I have always been a big fan of Smokey Mo's! I have even eaten at this location since it opened, always trying to boost it up. However, when someone or something shows you who they are, believe them. $20 for a two meat combo is stupid. It's even worse when they get you with the extra charge for your normal meat selections, which isn't listed. If you don't get chicken or turkey, you're probably paying extra. Want brisket? Extra fee. Want moist brisket? Extra fee. You're paying extra. Everything is extra, and the food is not good. I ordered the two meat combo, like usual. Moist brisket. I got the driest, worst brisket in existence. Ordered sausage, which like moist brisket, was extra. Everything is extra and nothing is beyond mediocre. Even mediocre, I come back, but not after the last time. Burnt, dry brisket. This is the flat and not the point I paid $1 extra for. Green beans had zero flavor and the potatoes had water all in it -- it wasn't butter. Just a nasty meal, which could have been better at ANY other place. Look at the portions as well. Just absolute slop that they serve. I sent a message through the app, which I never do. Again, I did eat here a lot. No response. Whatever, it shows what they think of you and me. Look at my five-star review of Smokey Mo's from seven years ago and go to that Parmer location.

Glad to see some bbq options in Hutto. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was pretty cold in there, but on a hot day it felt great. There is plenty of seating for families or larger groups. The station of pickles and onions and utensils was kept tidy and clean. The baked potato side was delicious, but there was hardly any in the container just lots of cheese and onion toppings which was disappointing. The flavors on the meats overall are a bit plain when competing against Texas, or even Austin bbq, but in a pinch when you have a craving this will do. They have sauces and merch for sale on the way to the order counter as well.

What a great addition to the City of Hutto. It was our first time visiting this establishment and we were pleased with the customer service, cleanliness, and overall food quality. The cashier who greeted us was an absolute pleasure to work with. I initially wanted to order a family plate with pork belly but upon her recommendation, I went with the pork loin because she's obsessed with it. I can see why. It's absolutely delicious. The ribs and brisket were also delicious and very filling. I thought the brisket was a tiny bit dry but I can be really picky with my red meats. I have always preferred mine a little raw The mac and cheese is decadent. Very rich and very creamy, with lots of cheddar notes. The coleslaw was fresh and nice and crunchy. I wouldn't mind coming back. The family plate wasn't cheap but it's really nice to have enough leftovers for the next two days. In this case, I feel it's definitely worth the money. We will definitely be coming back.

New location in Hutto across from the high school. My wife had the brisket sandwich and I tried a two meat plate with potato salad and beans. The brisket sandwich was very good, albeit a bit overdone and dry. I had brisket and ribs with potato salad and beans. The potato salad was surprisingly good as were the beans. Trinity. A great place for a quick lunch. Not exactly world-class barbecue but pretty good nevertheless.

I have been craving ribs for about a week so me and my mom got some bbq tonight. I've only had Smokey mo's one time. This time was at the new location in hutto. It was not busy inside so we got our order pretty quick. It is nice and clean inside. I ordered the pork rib plate which comes with three ribs and two sides. My two sides were the Mac and cheese and green beans. The Mac and cheese was pretty good just missing some salt and pepper. The green beans were good too. The only thing that I wasn't really a fan of was the bbq sauce. It was very vinegary. This meal definitely satisfied my craving. I will definitely be back for some bbq one day.

Paid $91 for this meal , Order was ready fast but The small family pack had plenty of meat but came with small sides and also no bread or bbq sauce even though that's included in the price!

I ordered off of Uber eats . The flavor of everything seems pretty delicious however I specifically asked for moist briskest & they gave me lean brisket which I do not eat it's very dry and just not to my satisfaction. So I paid for a two meat plate & only got one . Please pay attention to order notes . Moist brisket = fatty brisket . Maybe whoemever saw the note does know this idk . A bit sad about my food as I was really craving brisket & looking forward to enjoying my meal .

The food was decent, but we enjoyed the sides much better than the meat. When ordering they asked what pieces of chicken we wanted and didn't give us any of the requested pieces. The Mac and cheese and cream corn were definitely the stars of the show. The coleslaw didn't taste bad, I just wasn't a fan of the texture. If you feel like driving there are definitely better options for the same price.

