We didn't dine in so that's the lack of star because I can't comment on that type of service, BUT the little bit interaction we had at the front of the restaurant was the lady being very kind to us as we ordered there for the first time!! The outside of the place blends in with the neighborhood it's located at and has such a cute feel to it. Now the food.... When I tell you I've never seen my brother so happy with a steak egg sandwich before! Every bite he had to say how good it was!! We also got some gluten free wings that they allowed us to split into two sauce so we could try more flavors was great! THE BEST THING WAS THE HOMEMADE TREATS FOUND UP FRONT!! I could not stop dreaming about this place and recommended it to the family and friends that are with us on this trip.

Wow amazing find in Raleigh! The service was great from the moment we walked in, the food was amazing! We went on a Thursday and it ended up being burger night which I failed to get a picture of but it was great, the fries were the best fries I've had at a restaurant! The squash blossoms however were my favorite! They had drink specials and classics. We sat outside on the patio and brought our little pup which was great! They had a large fan going to keep you cool and bugs away

Both the food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend the French Toast, Shrimp & Grits, and Steak Bites. Each dish was bursting with flavor, and every bite was cooked to perfection.

If you don't live in this Oakwood area near downtown, I recommend using a gps to find it as it's an old building in the middle of a charming neighborhood. Or just look for Oakwood Cemetery. Very close. Plenty of street parking. Small building, but they do have indoor and outdoor seating, and service is always terrific. Thankfully they live up to their name, as smoke flavor can be found in many ways. Four of us went for Sunday brunch. Started off by sharing the most delicious little deviled eggs that were pickled, with a dusting of curry. Brilliant! Three of the four of us had the pork hash that comes with poached eggs and hollandaise. Husband chose scrambled eggs on his instead. No one could come close to finishing this rich dish. It's very meaty...lots of pork and sausage over potatoes. Meanwhile I was enjoying the heck out of the most amazing smoked chicken and dumplings. These are not the usual southern ones that are like a thick stew. This version was actually a creamy soup, with chunks of smoked chicken and a few delicate dumplings. Chicken pieces were a bit dry, but the outstanding flavor made up for it. Drinks were good. Great bloody mary, decent moscow mules and really good coffee. Only disappointment for me was the killer looking apple cinnamon donut had an unusual texture and very little flavor.

We wanted to go out for a low key 27th anniversary, so we came and minds blown. The food was amazing, Ashleigh was our waitress and was so knowledgeable and helpful in our decision process. My wife and I split a beet "caprese" which was delicious, for Dinner I got the steak Frites. The steak had an A1 aoli and it was on the fries too. I could not keep my family out of my Fries they were amazing! My son got the ribs and they were so rich and flavorful. My wife got the Coq au Vin which had a richness from cooking method different than traditional and delicious. This will definitely be a place We will be back regularly.

SmokeStacks Cafe serves up the best burger in Raleigh, hands down. I made it a point to return during my trip just to grab another burger and fries. The small, local vibe of the restaurant is charming, and the staff is super accommodating. They even let me place a to-go order before the kitchen opened, which saved me time. It's the kind of place you go out of your way to visit!

First things first DO NOT let the outside and location deter you! Second.... F-R-E-S-H!!! Everything is fresh, and the menu changes daily! They have a couple staples that are always on the menu so check there website before you go! We shared the César salad, wings, hand cut fries and braised beef tacos! Please go see the photos cause my descriptions are not going to do it justice. This place is being run by a brother/sister duo sister is running the front of the house and is the pastry chef while brother is the chef! So ignore the negative reviews about wait times... good food is worth the wait! OMG I JUST BIT INTO THE PEACH AND BLUEBERRY TART I GOT TO GO WHILE WRITING THIS... AMEN! Just go people... just go!

SmokeStacks Cafe is a hidden gem in the Oakwood Neighborhood. It was once Quality Grocery but is now a small restaurant. They left the logo on the side of the restaurant. The restaurant is on the small side with about seven tables inside and more tables outside on the heated patio. The large menu changes daily and some of the dishes are creative with items you wouldn't think to put together but once you try it, it does work well. On my last visit, I went with the steak and eggs. The portion was huge when it came out and I had to take some for another meal. I also ordered sweet potato and goat cheese empanadas to go as that combination sounded yummy. I couldn't resist the brownie either. I highly recommend SmokeStacks Cafe.

