This is what I call bargain BBQ!!! And it is decent eats! ONLY $11.95 for the three meat plate with your choice of 2 sides, bread, onions, and pickles! While my husband could have easily polished it off by himself, he's been cutting back lately and we've begun to share more often. Turns out the plate was just the right amount of grub (add one or two cold brews each) and was much better than expected, given some previous reviews and the fact it is a Central Texas Q chain (fun fact: first opened in Cedar Park 15 years ago; now have 11 stores in CT). The eats: 3 meat plate - chose 1.) moist ("fatty") brisket, 2.) moist ("fatty") brisket - yup!, and 3.) smoked turkey breast. MEAT - Brisket was moist, had tons of marbling, thick black crust with thin pink ring. Pretty yummy! Very simple approach. Super light S&P dust allows the gentle smoke flavor to shine through. The turkey also had a nice light smoke on it, was tender and moist enough. 4 stars; upping from 3.5 merely for the affordability! SIDES - Hmmm...bland, canned, frozen? Not impressed at all. Green beans had absolutely NO flavor, including salt and were very soft. Tasted like they had simple been poured out of a tin of Salt Free Beans. Could have at least "doctored" them up a bit with some bacon and/or onion. Hey, at least they might be a tad "healthier"...but, when I'm going for Q, "spa cuisine" is not on the brain. Fried okra - don't think they bread it fresh. Tasted frozen and again no salt. A lot of BBQ places tend to really over salt food, but Smokey Mo's must be preparing their veggies from a "Cookbook for Diabetes." Did I say bland? Oh yeah. 2 stars is all I can cough up. Sure, I could add S&P post-op, but there was just no saving these dead vegs. Plain old white bread, a little stale and they gave me an end piece. Plenty of pickles and onions. BBQ SAUCE - I noticed they jar and sell the juice, so had to try a bit for full review. SUPER sweet! Tasty; however, not what I would consider a Texas style sauce. And, who puts sauce on good Q anyway?! Oh, the shame! Especially at SM's, where the meat has such delicate flavors even a small splash of sauce would literally drown the meat...so be advised to skip it. Overall: I would go again. Can't beat the prices! I would venture to try a few different sides to see of they were sodium deficient as well....and maybe try a rib or two. Bonus: Unlike many other BBQ places, SM's is open seven days a week and late (closes at 9pm, 8pm on Sunday) so it is super convenient! TIP: Be sure to check their daily specials! read more

Since Smokey Mo's has changed hands, the quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. I normally go to The Pitt, but it was a Monday and they were closed. I get their 5 chopped beef special for $13.99 + tax. At Smokey Mo's I got 2 chopped beef sandwiches to go (same size as The Pitt's) and it was $17.+. The bun was dry, and there was no sauce in the bag. I asked if there were pickles and onions in the bag, and was told there were. The small plastic container had only 3 pickle slices and 5 fingernail size chips of onion - for 2 sandwiches! Very disappointing! read more

The good- food was very good- we had mac n cheese, green beans, potato salad and boiled potatoes along with turkey, brisket and pork. They don't serve pulled pork which is weird to me at a bbq restaurant and the bbq sauce was not good The bad- we attempted to order on uber eats and have it delivered. We go to push send and no drivers in the area, so we still order via uber eats, but have to drive 20 mins to the restaurant (not there fault). We are maybe ten minutes after our pick up time. We walk in and are told they are out of green beans and turkey but it will be ten minutes if you want to wait and none of our other food is ready. So we say sure and wait outside. Nobody notifies us that it is ready. We come back in about 15 mins later and I ask for a drink, which they direct me to the register to pay for which I think is distasteful when I've been made to wait 15+ mins after my pick up time. Anyway I wasn't expecting to be gone an hour and it was a good sweet tea, so whatever. We get our food and I say is this all of it, yes. Is there bbq sauce in there, she says yes I put two in (mind you they were 2 individual servings for a large family pack). We head home We get home and are missing a quart of mac n cheese. I immediately call the store and I'm told that I ordered from Uber eats I need to contact them. I say can I talk to a manager. He gets on and apologizes and says I told you it was gone and asked what other side you wanted. He says I remember you and your daughter. I said I don't have a daughter and he says I was a group of 3, nope it was just 2 of us and nobody ever said they were out of mac n cheese (we ordered 2 and got 1). Made an order directly through the website at 6:50pm on Saturday 12/18 and it was expected to be ready by 7pm. My wife was shopping in the area and was going to stop and pickup the order on the way home when she was done but at 8pm I receive a call from the location stating that both meats (brisket and chicken) are unavailable. I asked what could be replaced instead and the lady from the location goes on to let me know that all brisket types and sausage types are also unavailable. I go on to ask to cancel the order and she tells me "you have to do that on your end". I go on to log into the website.....and there is no way to cancel orders. Extremely disappointed. We got bbq sliced brisket sandwiches and asked for extra moist, stressed that! And we got a pint of potato salad. Got home and found we had not extra moist but extra LEAN and dry brisket, could barely choke it down. Had to for the price we paid! The loaded baked tater my wife got was not as good as her last one here, tater was a little dry and the chopped beef was a little chewy. I found my pork loin and chicken combo plate to be a little dry also, good but not great, the greens beans were good and the fried okra was very good. Smokey Mo's doesn't usually disappoint. But unfortunately yesterday it was only OK. I had surgery yesterday and as my wife's driving us home we decide to grab some lunch to take with us. We contemplated the usual places and decided that the Chopped Baker from Smokey Mo's was the route to go. I looked up their phone number and called in the order. The gentleman on the phone answered very quickly, was friendly and made the phone ordering experience easy. I ordered 5 chopped bakers with BBQ sauce on the side. He said it would be about 15 minutes and we hung up. As my wife and I were already in the parking lot we hung out for a few minutes and she headed in. She had a very short wait of maybe 5 minutes, got our food and we headed out. So far this has been an easy great experience... It's about a 10 minute drive to our home from Smokey Mo's so it's to be expected for the food not to be steaming hot, but our potatoes where barely warm. Oh well, I stuck them in the microwave for a few seconds and that problem was remedied. Unfortunately that wasn't the only issue. I slapped my potato on a plate and went to put some Smokey Mo's signature BBQ sauce on it and wouldn't you guess, they didn't provide any sauce. "Oh well I'm sure it'll be great anyway", I think to myself. Nope not a chance. The chopped beef and others toppings were great. Unfortunately that wasn't enough to make up for the undercooked hard potatoes. We all ate a little of our potatoes from the top center that was cooked all the way and it was very tasty, then we discarded the other 60% of each potato. Although this wasn't the best experience I've had at Smokey Mo's, and it wasn't up to there normal standards I'll definitely be going back. Hence the reason I still gave it 3 stars. read more

