Despite the fact I felt like an old lady as students came in and out with their friends, I can't get over how much I enjoyed my experience here. It's been a while since I've went to a large smoothie chain. They used to house products that were high in fat and sugar and hid behind what looked to be a healthy product. Once again, I needed a place to work for in the area and saw a spacious smoothie spot so I figured I would try it out. An unrecognizable menu was spotted on the modern screens that are hung behind the counter. Long are the days where menus are printed for smoothies. The people behind the counter were pleasant and fun, and although they were also probably half my age, I didn't feel funny working there. In fact, the vibe was great. The staff didn't mind working or working with each other and you can tell. I also have to make a point to say how clean this spot was. Chain/corporate spots can get messy, but this Smoothie king not only had spots to sit and chat/work, but they had a fully clean and functional bathroom for customers. My smoothie was the Be Kale. The worker who helped us had suggestions on the menu, which is welcome. Downside is this location seems tired. Floors were mildly dirty, the walls need painting and the counter has this weird coat of splotchy glossy material that looks like a pool of spilled water. I usually get my smoothie from the Tropical Smoothie Cafe Hicksville but today, I just didn't want to make that drive down there and decided to give this place a try since it was a few blocks away from Roosevelt Field. I ordered my usual, strawberry banana smoothie and it was way too sweet for my liking. I saw them putting a load full of strawberry syrup in the blender to make it and the consistency of the smoothie was rather liquidity than thick and creamy. There wasn't enough yogurt in it and I couldn't taste the banana in the smoothie either. It tasted more like a strawberry slushie than a smoothie. Their also pricier than most smoothie places and the smallest size they carry is a 20 ounce priced at $5.29. Update: the staffs here are very helpful and willing to answer any questions you may have and not a bad choice to get a smoothie to stop your sugar cravings like me or as a meal replacement. I ordered the nutty super grain smoothie under the vegan section except I ordered mine without the apple juice that is usually included. The wait was slightly extensive for a moderately slow customer crowd so that might be one downside. The employees seem to go on their own time as opposed to the customers. When I finally received my smoothie after about 10 minutes I was greatly satisfied with the taste of my smoothie. The girl behind the counter . . . while she was very nice, she could not provide an answer with regard to the beneifts of adding the protein powder (neither could I, that is why I asked) -- but if she is selling the stuff you would think that she would have been trained to know what the add-in's were for.
