Let me preface my review with a personal remark. I have eaten BBQ from most places around Texas and the US. I've eaten at most places around Austin. I've seen reviews on here saying the best part is the sauce. First, you tell the best brisket and other meats by many things sauce is the last thing to judge meat by. Judge the meat for itself. They're brisket is very good, perfect amt of smoke and flavor. I prefer the burn ends and they always oblige. They also have a great jalapeño sausage. I get there potato salad and cole slaw and are good, but everyone's is different and I have had better. They're tea is always fresh. They're staff is very friendly and accommodating. OK let me start by saying I've been to Smokey Moes literally hundreds of times over the last 10 years and have never had a problem. The food is always good and the service is usually pretty good. Today I came into the Wolf Ranch location which is on my way home really because I've been thinking about the cream corn all day long. I placed my order and then all of a sudden I overhear a customer behind me being told by the lady behind the counter that they are out of cream corn. Wow what a disappointment at 5:45 on a Friday evening to be out of anything is ridiculous. It may sound crazy but literally the cream corn is why I stopped here because I love it. I will say the service was a little shall we say not good today they seem to be a little bit dis organized. The barbecue was good, the briskets always perfect the sausage was great. You just can't be out stuff!! Two stars just because the brisket was good. Zero starts her being out of the cream corn. OK I felt a little bad about giving them two stars when I've had a near perfect visits for all these years. When I get home I open my bag and discover that I've been given moist brisket instead of the lean brisket that I ordered. So basically I spent almost 40 bucks and literally did not get what I ordered. The two stars will stand #disappointedcustomer. read more

I was talking bbq with someone, she said SM was really good, I said: well I can't agree with u on that! We then discovered she was not talking about this location in wolf ranch, and I've had this happen b4 where the same restaurant can be good at 1 location & bad at another. This place was awful, only 1 sauce?!? who does that?! I get the "paper plate plastic silverware cookout chic" they are going for, but it just came off as cheap, as did their food, the meat & sides were like a 2 on a 10 scale, if I want good bbq + good atmosphere I guess I will stick with tried & true Salt Lick! read more

I'm sorry to say that this place has been really inconsistent for the last couple of weeks, so that is not a big deal but Today it was just gross and the service was so slow for dinner! The food was cold, they ran out of lettuce for their chicken tacos (plus they doubled their chicken taco price). The brisket was fatty (I ordered the lean), I ended up throwing out most of my food. The worst part was seeing all the unhappy faces of customers waiting for their food. It's really sad to see my favorite BBQ place go down hill so fast. This review is for breakfast and lunch: Today I went in for a few breakfast tacos to eat leisurely while I killed some time before work. I got a chorizo, potato and egg taco, and a sausage, potato and cheese taco. Both were quite good, but the chorizo wins hands down. The sausage was good, but this time around it seemed a bit too salty for me. Chorizo was greasy but flavor was packing! It was stuffed so full, I almost went up to ask for more tortillas. I love the iced tea here. If I had drank anymore, I could have floated to work. Lunch, I normally get a sausage or turkey wrap, with jalapeno chips and iced tea. Always fresh and good, but that sausage can give ya some serious heartburn. And I never get heartburn. I do not normally order meat plates at bbq joints, for the sheer fact that they are a bit too pricey. Not much different here. All in all, great for a quick breakfast or lunch, clean restaurant, from what I have seen. The only thing, other than prices, that could use improvement: the fried okra. Every time I order it, it seems like it is under cooked. Not only that, it also seems like the okra is under ripe (picked too early) It is often hard to chew, and has "splinters" in it. I love fried okra, I can eat it like popcorn. I grew up on eating okra right from our garden, getting here was a bit of a disappointment. But hey, you had me at chorizo! read more

I ordered over $30 worth of food from Smokey Mo's through door dash for me and some coworkers, whenever the food was delivered it was missing one of the meals. After it was dropped off I called Smokey mo's to tell them I was missing part of my meal and the person I spoke to assured me they could come drop it off to me since I was so close by. I waited 45 min for her to come, and when I called she told me she "couldn't find the building" and the location she went into said there was no one by that name that worked there? She did not try to call me or anytning and never tried to call to let me know she couldn't deliver it. She told me there was no way they could refund me and she was "too busy to drop it off" at that time. I would've appreciated a phone call or more efforts into helping get my food delivered. read more

