The interior is clean and well-decorated. The restaurant also has paintings for sale. Our waitress was very friendly and always smiling!!! For our entrees, I ordered the honey mustard chick'n sammy. It consists of a chick'n patty, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, red onion, and mayo on ciabatta and served with honey mustard on the side. I ordered mine without the red onion. Believe me when I say that the patty tastes just like chicken, only less dense! The sandwich was delicious! For my side, I ordered the mac and cheese. Once again, you'd never know the difference between vegan mac and cheese vs. regular mac. The macaroni noodles were perfectly cooked and the "cheez" sauce was very creamy and had both black pepper and garlic powder. Garlicky and spicy, one of the best combinations!!! My husband ordered the buffalo mac wrap with a side of tater tots. He loved both of them! I tried the buffalo chick'n and it was very moist and not too overwhelmingly vinegary like you sometimes get when you order something with buffalo sauce on it. I also tried the tater tots and they were perfectly crisp and not greasy at all! Tree Hugger, you have gained two more customers!!! We will definitely be back!!! Keep up the great work!!!

This place absolutely blew me away. If I could give every single thing, I tried there 1 million out of 10 I would. I got the BBQ Sammy w/ gluten-free bread: 10/10 A cup of chili, also a 10/10!! because the food was so good. I decided to go back to the counter with a sweet tooth and bought the last strawberry lemon pop tart and I could not believe how good it was. This place is so worth the money and an incredible vegan restaurant! Super kind people that work behind the counter as well. Thank you for such a great first impression of Kansas City!

Okay Modern Market, I see you…read more I was on the hunt for a healthy-ish spot for lunch (I mean, hello it is January), when I came upon Modern Market Eatery on Yelp. Upon doing some research I learned it's a scratch kitchen specializing in clean eats, and that it's a chain. A win for the health options, a ding for the chain, but not all chains are bad, an we are living in a time where there are some winners. So, I packed myself up and headed down the road to Prairie Village. It's still fairly new, and it has that squeaky clean feeling to it when you arrive. Inside it's counter service and you seat yourself (they will bring the food to you). It kind of reminded me of how Noodles and Company felt when they first became a thing way back in the early 2000s. I ordered a thai salad that came in at under 400 calories so I was honestly skeptical at how big or flavorful it would really be when it arrived, and holy cow was it good. The chicken was cold, but still held some flavor, the dressing was great, there were fresh veggies, pickled onions. It was one of the best 400 calorie meals I've had in a long time. My dad ordered the salmon curry and he also enjoyed his though I didn't try it so jury's out on my opinion! I left full and happy to have discovered this spot. I'll be back soon!

The sauce that was on my sandwich was different than the picture online. I did get my order through Uber Eats. The veggies were very fresh and crispy on the sandwich. The fire roasted veggies were not seasoned except for a bit of turmeric but it didn't really have a taste. Overall the food was good and very fresh but the price was a bit high.

It's a bit pricey, but the quality is high, service is friendly, and there is plenty to choose from. Parking was easy as well. Now let me just say that my wife and I ordered and ended up switching our entrees. She loved this dressing more than I did. As someone who lives in St. Louis and visits Kansas City several times per year, I always make it…read moremy mission to stop by Cafe Gratitude for a meal while I'm in town! I tried Cafe Gratitude for the first time a few years ago, and I haven't stopped thinking about this place since. They provide more than just food... it's a whole EXPERIENCE. I've always been very warmly greeted at the front entrance. Sometimes while visiting, I've had a short wait. Other times are more empty, such as when there's a Chiefs game. All of the employees are extremely kind, personable, and welcoming. Service has truly never lacked for me here. You will notice right away that every menu item is an affirmation. At the top of the menu, it says, "I Am..." and each drink, appetizer, and entree is a positive word. As your food is delivered, they tell you your affirmation. For example, if I ordered the Warm Hearted bowl, they would say, "You are Warm Hearted." Even the water pitchers at each table have affirmative words on them. It's the little things like this that make Cafe Gratitude so special! Also, as you're placing your order, your server will leave your table with a "question of the day" that you can reflect upon and discuss with others. My partner and I love these prompts while we're waiting on our food. There's also a deck of special cards at each table that have additional questions for reflection! I try to order a different menu item every time I visit, so I've enjoyed a little bit of everything at this point. For appetizers, you have to try the Plentiful (chili). While I've never had anything here that I didn't love, my top favorite entrees would have to be Terrific (raw pad thai bowl), Warm Hearted (Italian polenta and squash noodles), and Whole (macrobiotic bowl). I also love Grateful, also known as their community bowl. If you need financial assistance with this bowl, you may pay a sliding scale of $3-11. If you want to contribute to someone else, you can pick an amount and set it aside for someone in need. I wish more businesses did this! During my most recent visit, I decided to try Transformed (tacos), which include sweet potatoes, black beans, guacamole-style hummus, pico de gallo, and cashew nacho cheese on organic corn tacos. They were delicious, but I'll probably stick to my bowls next time! It came with a side salad that wasn't anything super special but still full of flavor. The walls of the restaurant are covered in local art that rotates regularly and is available for purchase. The space itself is very cute and cozy. I read more about Cafe Gratitude's story on their website, and much of the interior is upcycled. For example, many of the light fixtures are made of old wine and vodka bottles. At the host stand, they have Cafe Gratitude postcards that you can write a message on, and they'll mail them out for you. The flavors of everything here is unmatched. Such unique combinations that my heart so happy. I always leave here feeling so fulfilled.

From the moment I walked in and through my visit, the customer service was exceptional. My server, I wish I remembered his name, was amazing and everything he recommended was totally chef's kiss! I couldn't decide between the pasta I craved, or the highly recommended hanger steak, so I got both! Excuse my yelling but, THE HANGER STEAK WAS ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR!!! I had no idea!! All I know is that I thought there would be leftovers and I was ready to lick the plate! Nothing went home with me. I haven't been able to stop talking about the hanger steak since. I would probably order a different pasta next time, or none at all. Also, the focaccia was incredible as well. (Excited about that, but it wasn't the highlight clearly) I'm ready to drive back to KC JUST for the steak. Absolutely phenomenal.

My chai was the BEST I have ever tasted (and I order chai every chance I get!), and my friend loved her 3 drinks (she said Tres Raices was her favorite). For our food, we split an order of the Not Queso Dip and the Avocado Tostadas. We were both very impressed by how fresh the ingredients were, and the blend of flavors in each dish that created a unique and yummy taste. The Kitchen has an open, airy layout that inspires deep breathing, while the arrangement and spacing of tables still provides for intimacy of conversation and minimal ambient noise. Sofhia checked back with us several times during our meal to ensure we had everything we needed and were thoroughly enjoying our food and drink (we were!). On the second time of asking, I wanted to see if she danced a different tune just as well. Putting on a Chicken Cobb for size proved ill-fitting, at least stood beside THAT sandwich. Nothing to make me crawl back with a humbling desperation. Inflation makes your lunch $10-15 already, so may as well make it twenty, order the right thing, and the Russell becomes worth frequenting. Just make sure she's wearing her shooting boots - we don't have room to thirst for Cobbs y'all.
