We stopped in on a Saturday lunch. The reviews were a bit off... first of off the service was quick. My husband only waited a 10 mins between ordering and getting his plate. The food was hot! Second, We were impressed this was a large portion. And considering he ordered goat. At kemis he only gets 2-3 pieces of goat meat here he received about 5. The staff were very friendly. Lastly the food was amazing. My husband being Ghanaian it is hard to find food that tastes like home to him. This was pretty spot on he said. He ordered the Ghanaian jollof and loved it. The ratings did not lie, the food I got was very good! I ordered the Egusi (w/ Assorted Meats) and Fufu togo. I would describe the Fufu as a thicker mashed potato that you can mold/shape to dip into things. The Eugsi is a very flavorful "stew" that goes really well with the Fufu. Delicious and flavor-packed!! I got the Okra soup with Eba and I can't stop thinking about it. Truly one of the best meals I've ever had. The service was good -- straight to the point and easy going. The ambiance is relaxed. I'm shocked to see negative comments about price for portion size or spice levels being too high. Yes it is pricey compared to most plates, but this cannot be compared to most plates. I've always wanted to try African food and this was the first time I tried it. The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because I don't have anything to reference the food to since this was my first time. I did a to go order and items were missing. I know it was my fault for not checking the bag. I got the beef egusi and fufu and the beef was hard and crunchy. Not sure if that's how it should be but based on videos I've seen it seems like it should be tender meat? It almost seemed like meat that was pan fried too long and tossed in the soup. The flavor was good but it was oily. Again, not sure if the soup is supposed to be that way or not. I'm still happy I tried it and wouldn't mind trying african food again but will try a different restaurant just to get another chef's food. read more

However the customer service when I walked in recently WAS AWFUL, the young lady was very conceding & rude I had an order of cow skin/chicken pounded yam the young lady at the front made me feel as if I was UNCULTURED, DUMB, couldn't pronounce anything right and I left with only pounded yam & IVE ORDERED SIDES MANY TIMES BEFORE the lady made me feel less than.. & that took away from my experience although i love the food & I order many manyyy times before. First time I ordered was through GrubHub. The second time I decided to go. The seen and customer service was unpleasant. I stood at the register for 10 mins before someone came out to assist me. There were shoes at the front where the register was as well. $20 dollars per meal, which should be $10 because the portions are so small! They were also stingy with their fufu! My nephews were dying to try African food and wanted to try eating with fufu, so I decided to take them here for the weekend buffet and I'm so glad I did. The food was amazing, but what was even better was the friendly service. The owner was so welcoming and explained what everything was and how to eat different things. And she wasn't just doing that with our table, I could see her laughing and smiling and doing it with the other patrons. It was just a lovely and welcoming atmosphere. We tried the jollof rice and the egusi and okra and spinach and different meats and fish and soups and everything was flavored and cooked to perfection. Most of the items were spicy, so if you have a more Americanized pallet be prepared for that, but it was so dang good. We even ordered some puff puffs for the road trip home. Very friendly service and a great experience. It was our first time trying Guyana food. Had been wanting to try FUFU. And the fufu was good it a lot of flavor but the texture wasn't as bad as I anticipated it was soft but not slimy at all. The food was more spicy than I expected. It was a good experience the flavors were authentic but some of the flavors were over powering for me. I think I went in with the wrong mindset I thought it would be more like the Ethiopian food I'm used to but the Guyana flavors are more intense.
