Excellent food both for the price and portion. The setting is also very nice inside and out.

I will start with the outdoor area, they have a very nice outdoor seating area, but.... 5 of us came in on Sunday afternoon and sat outside. We went inside to make sure they knew we were there and to see about ordering drinks. We ordered drinks from the bar and went outside. We never had anyone come out and check on us, we had to go inside and get all of our own drinks. The restaurant was not busy at all. The only time we saw anyone was after we went in and ordered oysters and they brought them out. The second order of oysters, we had to go in and ask about after a long while of not receiving them. The heaters, we saw a manager come outside and asked him to light them for us, which he did. But the propane was low in them and only worked for about 15 minutes. We asked a server who was passing by to go on break, who said, "we don't have anymore propane, sorry". We went to another heater that had a tank and changed out the propane tank ourselves. If you are going to have heaters and an outdoor area, ensure the propane is full, with periodic checks and definitively have spare tanks. The oysters were good, although pricey, $24 for 6 raw. $38 for a dozen charbroiled with cheese. For the prices they charge at Smoked, I believe the service needs a lot of attention! read more

I am very conflicted about how I feel about smoked. I went in last week for their 1/2 off lunch special, and got the fresh catch sandwich (halibut -- fried) and it was incredible. The fish had flavor, there was hints of lemon and the fry was perfect. It came with fries and they had a ton of flavor, I am usually not a huge fry person, but the flavor on these were so good I ate all of them. It was an amazing sandwich, so I went back again. I got the same thing, this time the fresh catch was mahi mahi, one of my favorite fishes. My overall experience the second time was extremely disappointing. The staff hardly acknowledged me while I waited 30 minutes for my food and I just felt really awkward and uncomfortable. I was then charged wrong ($40 instead of $12) and the only thing done to remedy was "sorry." My fries had absolutely no flavor, maybe a few grains of salt on them and certainly no truffle. My fish sandwich was extremely bland and had no flavor at all. I was very disappointed to say the least. I was at least hoping to be able to have a good meal after a not so great togo experience, but that unfortunately was not the case. I have walked away from this meal feeling heavy and greasy. I can't decide if it will be worth giving them another shot. Part of me really wants to, considering I had such a wonderful experience my first visit, but in the same breath I do not want to be disappointed again and consistency is key. I was really hoping it was simply a random off day and not a consistency issue. While I wouldn't say this experience was awful, it certainly was not anything positive. I would recommend giving their lunch a try, but based off my experiences I am not sure if it is worth risking spending a lot of money on a potential average meal. read more

The food was decent. The wait time on the other end was the worse I have ever experienced. And I am a fairly patient guy. We waited an entire hour for our food. After that they asked if we wanted desert. REALLY!! And what wait another hour for that. I was not impressed. The three stars is for the service we received from the waitress. Absolutely gorgeous space AND outdoor courtyard!! They have giant fans outside too, which is perfect for Columbia's hot summers. There's also this massive glass "garage-style but fancier" door that opens up from the back bar to the courtyard which was super convenient. Highly recommend!! Ps. After stalking their website, I was excited and eager to give this place a try. First things first, the interior was decorated beautifully. I love the classy yet chill vibes it gave me. The colors and lighting spoke to my soul. Loved it! On to the food and drinks. May I say, the water was quite tasty. Since I went during brunch hours I drank a pineapple mimosa. It was perfect and not over juiced. From the main and sides menu I chose the chicken and waffle stack and truffle fries. The truffle fries were good. The description of the chicken and waffle seemed so elaborate which is why I wanted them. However, it was standard. While I enjoyed the four mini waffles with basically chicken tenders on each one, the syrup as described (espresso-rum) didn't taste like it at all and the curried mustard didn't really do much for the meal. Honestly, I think it would've been better without it. I love curry and I love mustard but it just didn't mix well with my tastebuds. While I enjoyed the vanilla ice cream scoop, I didn't feel like it was best for the plate. You basically had to eat it first before it melted and made the waffles soggy. There were pralines as well which added additional texture. Overall my experience was good. This restaurant is definitely a nice location to have drinks with friends or maybe happy hour if that's your thing. read more

Smoked is not worth the effort for fine dining. The decor and design are the initial attraction but upon closer inspection the experience falls short with simplicity. The service is friendly and attentive, however, it lacks the maturity and experience of expert staff for an expensive restaurant. Most importantly, the food AND drinks are not good. My martini was the most disappointing I've experienced next to Chilis and it was oddly served in a sort of goblet and not a martini glass. Overall, the servings are incredibly small. Congratulations, you have just been transported back to 1990s Manhattan where you will spend $500 for 4 and YOU WILL leave hungry. The noodles were the best part of my Bolognese that was generic and uninspired. My date's Lamb was dry. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else for fine dining that will have a tremendous better value for the experience. read more

