I stopped by today for lunch and the service was amazing. I was greeted by the entire staff when i walked in the door and the manager, Jose was patient and helpful as I tried to decide what to get. A relatively short review. (My readers know I tend to over share, so key word relatively!) Had it delivered, so can only comment on the food, not the dining in experience or service. Trust me, I'm your girl for detailed reviews. This is my version of short. Haha. I have had a lot of Texas Barbecue. Was an obsessive follower of The Texas Monthly Top 50 for many years, have been to most of the veteran winners all across the state. This is being shared so that readers can understand I have high standards for barbecue. .5 pounds Brisket, almost always the star of the show. Some moist and tender pieces, some more dry. Some marbling, not enough. 6.5/10. .25 pounds Pork Loin. Also inconsistent. The worst pieces were overcooked and even burnt. A couple did have good flavor and tenderness. 5.5/10. .25 pounds Pork Ribs. Aside from some parts too chewy, the sweetness and rich flavor was actually very well infused. Could have used maybe a little more moistness, but excellent nevertheless. 7/10. Pint of Macaroni & Cheese. Not enough cheesiness or flavor. Bland overall. 3.5/10. Pint of Pinto Beans. Smokey Mo's advertises these as "award winning"? What awards? As good as a seasoned can of HEB beans. Granted, HEB has some quality food, but still. If I can get it from a can, it isn't that epic. 5/10. Pint of Roasted Creamed Corn. Now, these should be "award winning"! The right amount of sweet to savory. The additional parsley and parmesan cheese are perfect choices. 8.5/10. Mo's Original Barbecue Sauce. Has a distinct tone tinge of spiciness. Not too much, but I would call it more spicy than sweet. Not usually a huge fan of barbecue sauces- camp you shouldn't need condiments when the meat it good enough- but it was a nice addition, better than average. 6/10. Complimentary bread, onions, pickles, as expected, no complaints- in fact, the pickles were actually fresher and maybe even higher quality than average. I know inflation is inevitable, but around $40 all said and done feels very high for what was given, and since barbeque is always on the higher side for a casual meal, the quality needs to be high, too. No room for average when they are charging this much TLDR? Too much average and good enough from Mo for me to see him again. read more

I got the BBQ Salad and loved it! The pork loin was good and the salad tasted nice and fresh. My husband got a two meat plate and his brisket and pulled pork were good too. Best fast casual BBQ place in Texas! I think this is a great bbq place to eat at. It was delicious! It's a no nonsense place with plenty of seating. The staff were friendly & helpful! I just love love love this location! The last two nights we've orders from here. As soon you walk you'll see how clean everything is. The workers are so nice and helpful. Even when you call over the phone to make an order they're so nice. Not only all that but the food is DELICIOUS!! My husband and I get the 3 plate meal. First let me say this is the best BBQ I've had in San Antonio!!!! Now let's get to my uber eats delivery. My order was missing 1 of the meats, I called to let them know. They answered the phone quickly and was very friendly. Once they knew I didn't have it he offered to owe it to me or I could come pick it up with a free dessert!! I was at the SA poker room and didn't want to leave, but wanted my missing brisket. The manager offered to drive it to me. He brought it with a free dessert!!! I know you're supposed to order brisket at a good bbq place, and there's nothing wrong with the brisket here, but take my advice and go for the ribs and chicken instead. They're delectable. We ordered a turkey with the trimmings. We went to pick up and when we opened it was solid frozen everything my friend took it back and told the person about it he said not possible in short words I'm making it up. My friend showed him and his response was ( oh that one came from corporate. To me a sorry excuse. Then he took it back and offered one that my friend touched and seemed to be ok but when I checked it was still little bit frozen but the trimmings were solid frozen. We decided to just heat it up slowly. The turkey was little dry but it did had good flavor. The stuffing was very salty and the green beans. What you need to know is that Smokey Mo's BBQ is the BEST BBQ joint we've found in San Antonio. I could name off some (well known) others that can't even come close, but you get my drift. For Labor Day, we got the #2 Special, 3 pounds of meat (we got Brisket, Sausage and Chicken), 3 1-quart sides (Slaw, Creamed Corn and Potato Salad) and accompaniments of bread, BBQ sauce, pickles and onions. We picked all this up & took it to the daughter's house. I mean to tell you, EVERYthing was good. I haven't been here in such a long time, and now i remember why. This BBQ is terrible. I ordered the 2 meat plate with brisket, chicken and green beans. Everything is flavorless. The brisket is especially disappointing. Its rubbery and too tough to chew. I had to just spit it out after awhile. Such a waste of money. I've eaten at Smokey Mo's too many times to mention, here and other locations -- all of them being very satisfying. Yeah, there are other BBQ joints with better reps, but I get what I want right here at good ole neighborhood Smokey Mo's reliably and consistently without standing in line and begging. The brisket & ribs are solid every time, and I love their sauce being a sauce kind of guy. My latest trick is that I have found some small plastic containers of 6 in a package from Target that are perfect size for 1/4 lb. chopped brisket for one sandwich. I get a pound and a half of hand-chopped brisket from Smokey Mo's, fill each little container and freeze them for later throw-down sandwiches when the urge arises. Perfect! read more

Also got a chopped baker with turkey for $8.50. I didn't realize that it comes with chopped beef and if you change the meat, it costs $1 more. They ought to just let you pick the meat - weird. $8.50 was too pricey in my opinion for 1/4# of turkey on a 50 cent tater. Had cheese, chives, and sour cream too. We just moved up to this part of town. We tried a couple of other places and they were just okay. But this place? Outstanding! The ribs are cooked to perfection 9as is the brisket etc.) I love the potato salad! The corn, mac n cheese etc are all great. They offer up tons of food for your BBQ plate. They have a simple menu that gives you the choices on your meats. I would recommend the two or three meat combo if you are having a tough time. They also give samples for you to try. I got the two meat sample with brisket and ribs. The meat was soft but not too moist where it will fall apart. It held its form well. They have a bunch of sides that are ok, but you that depends on what you like with your meat. read more