Tried this at Dreamville and though the prices at the Dreamville booths were atrocious, I'm assuming it was due to booth fees or something. They also gave me pulled pork instead of the brisket I requested but all was forgiven because that pulled pork was something else. This was also my first time having BBQ in the south so I'm not sure if this is typical southern pulled pork - the skin was still attached and crispy, and the meat was smoky (in color and flavor) all the way through. Mac was nothing too crazy but solid.

I am compelled to remind every resident and every visitor to make this a "must go to and enjoy" place for either brunch on Saturday or Sunday, or for dinner any night of the week. Go for the amazing cuisine, vast wine list, and stay for the outstanding service! Recently, we have found ourselves trying not to enjoy just our go-to favorites that are mainstays on the ever-evolving menu. We have been blown away by the flavors of the large plate option called Chicken Pimientos. Don't let the name throw you, because it's not super spicy, it just has a nice kick to it with delicious potatoes accompanying the very moist and flavorful chicken. The way the kitchen team at Barcelona handles the preparation of the eggplant caponata is impressive and very unique. Other favorites on the tapas section of the menu recently are stuffed piquillos, corn zucchini bunuelos (think fair food turned healthy!), Wagyu carpaccio, lamb kofta, and pulpo gallego. Remember that their tapas offerings rotate in and out, oftentimes based on the season and availability of fresh products. The wine offerings are unparalleled in the city of Raleigh, and when you visit for dinner on a Monday evening, every bottle is half-priced. Can't beat that for a way to jump-start your work week! We tend to sit at the bar on most visits as bartenders Kira and Cameron truly handle their bar with a welcoming vibe and impressive ease. General manager Jed is a visible leader of this great team and makes every guest feel appreciated. Awesome job all the way around!

We shared a glass of cava, which was crisp and delicious. I chose the aperitivo board and my husband ordered the paella mariscos. My husband lived in Spain for a while so he had high hopes for the paella; alas, it was very salty and the calamari was missing. It was so salty that we only had one or two bites. I keep telling my husband that he just shouldn't order paella in the US anymore. The manager was extremely accommodating and offered many options to help! The aperitivo board was divine. The items were bursting with flavors. My favorites were the marcona almonds, the aged manchego, and the potatas bravas. The table bread and oil were also fresh and delicious. There was another dish that I'm not sure if we ordered or if it was included, but the fish flavor was too strong for me so I passed on that. My husband enjoyed it though. I'd love to try some different menu options for our next visit.

The business was clean and there is also a bar inside. The restaurant has a large selection of wines and offers flights for purchase. The restaurant had some people dining in but they were not overly packed. Initially our server was pleasant and attentive. I got a blood orange sparkling water. It was ok. I ordered the whipped ricotta for an appetizer to share and a burger with fries for my entree. The whipped ricotta was ok. It would taste better with some sort of seasoning in it. My fries were served hot but needed some salt. I asked for my burger to be cooked well done but I was brought a burnt burger. I took one bite but it was too overcooked. I then requested that my server have my burger be cooked medium well so I didn't get another burnt burger. When my burger was brought back out, our server had me cut into my burger to make sure it was to my liking. The preparation was better but it was bland and tasted like there wasn't any seasoning on it. After this our server wasn't as attentive anymore. For dessert we got the donuts. They were served warm and I enjoyed them with the cherry sauce. I did not like the chocolate sauce that was served with the donuts.

It felt like a local hidden gem rather than a tourist trap, and that's always a plus when you're exploring a new city. The service was great from start to finish. The bartenders were friendly, attentive, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do! They gave recommendations, and took the time to chat and help them pick something perfect. Of course, I had to go with the espresso martini, because if a spot has it on the menu, I'm trying it. And wow, this one was good. Smooth, balanced, and truly the kind of cocktail that makes you forget you're basically drinking dessert. Not too sweet, with that rich coffee flavor front and center. Easily one of the better espresso martinis I've had in a while. Even though it was a quiet afternoon, the energy didn't feel slow or empty, just comfortable.
