I haven't been to Smokey Bones in probably 2 years. There isn't any located anywhere near where I live. While in the area shopping we decided on a big lunch at Smokey Bones figuring dinner would be light. While looking the menu over we noticed several things are different since last time we had eaten here. When the server approached we asked her about doing a combo. I wanted the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs and pulled pork combo. I learned from server they no longer offer that combo. She stated that to do that combo it would cost between 5-6 dollars more. I also asked if I could have the center cut of the ribs. I was told no, they don't do that. I hate when you order a half rack of ribs and you basically get 3 edible ribs out of the 6. We all know how the ends are usually burnt and not very good. For an appetizer we ordered a corn bread. It used to be served in a pan. It's now served as 4 mini cornbreads. I actually prefer the cornbread this way. The taste was the same, still delicious. Also, if you don't finish them you can take it home and it's a mini cornbread for later. When my food arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was delicious and the ribs were so tender and falling off the bone. The pulled pork was yummy too as was the sides. Had dinner here several times in the last 7 years. The food and service have been very good. There is a large menu of bbq food. Smoked wings, pulled pork, bbq chicken, beef brisket, and "falling off the bone "ribs just to name a few. There are starters like cornbread, Brunswick stew and pork nachos. Several sandwich and burger platters are available. We ordered the cornbread which comes with a delicious flavored butter. Enough for two to share. Turns out that they no longer serve or carry Ribeye... so that was out. Waitress said that the New York Strip is popular... so I ordered that, with a loaded baked potato and a caesar salad. Went with garlic butter on the steak When it arrived... looked pretty good. Steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare. We visited Smokey Bones in Citrus Park and decided to try the Bone Fire, which includes Baby Back Ribs, sirloin, smoked wings, smoked sausage, chicken breast, potato wedges, and grilled peppers and onions. It comes in two sizes: the smaller option ($42.99) feeds 2-3 people, and the larger option ($69.99) is advertised to feed four or more. We ordered the larger Bone Fire but were a bit disappointed with the portion size--it comfortably fed about three adults rather than four. When the platter arrived, the chicken wings varied quite a bit in size, but when we mentioned it to our server, she quickly involved the manager, who brought us one wing to make up for it. There was also a mix-up with our ribs--we requested them with just a dry rub, but they arrived with sauce. Although the staff offered to replace them, we had already finished eating by then. To their credit, they adjusted the check by $10, which we really appreciated. Our server was excellent--friendly, attentive, and checked on us often, which helped balance out the small hiccups with the food. My first clue should have been that it was less than half full on a busy Friday night during the Holiday Season when the neighboring restaurants were all full. Hubby and I headed to the bar for a drink and when my hubby complained about the use of the jigger the waitresses proceeded to insinuate that only a "dive bars" free pour alcohol. My Mom keeps choosing Smokey Bones for when we take people out to dinner, so I can say I have probably dined here four or five times in the last two years, and it gets worse every time. This last time, a Friday night at 6PM was the final straw. We were seated quickly and our servers were very nice. That is the extent of my positive feedback. Having ordered countless meals there where the sugar level was off the charts, I aimed to order something that was 1) hard for the kitchen to screw up and 2) not going to send me into diabetes land. I chose 8 boneless wings with spicy buffalo garlic sauce and sweet potato fries. Husband ordered the appetizer nachos for his main. For beverage, I ordered the sexy margarita. The margarita was supposed to have: "Casamigos Blanco Tequila, Grand Marnier, Monin Margarita Mix, sprinkled with edible gold dust for the win" When it was delivered, it tasted like tequila, water and a splash of sunny D. I saw no evidence of gold dust. Yikes. Complaining about it was not an option, with Mom there and visitors, she would have been mortified. Besides, having been to Smokey bones, I knew this was the norm anyway. The food took a while to come out, and when it did, boy was I surprised. My boneless wings were tiny. Like smaller that MCD's nuggets and mostly breading. The sauce was neither spicy nor garlicky. And my "wings" and fries were stone cold. Like they had been sitting for twenty or more minutes. My husband's nachos, the cheese wasnt even melted in some spots. Like they hadn't baked them at all, just put under the heat lamp and prayed it would do something. I guess he took all the space under the heat lamp, because there wasn't any left for my pitiful meal. Honestly, both dishes were embarrassing. And, the restroom I used was out of TP. We've been here before and the food was spotty although service has always been good. Tonight was an exception! Hubs and I were just so impressed with the food. Walked in and seated, greeted by our waitress (Holly) and order taken! We had a minor hiccup with the promo we had however Holly was amazing and helped communicate between us and the manager. She was so friendly and attentive! Best service by far. We both got the all you can eat wings. I opted for the smoked wings the Bones Way, dusted with their house seasoning and drizzled with sweet bbq glaze. Hubs got the Honey Asian wings. The wings come 8 at a time with choice of dipping sauce which my go to is Ranch. The wings were out in no time for our first round. I'm so glad Holly recommended the smoked with the dry rub. These were so juicy and delicious! Hubs wings had a slight sweet heat to them. He also enjoyed ALOT. We did manage to order 1 more round which we couldn't finish but we were able to take them home and have the next day. Drinks included the Smooth Bourbon Blackberry Lemonade which is made with Maker's Mark Bourbon, Monin Blackberry Puree, fresh lemonade, La Marca Prosecco and hubs drink of choice was the Dirty Shirley and the TIto's Strawberry Lemonade. Drinks were delicious and paired well with our entrees. Highly recommend coming and trying their wings if you've not had before. Or even if you have had before because maybe they're better now. Have not been to Smokey Bones in a while. Went with the wife for an all you can eat wings promotion (which by the way starts at 8 PM). So we had wings, drinks, and a good time just hanging out. I ended up getting an order of honey hot wings and an order of Korean style wings. Both had a sweet and spicy flavor, but the Korean style were definitely less sweet with a bit more red pepper type of heat. Along with the wings, I had baked beans and corn which were both excellent. I have to admit that I actually liked the food a lot. I did decide to quaff a dirty shirley temple and a Tito's strawberry lemonade, both of which had a decent mix of alcohol for the price. At the end, we ordered a bag of doughnuts to go (and ye we ate them all, and they ere good, especially with the raspberry sauce it came with) Service was very good (shout out to Holly!). She was attentive and kept up with any of our asks. This made the experience ejoyable to just be able to relax, eat, drink, and hang out. Would we come back? We ordered the cornbread appetizer and it was hot and delicious- the pecan butter was perfect. I got the chili with a baked potato. The bowl of chili was a nice size. It was tasty however some of the brisket chunks were tough/dry. My husband ordered the brisket platter with beans and potato wedges. Some slices of brisket were tender but others were stringy/dry. The potatoes were overcooked on the outside but the inside was soft. The beans were not very hot. Overall it was ok but he wouldn't order it again. My son ordered chicken wings fried. Went here last night because I didn't want to cook. I haven't been to Smokey Bones for years. This time the restaurant was spacious and had a nice atmosphere. I was ordering takeout so I collected my order and went home. I ordered a rack of ribs baked beans and corn. The ribs were tough and the flavor was less than ideal. The beans and corn were ok but nothing I would return for. The staff were kind and attentive so my issues are not with the staff but with the flavor and lack of tenderness of the food.