I've heard really mixed reviews about this place and now I understand why. The atmosphere is amazing and the service was amazing which is why I gave them 2 stars but the food was mediocre at best. The food wasn't bad...but honestly it wasn't that good either. We needed salt and pepper for everything because it lacked seasoning. The menu did not have anything outstanding on it to set it apart from other fine dining restaurants in Columbia and the price was too high for the food to be just okay. I still had a great time because of the company I was with but it's just a shame that this restaurant has all of the tools to be a major fine dining staple in Columbia...except for the actual food :/ read more

Second time going to this place. Looser again. Got sick last time. Yesterday, and it was a special occasion, went here. I ordered the halibut. I honestly have never been served a flat piece of halibut. Over boring risotto. Dry. You know how over cooked chicken or fish sticks to your teeth and makes that sound. Green, and added nothing to the poor fish pistachio, and green pureed olive something that maybe should be added to something different then thrown out! Wife's crap cakes where not heated well. We wonder how much crab(p) were in them. Twisted remoulade sauce, we think, was with extremely overpowering barbecue sauce added. $25.00 cold chewy lobster mac and cheese that was boring. My Budweiser was good for $6.00. Ambiance OK. They took the entrees off the bill, BUT then figured the tip with the cost of the entrees. Tricky. By that time I was tired so I paid the ridiculous tip. Simply put, this was a terrible choice for our anniversary dinner. The food was mediocre at its best and did not merit the price point in any fashion. While the decor was absolutely lovely and the service was competent, the food was not equal to many of our wonderful Columbia restaurants like Halls, Bourbon, and Colas. The service was slow, which was to be expected nowadays, but, our waitress, Abby was absolutely amazing! The decor & ambiance was beautiful, whoever designed & decorated that place understood the assignment! Now, on to the food.... 1. Lemon Parmesan Chargrilled Oysters - I felt like they lacked seasoning, all I could tasted were the bread crumbs & they weren't even that seasoned. 2. Crab & Avocado Salad - again, didn't really have much flavor/seasoning, literally tasted like crab & avocado. 3. Sea Smoked Dip - tasted like the cheese in a can & I didn't taste hardly any of the seafood that was allegedly in it. 4. The Burnline Cocktail - this was very good & very strong. 5. Rockefeller Ravioli - again, barely any seasoning. The ingredients listed for the dish sold me but the flavor execution was just not there. 6. Jalapeño Corn - it was decent, had better seasoning than everything I mentioned before it. My total for all of this was $110 (the burnline was free because it took so long to make, Abby, comped it) before tip. Overall, Smoked is beyond overpriced & I was underwhelmed & unimpressed by the food & I wouldn't return, not even on someone else's dime. I'd like up mention that my friends ordered the following dishes: 1. Poulet Rouge Chicken -I sampled my friend's & again, no seasoning! The rotisserie chicken at Sam's Club is 10x better 2. Truffle Mashed Potatoes- didn't taste these but my friend said that they tasted like boxed mashed potatoes 3. I went here for brunch... and I liked my dinning companions meal more than I liked mine. I ordered the tuna tartar and it was not anything special. I should have know when they served with tortilla chips and it was not 'elevated' to something more like wonton chips. However the burger was awesome and the drinks were very good. I would give this place another try and order something different. read more

Decor and ambiance of restaurant were 5 stars.grits were great eggs and bacon were fine oysters were sensational but this place has some problems. Opens at 11, at 1230 we asked for cinnamon rolls and they were not ready... at a place with a BRUNCH menu. The avocado tartine was quite literally thinly sliced raw Avocados on bread with only one side toasted. When we decided not to eat this I politely asked for an egg and our server acted like she had to kill a chicken in the back to get an egg and was not able to give me one because they "changed their menu". Find me a brunch spot where I cannot order a stand-alone egg. This is almost comical but the fried green tomatoes were red. After a pretty bad meal with less than ideal service the bill came with a recommended 28% gratuity which I have never seen in my life. Might be a good dinner spot but don't plan on stopping by here for brunch. read more