My employer first introduced me to Smokey Mo's BBQ at a luncheon around Thanksgiving when he bought everyone Smokey Mo's turkey. It was delicious! It's also dangerous - since then I've stopped by and picked up food for myself (turkey sandwich, awesome!) and ordered food for my family. We always end up with WAY too much food and it's always great. They have excellent service at this location, too. They've had no problem with last minute order changes and are always quick and accommodating! I'd definitely recommend them to anyone looking for some quick barbeque. read more

I really wanted to love Smokey Mo's. It's name sounds every bit of authentic Texas BBQ. And don't get me wrong, it is authentic. But maybe, dare I say, too authentic? Well only authentic if that means a boring selection of sides combined with a dingy locale and run down tables. Now all that would be fine if I felt really welcome and part of a BBQ family but I didn't. The atmosphere felt very Luby's cafeteria vice down home, country cooking. Now don't get me wrong, the meats were very good and tender. And their honey BBQ sauce was decent too. But I just don't have an overwhelming desire to return. And I probably won't. The guys are always so nice and quick. Food is always good to great. One time I was half way home from picking up a to go order and the manager called and told me they forgot to give me a bag, he offered to bring it to me and gave me my meal for free. I was super impressed, he didn't have to do that, I wasn't mad and understand everyone makes mistakes and insisted I didn't mind paying but he insisted. Smokey Mo's is, by my estimation, tied for first place in the Georgetown Barbecue category with the Pit. Starting with the beef, their meat is simply excellent: moist, tender and tasty. The chicken falls off the bone and has a perfect texture. Their turkey is juicy and savory. All the meat choices are good. The sides are superior to all their competitors, I prefer the buttered new potatoes but the fried okra comes in for a close second place. Drinks are self-serve and the tables are clean-up on the way out. The whole restaurant is clean and the tables are comfortable enough for a BBQ restaurant. It's also nice to find a restaurant that still serves baked potatoes and theirs are pretty darn good. This location has one less than superior blemish: the Georgetown location and parking is way over on the East side of Wolf Ranch with two handicapped only spaces in front of their door. Expect to have to park farther out in the lot. All in all, it's a small price to pay for a superior meal. read more

This is my favorite place to eat BBQ in central Texas. Their moist brisket is awesome (and they don't charge extra for it) and I love the fried okra! This store is a nightmare every time we are there. It has taken up to 45 minutes to get 3 plates on a weekday night. This trip, 2 out of 4 plates were completely wrong, it took repeating the error 4 times before anyone started to fix it, we had to beg for 4 measly slices of white bread, and after all that drama trying to get our order correct, they had the utter nerve to charge us 50cents for butter that should have already been on the corn on the cob. Now, my husband is worshiping the porcelain god from the food poisoning he got from eating the cold sausage he was served. DO NOT EAT HERE! read more

My wife and I are from the Houston Area and came to Georgetown Friday March 10th to attend the NWTF banquet, which happened to be catered by Smokey Mo's. What a treat! The BBQ was great and my wife said it was the best smoked turkey she had ever had. The brisket was oh so moist and the beans were excellent, along with the potatoes. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the portions were generous, with extra food to go around. We will certainly stop by the next time in town and were happy to see they have a location in Willis Texas now, which we drive by several times a month. We plan on giving them a try there as well. You are constantly running out of food, missing orders and serving cold food. The last 3 times we went were a disaster. Growing up with Memphis-style BBQ, I am biased. I went into the restaurant expecting the Texas-style BBQ, and even then, this place missed the mark. The most important criteria for an enjoyable barbecue experience for me personally is, in order of importance, 1. the barbecue sauce, 2. the sides, and 3. the sweet tea. Nothing else matters. The barbecue sauce was... ketchup. Seriously. It tasted like ketchup with a bit of Worcestershire sauce. The sides were lacking, too. There were no barbecue baked beans there, as usual for Texan BBQ joints (they like their pinto beans, for some reason). The sandwich was alright. Not the best, but it wasn't BAD. I ordered "buttered potatoes" and they came with zero butter. Or salt. Yuck. The sweet tea wasn't really that sweet. However, I like tons of sugar. I'm bad. I hate leaving such horrible reviews for BBQ around the Austin area, but come on, people. Get it right. There's got to be SOMEwhere that has barbecue baked beans and good pulled pork around here.
