The service was perfect. Our waitress was friendly and discreet and brought us everything with a smile. The owner paid for our drinks at the end of the meal as a way of thanking us for the new business. The food was halfway there. The ribs were really good and juicier than most, but still a little bit chewier than I would have liked. The mac and cheese was a veritable brick that could use a lot less fat and cooking. We were so disappointed. We had talekd all day about BBQ. We got there at few minutes past 7 last night. It wasn't crowded at all. We got a couple of drinks and ordered our food. Then nothing. 15 minutes later, we said "hey, at least how about our wings" and he said sure. But then nothing. Finally about 15 minutes after that (30 minutes total), we asked again and got an attitude. He said it was a typical waiting period for a restaurant and we were being unreasonable. Not even a promise of "its coming right out" or "5 more minutes". So we left. Sorry guys, 30 minutes with not so much as a "sorry, I'm trying" is too much for a walk-in, BBQ restaurant. I really liked the BBQ Chicken Salad. There were a lot of items like corn and beans in the salad, and plenty of BBQ sauce. Lots of white meat chicken, very good. Parking isn't great, but it's a cute place with outdoor seating that's just far enough from the street, and everything is very cute. Free wifi! Been here twice; once for takeout, once to eat in. Really enjoyed it both times. The ribs are fantastic; very meaty with good flavor. I tried both the hot and sweet BBQ sauces and both were great. The highlight for me is the smoked chicken wings; they have a really unique taste and are among the best wings I've ever had. I've also had the brisket, which is leaner than you'd expect but still quite good. Sides like beans, mac & cheese, and cornbread are all fine. Consistently good BBQ. I've had the pulled pork sandwich several times now and every time it comes out great. Nice chunks of pork, soft fresh roll, good sauce. The beans are good BBQ beans with lots of flavor. The potato salad seemed to have bacon in (?) and that was just fine with me. Side of corn was a little more charred than I like, and seating/patio could use something (not sure what), so this is a very strong 4 star place. I can't figure out why it isn't more crowded at lunchtime, but it seems there are lots of delivery orders going to local offices. Haven't had any trouble getting a seat or a quick BBQ fix. read more

These guys are awesome! Catered a work lunch through them and walked there from my office to pick it up. Upon arriving it started pouring rain and without me having to ask they happily offered to drive me and my food back to work. All in all, awesome customer service. The food was also great. We had a little of everything. I would recommend the spicy BBQ over the sweet, but they were both solid. 100% get an order of the wings. Smoke is one of my favorite places to go treat myself. I only ever order two things - pulled pork or a half rack of ribs - but I am never disappointed. Whenever I have family or friends in town, I make it a point to take them there for some good BBQ. The bar is a pretty nice place and versatile place to hang out also. I've watched sporting events, watched amateur stand-up, or just hung out and had a good experience no matter what. read more