My husband found this restaurant online while looking for a special place to dine before the Steve Martin/Martin Short performance which we had driven from out of town to see. Although the menu selection was a little pricey, we were pleasantly surprised with our entrees and especially with our server, Carly, who was most knowledgeable about the menu, very attentive, and quite personable. This is a very conflicted review because we thought the food was wonderful, but the service was just awful. My husband and I took two friends to Smoked to celebrate our friend's birthday. We're all members of local clubs, but wanted to try something different for his birthday. I made a reservation through Open Table for 6:15. I even called the day before to confirm the reservation because it was a special occasion. We were running 10-15 minutes late because we were looking for a parking place and my husband doesn't like to give his very expensive car to valet drivers to park it. We finally decided to valet it because we were late and got inside. I immediately apologized for being late and my husband explained we were looking for a parking place. The hostess snapped at us and said "We have valet." She also said "You're late, we cancelled your reservation and gave your table away." I had not received any notification that my reservation had been cancelled and was immediately embarrassed and also wanted to just walk out and go to our club instead, but we tried to make the best of it and wait, although we didn't feel very welcome after having our heads snapped off by the hostess. She gave a half apology by saying "I don't make the rules, I just have to follow them." We were seated toward the front door. It was very noisy and my husband (and all of us) had a hard time hearing, but we did enjoy the music being played. It took 35-40 minutes to get a cocktail. We all determined that was our continued punishment. We ordered the smoked oysters, lemon parmesan oysters and the oysters mignonette. Everything was delicious. Our server explained it was taking about 40 minutes to get drinks so we went on to order a glass of wine and it took another 30-40 minutes to get that. We all enjoyed our entrees very much. I had pre-ordered a surprise dessert to be delivered to our friend for his birthday and had the person playing sing "Happy Birthday" to him, so that was nice. The food was delicious, but the service lacked a lot, starting with the hostess biting our heads off. We asked someone if the owners were there so we could meet them, but we learned the Middletons were not there. My greatest suggestion would be to work on service because the food was amazing. For some reason now, OpenTable will not allow me to do a review, which is certainly a positive for them. As Maya Angelou said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." The service is the main issue here. I'm understanding if "Covid issues". But this didn't seem to be that. There seemed to be plenty of staff in my opinion. Table to the right of us was seated after us and got food before us & 2 bottles of wine (same server????). Table 2 our left was flipped 2x while we were there (different server). Took 30 min to get our drinks and they almost brought the main before the app??? No attention from our waitress and when we ordered desert and asked for a second spoon we had 3 different people bring us one???? The one thing I will say is she was knowledgeable about menu items. The food was EXCELLENT. We had the seafood charteutery / pork trio and / mashed potatoes n carrots. More than enough for 2 to split. Desert was !!!! A chocolate peanut butter sunday under a smoked glass. This stole the show for the evening by far. Prices were a little exhorbanant for what you got in food and (quantity/quality/service). I don't mind paying for good food/service but this wasn't quite there. What I did appreciate was the management comping our appetizer and apologizing/being sincere about the errors and delays. The above, as well as the live band in the main room, are the reason for the 4 star review. Hopeful they can improve service. I'm looking forward to coming back. read more

A special side dish was replaced with something else (lower quality) with no notice. We got rid of that. Manager came by for routine check in and when we told him of the concerns he made no apology. I know I'm giving this one star, but I do first want to say that the ambiance and view are very nice in much of the restaurant. However, this was the most disappointing food experience that we can remember. We came to Smoked for my husband's birthday, and we decided to splurge for the Coast-to-Coast "Seafood Tower" for the two of us and our teenage son. It costs $185.00 which is not how we typically roll, but it was a special occasion. When the "Tower" came out, my heart sank. It was underwhelming to say the very least. The 8 shrimp tasted like they came from the Publix deli; they advertised four lobster tails which were actually two tiny tails cut in half; there were 10 oysters which were fine; there was a small serving of some ok tuna tartare, 3 slices of smoked salmon, and a scoop of crab salad. The "accoutrement" that they advertised was a tiny portion of seaweed salad and some packets of saltines that our son reported were stale. (He ate them in the car on the way home because he was still hungry.). We went to another cheap restaurant on the way home to order appetizers and drinks to fill up. Both the quantity and quality were poor. I acknowledge that a seafood tower is probably a gimmick, and perhaps their entrees are great. But for $185.00, I expect much much much more. read more

Went here for my birthday with a reservation for party of 6. We were seated and waited upon almost immediately, but after placing our drink orders we waited a good 30 minutes before we were served. Receiving our food was even worse -- we had been at the restaurant an hour and a half before we ate. The restaurant was not even close to full capacity, mind you. Had the wait been worth it, my rating would be higher. We left hungry. My bill for just my food and drinks was $145.00. You should not leave a restaurant hungry after spending that much money! read more

This restaurant is WAY overpriced. I got a salad for 18 bucks that was literally a cup of arugula with a piece of smoked buratta cheese on top. The chicken was an additional 9 bucks and it was the size of 1 chicken tenderloin. So 27 bucks for literally 2 cups of inexpensive ingredients. This ain't New York City, it's Columbia,SC and this restaurant will not make it serving microscopic portions for exorbitant prices.
