time, this guy was saying no, but in a very nice manner, I went to their Richmond store on Sunday morning. Cool. read more
