Absolutely amazing fusion of Texas BBQ with Ethiopian flavors. It is stunning that this combination has not happened before. If you're a Bloody Mary lover like me. You HAVE to try the Berbere Bloody Mary!! 10/10! This was the least dressed Bloody Mary I've ever had but the best tasting I've ever had. The bbq was hittin'! The fries were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and well seasoned. Bbq sauce was good. The loaded mac n cheese was rich and creamy. The Ethiopian food was...unfortunately mid. Ethiopian food is one of my favorites and I have high expectations. Service was horrible. The Hispanic young lady is making this business lose major money. On the day we went she was working the register, seating guests, taking orders. I felt sorry for her. We placed our order and waiting like an hour and never received our food because she had never put our order in the kitchen. So many customers were leaving due to customers service and wait time. It is hype because it was my first visit and I was sorely disappointed. We each got the 3 meat platter and when I say skimpy for 21.00, that would be an understatement. None of the meats were hot and the rib tips were fingertip in length, width and depth. They were tiny, liked they chopped the rib tips in half. The ribs were just ok. Nothing special and the lamb they charged an extra 2.00 for was chopped and not even a few tablespoons worth of meat. I felt cheated for the cost. Drinks are 4.00 each and they are regular schegular fountain drinks, nothing crafted. I also got the catfish special and it was the only hot food besides the veggie greens. The fish was just ok. Nothing special about the seasoning and the fries were basic crinkle fries. The sauce isn't in a bottle or anything on the table for you to help yourself. It is a teeny little side cup about a tablespoon or so. My plate had 4 small ribs and not especially meaty. I won't be back because I am not their target audience. I prefer a meaty rib that is hot and full of flavor. I expected more for the lamb and was super excited for that. It was disappointing. You get a taste of it without anything substantial for the cost. 80.00 lighter, I can't say it was worth the oil we got on our clothes from the table. The table leg/connection was covered with some oily substance and we didn't realize it. We bumped up against it resting our legs against the table. Went on a Thursday morning right at 11am. No one else there for a few minutes and only a handful there when I left. They were very helpful with recommendations. I got the Tex-Ethiopian brisket, red lentils stew, and the teff injera (like a tortilla). It all had really nice flavors and was very different than traditional barbecue. The Ethiopian sauce on the brisket (awaze) had a slight kick and nicely mixed with the Smokey brisket. Red lentils stew was ok. Teff injera was a great vehicle to hold the brisket. Very small establishment of worldly flavors! I have been a few times and the last two times I have had the Tex-Ethiopian Platter for 2 and before that the vegan combo plate. In the past, I didn't like Ethiopian food but this place rocks! I have become more accustomed to eating injera with my hands to pick up the foods and not using the plastic utensils. There is definitely a nice balance of flavors when you are eating. When you have the Tex-Ethiopian platter, you get the the sauces from the meats and collard greens soaking into the injera. - The Tex-Ethiopian Platter for two had Smoked Doro Wat, Rib Tip Tibs, Awaze Brisket, Awaze Pork Ribs, Misir Wat, and Beefy Collard Greens, served with Texas Toast and teff injera. -The vegan combo had Shiro Wat (pureed chickpea stew), Misir Wat (red lentil stew), Ater Kik Wat (split yellow pea stew), Kay Sir Wat (beet and potato stew), Gomen (collard greens), and Tikil Gomen (cabbage and carrots), served with teff injera. There's still a lot on the menu that I haven't tried like the lamb stew, smoked boudin special, and spicy beef stew. The list goes on and I will definitely come back. Walk up counter with customers given numbers and they delivered to your table. Plastic ware for eating utensils. Huge bar with about 15 chairs with hard liquor with beers as well. I love smoke'n ash! I have been going to it for years when it was on its Matlock location, but now that they have moved to their new expanded restaurant on Cooper St... I highly invited everybody to come in and see the new place. They have many amazing reviews from many area, magazines, like the Dallas, and the star telegram... They won mini awards, and most importantly, they have won my Goodwill... Because they have always been amazing. It's a place where people who want to be a little adventurous, could try the Ethiopian/African dishes, and where people who want to have some good old Texas barbecue can come and enjoy it both at the same time. I saw an article online about this place before I knew actually where it was. I think I saw it before I even moved to Arlington. Then, even though I knew it was Arlington I didn't know exactly