I try to give places a chance before deciding they are not for me…read more When I first moved to Hutto, I was intrigued by Southside Market and their history. I had known about the historic location in Elgin that claims to be the oldest barbecue spot in Texas. They have updated their processes to keep up with the times and in the last 15 years have begun opening new locations throughout Central Texas, with one in the Co-Op District of Hutto. I have had plenty of barbecue in my time, from chains to Texas Monthly recognized and Michelin star winning locations. I understand that not all barbecue is the same, but I also understand that barbecue served all day like at Southside Market can still be good. I do not think that is truly the case, though. My first experience was when Southside Market catered a holiday party for my work. I thought it was alright, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, saying that it was catered. You do not judge a meal based on it being kept warm in a pan that was probably cooked at 8 am that morning or the night prior. It is not the same game. I went back a few months later for a birthday lunch and got their combo plate with sausage and sliced brisket. My first thought: This tasted like it was catered. The Jalapeño Cheddar sausage was decent but tasted a little too smoky, and the brisket really did nothing for me. The side of potato salad was good, but you cannot mess up potato salad that badly. Their mac and cheese was good, I think. I do not remember it whatsoever. I went back recently after almost nine months with a desire to get a baked potato with chopped brisket for lunch. I got it without sour cream but kept the rest of the toppings of cheddar cheese, chives, and butter. I took it to go, which I rarely do, but it was a busy day. I cannot describe how disappointing the potato was. First, the potato was smaller than I had expected. The saucy chopped brisket tasted like a smoked Sloppy Joe thrown on a spud. It was really too smoky for me to even enjoy it. I felt like I was eating a chimney. It did nothing to raise my spirits and like that, I was forever out on Southside Market. I am probably one in a million because they have steady foot traffic inside on a frequent basis, but I wonder if the name is doing all the work. The staff was great and the space is well done and spacious, but the food actually has to be good to make that a plus factor. I have no idea if the food is any better at their original Elgin location, but I would rather go to Smokey Mo's across the tracks in Hutto because the potato is a good size and the brisket had a good flavor to it. Here, I just was not impressed. I will not ever return unless I am invited with co-workers or something, and even if I am, I will debate the idea of saying yes.

With so many Texas Monthly Top 50 joints and honorable mentions nearby, it's easy to forget there's a BBQ joint right in your own backyard. BBQ Fiends is a food truck in Hutto that recently received an honorable mention from Texas Monthly, so it immediately moved to the top of my list. On an early Saturday morning, I stopped by Adam Orgain Park for the Catfish Derby. When that wrapped up, I parked at Rockabilly Brewing and was third or fourth in line at BBQ Fiends just before they opened. I think the best way to judge BBQ is by trying the brisket, pork ribs, and whatever sausage includes cheese, jalapeño, or chorizo. Their Texas Trinity plate, priced at $33, covered all three and came with one side. I went with the street corn. DANG. This holds up against some of the best BBQ I've had in Austin. If they keep up this quality, I can easily see them cracking the Top 50 list. The brisket was juicy, just like it should be. The sausage was bold and flavorful without being overly spicy. The ribs had a sweet, candied flavor. They were probably the least strong of the three, but still very good. The street corn was a standout and might be my favorite version I've had anywhere. I really appreciate when BBQ joints lean into their cultural influences, and the Spanish fusion here is excellent. Pairing the food with drinks from Rockabilly made for a perfect afternoon. You really can't ask for much more. I'm already planning to go back. With BBQ this good just minutes from home, there's no reason not to.

I reached out to them ahead of time to let them know we'd have a group ordering meals, and they couldn't have been more accommodating. The owner went above and beyond, personally walking each order to our group one by one, which I truly appreciated-it's a lot of work, and it didn't go unnoticed! The food was phenomenal. Everyone in our group raved about how delicious it was, and even the pickiest eaters (including kids!) cleaned their plates. I ordered the two-meat plate with turkey sausage, rice, and potato salad, and everything was bursting with flavor--no complaints whatsoever. I had a bite of the the tacos and chopped brisket sandwich. They are not shy with the meat and the it was chef's kiss. This BBQ truck is a gem, and we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend them for great food and outstanding service!

Late posting this review. I've been here twice with my husband now (recent visit was this past…read moreSaturday). I only have pictures from our first visit, but the second time around I got the fried pork belly fried rice as my side to go with the pork ribs. The pork ribs are moist, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious! On my first visit, I got the potato salad as my side. It was okay, just not as flavorful as I personally like -- but everyone has their own preference when it comes to potato salad. I ended up adding a little extra seasoning to mine, which is why I decided to try a different side the second time around. The pork belly fried rice paired really well with the ribs! The BBQ sauce could use a little more flavor in my opinion, and the portion they give is pretty small, so I ended up adding some of my own sauce. But the pickled onions and pickles on the side? SO good. Especially the onions -- they had such a distinct flavor that I could honestly eat them by themselves. They reminded me of the pickled veggies you get on a bánh mì sandwich, just without being overly vinegary. Honestly, if they ever made a brisket bánh mì sandwich using those pickled onions and veggies, it would probably be amazing! My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. Our first time coming, we almost turned around because we were in my husband's coupe, but the second visit we took my SUV instead. Don't let the road scare you away though -- the food is worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful both times we visited. The location is also super convenient for us since we live nearby. Definitely happy we found this spot!

First, let's talk about the location. It's tucked down a bumpy road between two duplex apartments. It sounds a little sketchy, but trust me, it is so worth it (definitely drive your truck or SUV if you have one!). This place is a true hidden gem. They have a dope setup with covered outdoor seating if you want to chill and eat there, but we ended up taking ours to go. Now, for the food. I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.