First review ever on Yelp. I'm not into reviewing places on Yelp, but I found this place on Yelp and couldn't help signing up to add my experience. In one word, AWESOME. My bf is from North Carolina and has given up trying to find anything like he grew up with around here. I literally dragged him into the place. I love BBQ and am not as picky, I grew up in NoVa so it really doesn't matter to me, but he swears by vinegar pulled pork, and he was extremely reluctant to try this. Backstory: he's tried every place around here. Thumbs down on all of them. Enter Smoke BBQ. It's cute in there- warm atmosphere. The bf was impressed with the full bar- he got a dogfish beer and I got the lemonade. They make it there and it rocked. I actually ordered the pulled pork (my bf refused to even order it) and he got a half rack of ribs. The portions were huge- the half rack of ribs was literally enough to feed at least 2 people, and had tons of meat. He couldn't even finish the half rack, it was so much. My pulled pork was delicious- smokey and yummy. It came with one side dish so I got mac n cheese. It was simple, creamy, exactly the way I like it- I actually ordered some to go! They had baseball on the TV. Bartender was super nice, and it was "poker night" - I guess they play poker on Wednesdays? A few people at tables, etc. Overall, it was chill. The food came out fast, good and I would definitely go back. The best part? I made him try the pulled pork. He nodded his head and ordered a sandwich to go. I made him admit that he liked it. Ordered a meal through Uber. Half an hour later than originally stated. Food cold and missing one whole meal (full rack of ribs). Immediately called and they said so many Uber drivers came in at once, there was confusion. Ok, understand, then refund me. They then said not our fault, contact Uber. I asked if they would send the missing meal. "No, contact Uber." They obviously don't want to make it right for their customers. I tend not to have high hopes for BBQ places in Montgomery County. Every place I have visited leaves me wishing I never even wasted my time and this place isn't much different. To be fair I didn't eat the BBQ, so MAYBE its good but from what I had...I highly doubt it. I opted for their Chili Dog. The cashier informed me that he heard the chili was amazing, but he was a vegetarian so maybe I shouldn't have listened . I was surprised to find my chili dog housed in a regular slice of white bread....where do they do that at? No hot dog bun, really? And so by the time I went to eat it, the bread had all but disintegrated into a mushy mess so I pretty much ate chili dog sans bread. The chili really wasn't that great, it lacked flavor. I liked that they added brisket pieces to it, but aside from that... canned chili would have given better taste The french fries were good...but you know who gets french fries wrong? Finally I ordered their funnel cake....I was hopeful as I hadn't a funnel cake in years and it was rather inexpensive. However my funnel cake was ...well...very well done. It's possible I would have enjoyed the food more if I hadn't had to wait nearly an hour while several other tables got theirs. When I said something to the "waitress" (this is a decorless place with no real table service, so "waitress" is a stretch), she said, "oh, the briskett takes a long time to cook." Um, okay. When the food finally did arrive, it was clear that they'd run out of beans and tried to stretch the few they had left by adding new - barely warm beans - to the existing, softer, cooked beans. Given that I just moved to Bethesda from CA I was eager to try some BBQ and found this place not too far from where we live. We got an array of their different food, ribs, brisket, chicken, chili and pulled pork. Everything with the exception of the chili and cornbread was way to smoked it was inedible. There was no sweet sauce, no tangy BBQ it was just smoke! If you are looking for good, slow roasted and awesome BBQ sauces, this is not your place. did we catch them at a bad time? i think maybe we did...my family and i went in and had some lunch, mid-afternoon on a monday. the brisket was thin and dry...the texture was almost like a gyro, only dry. the pulled pork was ok, just threw a ton of spicy sauce on it. the service was excellent, just the food was so-so. i'll have to give it another go around because most of the reviews seemed pretty good, although a couple of other reviewers seem to agree with me. maybe i am too picky...i have a smoker in my backyard that i fire up a lot during the summer, and ive been to some dang good bbq joints all across this great country of ours...so am i setting the bar too high? or are expectations around here too low? you decide, and i promise to give it another go on some later date. read more

Until I tried Smoke, I found MD/DC/VA to be a wasteland for BBQ, with the exception of Dixie Bones in Woodbridge. Smoke was really good. We did a big take-out order on Sunday. The order was well-executed and the food was really good. The ribs were very meaty and smoky. The brisket and pulled pork were spot-on, too. Where's the smoke? The ribs and the pulled pork had no smoke flavor and certainly no smoke ring. The brisket was slightly better but still no smoke. Sauce was needed to provide flavor to all of the meat. My advice as a Q aficionado...more rub and lots more smoke. On the plus side the coleslaw and greens were very good. read more

Food is good but I'd avoid delivery. I've had it take more than 90 min several times now and I live about 1 mi away from the restaurant. Each time they give me a time est of around 60 min and each time it's exceeded 90 min. They have great excuses each time but honestly tired of it. read more

Second disappointment today. After the first time flopped I thought I'd give them another chance, but they failed again. The brisket does not taste smoked at all, the cornbread is dry, the sweet potato chips were stale and the coleslaw portion does not deserve to be called portion. Ordered take-out from Smoke last night. Outstanding. My husband and I split a rack of ribs and ordered coleslaw, collards and potato salad as sides. The ribs were excellent but the sides were also standouts. The collards were very spicy. The potato salad tasted like it had been just made. The slaw was thin sliced, not chopped, and spicier than the old fashioned kind. Overall much better than usual. read more

These people know how to make brisket! It was tender & very flavorful--as in, if you ate it without any barbecue sauce, you'd still like it. The ribs are good, but they insist on being stingy with the sides. I'm not sure why. After having spent $128 for 4 full racks and extra cole slaw and telling the young woman on the phone that there were 7 of us, they sent 4 tiny pieces of corn bread. The cole slaw that they give with the ribs is truly just a tasting of cole slaw. I think I will have to pay less ($23) a rack and drive to Urban Barbecue in Rockville so that we can get generous sides of cole slaw and corn bread. read more