where the location was until I was taking my son to swim class and noticed it in a shopping center with Albertsons Crunch fitness and several other shops. So I knew how convenient it was to my home and two places that we have to go to, but I just hadn't found the opportunity to go and try it. I was supposed to go to a Yelp event, but due to a time change for my son's basketball, I wasn't going to get to go, so I took up on myself to try This today to find out if it is as good as the reviews and the magazines. I really couldn't grasp the concept of this type of fusion. I've never had Ethiopian food, but I love barbecue. The food looks great in the pictures and the reviews say that it's something to try so here we go... I walked in and there there was a bit of a line, because I feel like it was everyone's first time, and they had a lot of questions. Unfortunately, the young man who was taking the orders was not well-versed in the menu or what it tasted like. I know some people said the person they got really could tell them about the menu, but I noticed when I got up there, this guy hadn't tried any of the food really and couldn't really answer some of the questions that I had regarding what to order. I am not going to ding them a star for this because he was really nice and accommodating. I think I could've upgraded for this particular seasoning and I'm not sure if I was supposed to do that, and that would've given me some other kick or not but nevertheless, thought the food was excellent. This isn't a chain nor is it some hole in the wall where you drive up and they're getting it right off the pit. This is a quaint shopping mall store with a bar. I found it to be clean and comfortable. My food came out really quickly. It was on like silver tray platters like you find other barbecue restaurants. There was a little corner where there is pickles and onions. I don't really use those but it's nice that they were thoughtful to put that on the platter. It came with a bit of Texas toast. I couldn't make up my mind for two sides that came with the meat platter. So I knew I wanted the macaroni cheese, greens, and so I added the baked beans or barbecue beans as they call them. I loved the macaroni cheese. It's like a shell but they're so cheesy and it has like a little bit of spiciness to it so not the typical macaroni cheese, but delightful in every way. The baked beans were my favorite! My mom used to make some baked beans before she found Bushes in a can and her beans were delicious. When I tasted these, it made me do a shimmy, as they reminded me of my mom's baked beans and they were so good. They were the right consistency, the right amount of sweetness and spice. I just really loved them. I had the greens I think they called it beefy greens but I didn't like these as much as the other two sides. They were not bad, but it was like they are seasoned with some sort of spice that I'm not sure what it actually is and that spice just wasn't some thing I found to be as tasty as the other two sides. Now onto the barbecue... The sausage which I almost didn't get was very good. it was the right hint of spiciness not too fatty and had a great smoked flavor to it. I had the pork ribs, and these pork ribs weren't fall off the bone, but meat and seasoned where you have to make a little bit more effort to eat them. I didn't mind that. I also got the brisket and I found the brisket to be seasoned and moist. However, I wonder if they have a more lean version because it was a little fatty for me. I found that they gave you a lot of food, and I was very excited about bringing my leftovers home and eating them again which I've already done. I even texted a few people talking about how delicious this place was. A lot of times the hype doesn't match the actual place, but in this regard it does! I am so happy that Yelp made me remember that I needed to try this restaurant. I definitely will be back to get some of the same sides but branch out and try a few more things and maybe some more of the Ethiopian type dishes. read more

This place was amazing. I can see the reason for all the accolades. So let me preface this by saying I've never had Ethiopian food before. Not by choice, it's just something that hasn't come up and that I haven't made a particular quest for; but after eating here that will probably change. The flavors of everything were so good! We got the Tex-Ethiopian Jumbo Platter for 4 and a pulled pork and lamb chop platter. The awaze brisket was phenomenal as was the pulled pork. Would very strongly recommend both of those. The doro wat chicken stew went well with the injera- which is a gluten free, spongy type of bread. The berbere mac n cheese was awesome, would strongly recommend that as well. Brisket green beans were good (how could they not be? Made with that brisket!). Bbq beans also had a good flavor, closer to traditional baked beans with a sweet flavor. My wife and I order the plater for two $40.00 of mediocre bad tasting overcooked day old meats accompanied by terrible tasting mush rice.