The inside was vey inviting and tastefully decorated. We had the Beef Bulgogi Bao, this was really yummy. The bao was soft and delightful. The beef had a sweet bulgogi glaze that worked really well with it. The rest of the toppings added a nice balance without overpowering the meat. My only wish was that it was 4 baos and not two since they are so small. The highlight was the Firecracker Shrimp. Be warned this is not a spicy dish like you might think from the name. The crispy shrimp was crunchy and not soggy at all, it felt pretty clean and not greasy. It came with salad, rice and a spicy soy sauce and it was just so good. With 12 shrimp, it's definitely shareable between 2 people. Lastly we had the Vietnamese iced coffee which was $6. It tasted like Ovaltine and was mostly ice with just a few sips. I wouldn't recommend it unless the cup size is increased or the price is decreased. So overall, it's a bit pricey. The menu was also a little confusing. We checked online prior to coming and they had a lot of stuff but when at the restaurant, there were only a few items listed which caught us off guard. We actually ended up ordering the wrong item (firecracker shrimp when we actually wanted dynamite shrimp, ultimately it worked out cuz it was delicious but the problem still stands). So those are the only cons I can think off. Other than that, The place was fantastic. Did not think Hutto would have a place of this caliber. We will be back to try the rest of the items, it all looked so good. Definitely will be a repeat customer. 4.5 stars rounded up for now.

On the other hand, my dining partner's pork chop was impressive and he ate every bite. He said he would be back again for the pork chop! It is a unifying meal of blue-collared and white-collared people alike. It is a food that unifies the vast cultures of the south. There is no debate when there is a Chicken Fried Steak. Soul food and southern food are so severely important to people who were raised in the south because the overall feeling of those cuisines is that it feels like their Grandma is cooking dinner. Now if you look at my Yelp profile picture for a fraction of a second and maybe stereotype a little, you can accurately assume that my Grandma's cooking would fit in the latter and you would maybe wonder if my grandmother knows what seasoning is. If you have had her chili, you would say no. The famous Texan Cafe & Pie Shop in Hutto is a classic Southern diner that is always a perfect pick-me-up meal and is a truest staple of the area. When I first visited Hutto before moving I looked for places to try, and the abundant and sheer quantity of reviews for Texan Cafe made it clear that I had to try it. That was just over a year ago, and I still remember parking my car in the lot across the street and walking into the cozy diner with wood chairs and booths, red tablecloths, and so much decor on the walls it might be a museum, and I felt right about moving to Hutto. I was seated immediately and almost instantly ordered the Chicken Fried Steak smothered with white gravy, of course, with sides of Fried Okra and Mashed Potatoes. It was not long before the beautiful plate hit my table, and I destroyed everything on that plate. When I thought it was over, I was handed the dessert menu that was two full rows worth of pie and other options. I was mesmerized by the length of it and was overwhelmed by the options. I texted my parents to tell them and suddenly I was going back to San Antonio with slices on slices worth of pie for them to have. When my parents came up to help move me in, they wanted to go to the Texan. They were impressed with how great the meal was alongside the pies. Pies that they bought extra of to take back with them to San Antonio. When I started my job, the first meal they took us new hires to was the Texan. I tried their Blue Plate Special and found out that Chicken Fried Pork Chops exist and fell in love with that. When my brother came and visited meeting my parents and me in Hutto, we went to the Texan. We enjoyed their appetizers and everyone had to have a slice of pie. Options for everyone. When a friend came and visited, she took a solo trip to the Texan while I was at work then told me she took the best nap of her life after. My buddy and I decided to go randomly one day after work to try their Hot Pie with Brandy Sauce. That thing is a tank and is worth a visit to try alone. What a sweet creation. When my girlfriend visited me in Hutto, I took her to the Texan and she will randomly text me about how much she misses the pie. I try to get her a slice every time she comes and visits. It is her favorite thing. It is clear to see why it is a favorite to so many because everyone I have taken to the Texan has left a fan wanting to come back. I brought my grandparents home a full Blueberry pie from the Texan Cafe which my grandma told me "was the best I have even since I was a little girl. Not too sweet with a great crust. Just right. A blueberry pie is my favorite." I know this review is less of a review and more of a collection of vignettes of many stories built inside the walls of the Texan Cafe, but that is what is so beautiful about southern hospitality and southern diners. That is why there is so much decor about the extensive history of Texan Cafe and the culture of Hutto on the walls. I went back this afternoon for the first time in a short while, but I find myself continuously impressed by the quality of the food, the efficiency as a whole, and just how welcoming everyone is inside. Their pies are just truly next level. Today, I went for the Chicken Fried Pork Chop Blue Plate Special which is truly heaven sent, potato salad, fried okra, and a slice of their cherry pie. It is a meal you feel blessed to eat and a restaurant you love supporting because of it. Every pie I have had at the Texan is better than any other pie I have eaten. They could be a full time bakery and still be the monument of Hutto. It just happens they have food that warms your heart too. RIYL: Grandma's cooking if it was not dry
