We went to San Antonio for my son's Boot Camp graduation for the Air Force. The first day we were here, we wanted to try some Texas BBQ and found this place. I ordered the one meat plate with cole slaw and bacon cheddar potatoes and it was yummy. The coleslaw was just right on the sweetness and the potatoes were buttery and cheesy with chives and a little bacon. My mom ordered the pork belly burnt ends. They were sweet and savory with a nice BBQ flavor. She ordered the green beans and creamed corn. The green beans had a smoky taste and the corn was sweet and creamy. My son who is now an Airman wanted to try Smokey Mo's so we returned. This time, I ordered the two meat plate with smoked turkey and had to get the pork belly burnt ends. My sides were a green salad and creamy potato salad. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants some good ole' Texas barbecue. The staff was nice and the restaurant was comfy and cozy. I ordered in the app which was easy and allowed me to decide just what I wanted. Drove up, told them I'd ordered online and it was bagged and ready for me. No one in front of me in the line. It smelled fantastic all the drive home. My car was heated and I have heated seats....now why am I telling you this? Because once I got it all set up it was lukewarm at best. But I dug in anyway. My double corn was great as usual but the problems begin when I tried to eat my burnt ends. There is burnt and too done. My plastic fork broke off when I tried to spear my burnt ends. Sad. But I gathered it all up, added more sauce to help loosen it and threw it in the microwave. 30 seconds at a time. Then let it sit in that sauce a while. It helped but I think if it had been hot I would not have had the problem. The ends were still very chewy but that's OK. No more forks broken. Great taste...I like the ends because they are chewy and I like to split them in half to make a sandwich as well. I still have one rib and some ends to enjoy for lunch tomorrow. The corn is fantastic with some cheese in it. I had to get double corn I like it so much. The lady at the window was nice. I'm sure temperature is not a problem if you eat there and frankly not been a problem for my pickup before. So it's not a normal thing. So stop in and check it out. Honest review. Got 3 meat rib, sausage, and brisket. Sides were coleslaw, Mac and cheese. Sausage was decent on par with other local places, ribs were ok, couldn't really get any smoke flavor and had to drown them in mo's spicy. Now for the brisket, brisket was dry, smoke ring almost non existent had to smother its in bbg to mask the dryness. Mid. Wanted bbq and this was the first place that popped up in my google search. It had good Yelp reviews so I decided to drive over there. I got the two meat plate with brisket, chicken, mac & cheese and cheesy potatoes. I also got their limited time chocolate pie. Everything smelled sooo good. The pie looked great, the potatoes looked bland but the rest looked good. The chicken was yummy! It had a lot of pepper flavor but was good. The Mac and cheese reminded me of chick-fil-a's and was good too. The brisket was terrible. It was tough and chewy. The potatoes were an absolute shit show. The worst potatoes I've ever had. No flavor whatsoever and tasted like it was sitting in water. The pie was not that good either. It was super sweet but tasted like they used a super cheap chocolate or oil instead of butter to make it. I took a few bites and some bites had an odd taste to the crust. Then there would be a random huge chunk of chocolate chip. Chocolate fudge pies are my absolute favorite so I was HIGHLY disappointed with this. All together, my 2 meat plate and slice of chocolate pie cost me $23.25. I only ate the Mac & cheese and chicken. Everything else was thrown away. The paper it was wrapped had the flaked seasoning all over it, and the pork ends were swimming in it. The parts that hadn't caramelized had the seasoning in a cakey texture. My whole family hates their bbq sauce, so that hinders us being able to eat unless we take this to go. We also feel they are limited on sides and they are not that noteworthy. It's all freshly cooked but not the way we like them. We like buttered potatoes but theirs are bland. The corn is okay. Now what we really like from Smokey Moe's is their chicken. 5/5. I am surprised they do not have french fries, but the buttered potatoes were ok. Love the generously stocked condiment station, plenty of pickles and onions which I love to pile on my brisket. The banana pudding actually had bananas! The chocolate cake was a good basic cake just like you make at home, nothing fancy, but hits the spot. Generous slice for about $5, great to take home to eat with ice cream. There was a large lunch time crowd of mostly men on work lunch, retirees, and several soldiers. I went here for dinner while on a business trip to San Antonio, and on the recommendation of several local coworkers. When I realized that it was a chain, my expectations dropped significantly. I ordered the brisket (because Texas) and jalapeño sausage. The place is setup for quick service, and seems like your typical BBQ joint, so nothing special as far as ambiance, but basically what I was expecting from a quick service restaurant. The food came out so quickly, that I barely had time to fill my drink and sit down when they called my order. The brisket was flavorful, juicy and melt-in-your-mouth tender, much to my surprise. The jalapeño sausage was pretty tasty, but the casing was kind of tough. Not a deal-breaker, but a little chewier than I was expecting. The mac and cheese was flavorful and creamy, and the potato salad was pretty decent as well. While this isn't the best BBQ I've ever had, for a chain, it was definitely respectable. read more

Good spot for lunch - order at the counter and food is ready by the time you get your fountain drink and find a spot to sit. Furniture is wooden and decor is typical of a barbecue restaurant. They have spicy and regular barbecue sauce, both were very good. Also comes with white bread if you choose (optional). The meat was cooked nicely, the brisket was a little dry but still flavorful with a nice smoke ring, the chopped was absolutely delicious! They have warm barbecue sauce over near the drinks which was not labeled, I was a bit disappointed to see that when I was throwing away my meal because I would've liked to have some. There is also a cooler past the drinks with a lot of different toppings, like pickles and lemons, etc, also not labeled and covered with a solid lid, which would have been nice to know. ALL items were seasoned with TOO MUCH SALT! I visited the location on 1604 Loop near the Schaenfeld Rd intersection at dinner time on a Tuesday evening. There is modified table wait service where patrons order at a counter and the wait service delivers beverages and meals to the table. Service is very speedy and, for my single dinner visit, remarkably attentive and responsive. The ambience is typical BBQ joint, with just the right smoky aroma, without being heavy or gritty and with a pleasantly moderate sound level -- had I had a companion, we could sustain an enjoyable conversation. Two people at the register and it took 15 minutes to place an order with five people in each line. The person that took my order did not know how to count back change. She had to break out a calculator and Consult with a manager. My bill came up to 3790 and when the machine said $two dollars ninety cents , I told her that I will give her a dime and that she can give me 3 one dollar bills. This had her in total confusion.