we have lived in Georgetown for 34 years. We have been eating here for a long time. The last 3 visits have not been good. The meat is over cooked and dry. They cut your meat and leave it sit while waiting for the sides to be added. Everything is cold when we get home to eat and reheating makes it worse. I was the only one in there today they had 5 people back there. The ribs were just sitting there open in take out container For 5 minutes then someone finally got sides. Manager told girl serving us at the counter that "we don't do that" in reference to serving the spicy sauce. The food is actually pretty decent here. The experience left much to be desired. First of all, there were puddles of standing water all over the floor. Someone had taken the time to place "Wet Floor" warning cones in a few spots, but inexplicably, didn't bother to mop it up. As a result, people kept stepping in the water and tracking it all over the restaurant, making it dangerous to walk anywhere in the place. The woman taking our order was all but rolling her eyes at us the entire time we were ordering. Sample conversation: Me: Is your coleslaw sweet? Her, flippantly: It's mayonnaise-based. Me. Uh...okay. Does it have sugar in it? Her, exasperated: I have no idea. All I can tell you is that it's mayonnaise-based. Seating-wise, you can choose from either stiff, too-narrow wooden benches or standard metal folding chairs. Not conducive to a comfortable dining experience for your backside. Finally, my mother-in-law's fried okra was put on the plate while it was sizzling hot - which would normally be a good thing, except that they use styrofoam plates, so it had literally melted a hole THROUGH THE PLATE. Totally disgusting. However, my brisket wrap was pretty damn tasty (even their lean brisket, which I typically have no use for, was reasonably moist and very smoky and flavorful). Some pretty darn adequate BBQ at cheap cheap cheap prices. Let me just say a few words: family pack. You can get two lbs of meat (your choice), 3 giant sides, and all the fixins for about 30 bucks, which is completely adequate for 4 adults to sup on. The brisket is smoky and delicious, although I have heard it's dry for some people's tastes (I like it on the lean side and doused in BBQ sauce so it fit my tastes just fine). The turkey isn't the best in town, but it's pretty good. The sides: the beans are something pretty special. I like them a lot, and in my family, we've never had leftovers. The potato salad is tasty, so is the coleslaw, and the green beans are decent. No complaints. It's not the bestest BBQ I've had, but it is GOOD, especially for the price! read more

I understand they aren't smoking any meats on premises but they could at least warm it up to fake it. Between our group, we had 5 different types of meat and all 5 were luke warm at best. Sides are mediocre. Does the coleslaw and potato salad come right from HEB? Tastes like it! The coleslaw is not fresh at all, soggy cabbage, which I have no use for. I feel prices are way too high for this quality of food. Drinks and BBQ plates for 2 will set you back about $30. Way too much for cold, reheated BBQ, shelf-stable coleslaw, and folding metal chairs. Been hearing about this chain for quite some time and finally managed to hit one. Nice that it hadn't been yelped yet either. I got the combo plate, brisket and sausage. Brisket was very good, nice and lean. Sausage was okay, not the best but I've definitely had worse. Also got the green beans and potato salad for sides. They were pretty good. Sweet tea was a little disappointing. I know it's a barbecue place and you're there for the meat, but sweet tea goes hand in hand with those establishments and I am quite a connoisseur of that delectable ambrosia. Still, the service was friendly and prompt, I liked watching them actually slice and scoop right there, not just bring you a plate. And the two sauces were cool, most places think their one sauce is all they need and if it's good that's fine but if it sucks you're SOL. Smokey's hot sauce isn't that great, heat for the sake of heat, but the regular was fine. read more
