There was confusion at the host station but we still got seated pretty quickly. We were seated in the bar area, which we did not ask for and the bar tender was working really hard making drinks, taking orders, bringing out requests to all the bar patrons and tables. Greta was like the energizer bunny crossed with a patient saint! Three of us ordered rib specials that came with two sides and one order of smoked wings with a dry rub. The ribs were tasty, but not very meaty... the sides were not generous at all. The cole slaw had very little seasoning in it. The fries were crisp and hot, but there were definitely not enough of them..., the baked beans were OK, nothing special and the steamed broccoli was just about four pieces of broccoli with no seasoning. Corn bread was considered an upgraded side... the meals came with a slice of garlic toast... The smoked wings were a little over cooked, so another plate was brought out to us quickly and kindly by a food runner. I will be honest- I haven't been here since this place opened and I live 10 minutes away. Had a bad experience then and never went back, and I tend to avoid chain restaurants . That being said.. My friend suggested this for dinner in a Tuesday night. I have to say their berry berry sangria was super good. Not sure if her option (some sort of sampler for $22) looked good to me - but I got the half BBQ chicken that was on special (BOGO)- and it was really good. Took one home. One basket has baked bbq, Lemon pepper wings, Caesar salad, and mashed potatoes. This plate was good! The other plate had chicken breast, fries, Mac and cheese, and shrimp. If you want to mass consume meat with unauthentic BBQ Sauce, then this place is for you. The chicken wings were under cooked, but very chewy. I don't know how that's even possible. The ribs were very fatty and gristly. There was a hint of smokiness to them, but I think that was a chemical flavor an not a result of long hours in a smoker. We went to watch preseason football cuz we don't have NFL network. The hostess was super nice and sat so we could see the TV it was a little too far to make out the numbers on the jerseys but she tried. Tonight me and my husband ordered take out from Smokey bones. He ordered the pulled pork tacos and loaded fries. I ordered the steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. We ordered it to pick up for 5. I got to Smokey bones at 4:58 and went to the pick up area. A woman told me it would still be a few minutes asked for the make and model of my car and asked me to wait outside and it would be brought out. At 5:30 I called and asked if it was ready at this point. The phone hung up. A couple minutes later someone brought food out. Once getting home and opening it up all of the food is cold, like the butter in the broccoli was hardening. The steak that I ordered medium bled all over the other food and was rare and inedible for me. The tacos were also cold and soggy. The loaded fries were pretty good. This is a chain restaraunt that is pretty much hit or miss. I have eaten at quite a few of their different locations. I would say that this one was okay, a near miss. The location was clean and brightly lit, and I was seated quickly. The place was almost empty, 7pm on a Tuesday night. Service was prompt, had a waitress in training along with the regular waitress. I started my meal with a garden salad that consisted of a nice mix of field greens, red onions, roma tomatoes and croutons. Served chilled with the dressing on the side, it was quite good. For the main course I had the build your own combo with smoked turkey, smoked chicken wings and spicy BBQ sausage. For my side I chose the roasted corn. I'll start with the side dish. Served in a separate bowl, it was prepared well, done just right with s slight smokey flavor The entrees were just so so. I know that coming this late on a weeknight is almost always a mistake at most chain BBQ places, and that's why I didn't order the ribs. The smoked wings had good flavor, but the outside was just a little too done, and they were a little dry on the inside. The turkey was moist, but had very little smoke taste. I very rarely use the table sauce, but had too in this case to get any flavor. The spicy sausage was well cooked and had good flavor, but was definitely not spicy. Again, used the mustard sauce at the table to flavor it up. An okay meal, fairly inexpensive and served quickly. Never saw the waitresses again once I paid the bill, even though I eras sitting here another 20 minutes writing this review. I hate seeing the bottom of my drink glass! read more

So, to preface, we wouldn't have gone here if there were any other more desirable options in Taunton at 8pm on a Monday. But we were meeting friends in the area at 8 and this looked the most promising. I'm glad I didn't have high expectations. First of all, the lights over the booths are... aggressive. Like interrogation lights-- me and my bf were literally squinting and trying to back away but there's not much escape. It did look like there were less aggressive lights on the other side of the restaurant but no one was seated up there. The music was also aggressively loud, I thought. My bf didn't mind the music. Moving onto the food, all I wanted was chicken wings but I am avoiding gluten as much as possible and apparently all the wings are "breaded and floured", and they "come that way." So, no freshly made stuff here. I then decided on BBQ chicken... except they were out of it, of course. So I went with a BBQ platter (I think) where I had to choose 2 proteins and 2 sides so that I could get the bourbon BBQ chicken breast, and then picked pulled chicken for my second option. I got steamed broccoli and sweet potato fries for my sides. My bf got a burger. The food took a long time to come out considering we were the only table that seemed to be ordering food-- there were some people at the bar, some playing pool, and the only other table had already received their food. When we got our order, my bf was happy with his burger and said it was cooked right. My plate came out hot but the food was barely warm. The broccoli was complete mush, just disgusting. The sweet potato waffle fries were cold but at least still crispy, except for the ones that were soggy from the watery broccoli. The pulled chicken was dry. I put a couple of the many sauce options on the table and those were ok, but I didn't like that there weren't ingredients listed. The BBQ chicken was OK-- I added different sauce on top. Our server was nice and really tried to be helpful since I obviously had trouble trying to find something to even order. The first two were very good but the styrofoam "bowl" of stew was literally half full and not because of spillage. I'm not a huge chain person but throughout the summer we have hosted a few parties and tried out the bbq pack- let me tell you... it's an amazing deal and we have had fantastic service! It's like $55 for 6 lbs of meat and 2 sides. Today, we wanted to host for friends and when we called...the manager said they weren't open during the day but they would be happy to do an order for us anyways. Such amazing service!!! National chain restaurants pretty much dominate Taunton's roster of places to grab a bite. That said, Smokey Bones offers a welcome change from the usual TGIFs or Ruby Tuesdays, etc. of the area. Whilst I realize many foodies look down on the chains, they exist to serve a purpose (decent food at a decent price) and Smokeys fills this role wonderfully. The bf and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here last night. The St. Louis ribs were average as far as the meat itself goes but the brown sugar rub was delicious. The pulled pork was excellent and the quality of that meat showed...no 'bad' parts like gristly pieces or chunks of fat thrown in. The baked beans were sweet and flavourful. They have a basket of 4 different BBQ sauces on the table and of course I tried all of them. The Carolina mustard based one (yellow cap) was great on the pulled pork. The sweet one (green cap) and the vinegar based (blue cap) were both perfect on the fries. The Chipotle (red cap) was not my favourite even though I generally like spicy things...it just didn't quite taste right. The portions here are huge...$13.99 for the 1/3 rack and pulled pork combo including baked beans and fries and garlic toast? WHAT?!? I could almost feel my pants button popping by the time my dinner was over. They also have individual speakers on the table so you can turn the volume up (or off) for whatever one of the numbered TVs along the bar catches your eye. This seems to be a typical "guy's guy" type of joint with sports on TV and pool tables in the dining area, so that crowd would probably give it 5 stars; However, even this East meets West gay couple with urbane tastes felt comfortable here and enjoyed a decent meal for a great price. read more

Mixed bag. We've been here twice now, first time for lunch and then for dinner. Lunchtime food was really good, so much so we got one of their Club cards because we were sure we'd be coming back often. Then we came for dinner and it was just meh. Food not so warm, fries seemed like bits of whatever was left, same Cuban sandwich my wife had so enjoyed last time, cold and unappealing.
