While Mother's Day is not a fair estimation of a restaurant, based on my experience today I would not give them a second chance. We opted to sit at the bar, which was fine. Someone was quick to come take our drink order, but it took a solid 15 minutes for our coffee to arrive, and another 5 minutes to have a mug with half and half packets basically tossed at me. It was at this point I saw someone else's lipstick marks on my coffee cup. The Bloody Mary had an aftertaste that could best be described as funky feet. As for the food, we'll never know. After waiting an hour for some French toast and some eggs, we ended up leaving as our food never showed up, nor did our waitress who was going to check on our order. Apparently they comped our drinks but doesn't make up for the shortcomings. I've now been here twice and forgot to take pictures both times! This space used to be a vinegarette with a very different vibe. Now it has a cute modern diner atmosphere with a bar and patio area. They get super busy on the weekend so I would recomend a reservation. We had one and were seated right away on a busy Saturday. The second time was a Monday morning and there was almost no one in there. The service was great, we had attentive knowledgeable servers both times. The coffee was a little disappointing as they could not make some of the drinks listed due to equipment issues but the alcoholic beverages were delicious. The food is huge portions and super flavorful and delicious. The first time I got the Smothered Veggie Hash with salsa verde. The server described the salsa verde as flavorful without a lot of spice and I 100% agree it was very delicious. We also ordered the biscuits for the table and they were huge! They are very filling too so definitely a shareable item. The red chile honey butter was our favorite addition to the biscuits. My boyfriend got the Smothered Biscuits and Gravy, which he liked a lot. My best friend had the Smothered Smashed Scramble with green which was pretty spicy, she loved it. Both the veggie hash and the smothered scramble were super filling, we could only eat about half and took leftovers home. The second time I got the French Toast and that was super delicious too. We ate at Smothered for our brunch date this morning. Really cute place and lovely patio area with shade and greenery. Service was great, attentive but not rushing us at all. Had a leisurely brunch and felt at ease staying a few hours. The food was overall very tasty however they forgot to "smother" my friends' duck tostados. This left them lacking in flavor and they both felt the need for salt. Unfortunately we were having such a good time no one realized they forgot the chile and cotija until after we left. My omelette was large and very tasty. The chilaquiles were also good per my other friend. We also ordered biscuits for the table which were very good although we agreed the toppings could have been more flavorful. The red chile honey butter was the best! One thing about living in Central New Mexico is that there are an ever-changing number of restaurants that move on, and new ones pop up in their place. At this point it is clear that we like breakfast and brunch places and we needed to try the recently opened Smothered. The place is spacious and very retro; cozy, even, with plenty of natural light. Our server was very friendly although it started slow. Once we ordered our food, though, we had our appetizers in a few minutes, and the entrees came to our table shortly after. Our appetizers were the bacon flight and the biscuits. The flight had 6 strips of bacon with different sauces and one battered strip. All of them were interesting. You could definitely pick your favorite and you wouldn't be wrong. The biscuits were buttery and more dense than a normal biscuit, but they were good with the jam and the red chile honey butter. For our entrees, we had the smothered chicken and waffles. The chicken was thick, juicy, and perfectly breaded. The waffles were soft and fluffy. The salsa verde was acidic, but not spicy. The kale is definitely not needed. And please give me more of that red chile butter! I visited Smothered twice during their soft open and really enjoyed it. The biscuits and gravy and omelet are both delicious, and the Piñon Jay and Breakfast Mai Tai cocktails are also tasty. The service on both visits was very friendly and efficient. It can get a bit noisy inside because of the tiled wall and industrial ceiling but the outdoor section is quieter and charming. read more

Smothered is a new brunch on Central. When I first walked in l, I thought this is gonna be a fun spot! Since it's a new spot, it's pretty crowded. The wait was 45 minutes. Cocktails made the wait a pleasant experience: Bellinis, Mai Tais, and Bloody Maries amongst friends made the time pass quick. We started our meal with the Bacon Flight. We devoured that before I remembered to take a picture. I only have a picture of the aftermath. I had the smothered biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was flaky and buttery, perfect! The biscuit was smothered in a chorizo gravy. One friend had the smothered veggie hash, another the avocado toast, and we shared smothered duck tostada. We all enjoyed our food. Only a couple of things that could have been better: I asked for an over easy egg, as did my friend. We found over medium fried eggs on our plates. Like I said, a small thing. I was excited to try Smothered but I won't be coming back. The food was not very good. We got the smothered breakfast hash and it had no flavor what so ever. We also got the waffle and it came out basically room temp so the butter couldn't even melt. The service was lacking. I asked for a coffee and we had to ask a second time for cream and sugar but no spoon and no salt and pepper were readily available. It did look cool so there's that and the patio was nice. While I very much enjoyed the ambiance, I give the food and service a 2.5. we waited too long for "breakfast..." IMO, waiting longer than 20 minutes is excessive, especially if the restaurant is half full. After 35 min our food finally came out. I ordered the smothered scramble, and it was missing half of the ingredients.... It did not have onions, peppers, cheese, or cilantro. I spoke to an employee about it, and he confirmed it was supposed to have those ingredients... Then said he saw it sitting there and thought it looked like, but didn't mention anything to the kitchen... Which I thought was very strange? They offer to remake it, but I declined because I didn't want to wait another 30 plus minutes. My hubby ordered the smothered burrito and he enjoyed it. The Carne Adovado Smash Bowl was outstanding, as was the Gravy Smash Bowl and the Churro Waffle with Ice Cream was the bomb according to those around us. We went to Smothered on 10/11 around 11:45. The restaurant was not full by any means and our party of 3 was immediately seated. After we were seated, we waited almost 10 minutes before our server appeared. We were ready to order as we had ample time to look at the menu before she came to our table. She asked if we wanted the biscuits or bacon flight for the table. We politely declined and told her we were ready to order our meal. She kept pushing the bacon flight. We reiterated we did not want an appetizer and we're ready to order. We placed our order. She returned with our drinks then disappeared. We did not see her for about 25-30 minutes. No one came to the table to offer refills or even check on us. She then popped up about a half an hour later and asked if we were waiting for a bacon flight. I told her no we were waiting for our meal. She said she thought we were waiting for biscuits or the bacon flight. I repeated we were waiting on our meal. She said she knew she put our order in "a while ago." A while ago? Really? She couldn't even remember what we were waiting on. I think our order was forgotten or lost in my opinion. We did not wait around to find out. We got up and left. Here's the deal...I can deal with slow service, forgotten items, etc., but you have to COMMUNICATE. Communication goes a long way to forgive these types of things. But we were ignored for over 30 minutes. Not a single person checked on us. I'd love to tell you about the food but we never got our order. If you decide to go to Smothered, I hope your experience is better. 0/10 we will never return. read more

Lovely environment, "make at home" level of food and above average prices. The environment was very relaxing and aesthetic. With the spacing of seats apart and the option to enjoy in or outside dining, its a very nice spot to eat in the spring. The food was very disappointing especially after seeing it all over social media. Similar to another review, we had ordered the breakfast hash, and to our surprise, no eggs or cheese. We tracked down our server and brought it to his attention. He was very polite about it and took it off our ticket but unfortunately the kitchen only made the eggs, instead of remaking the entire plate. I was forced to eat cold potatoes with plain eggs that came out 10 minutes later. So, my $16 plate was very unenjoyable. The location definitely has potential, and you can see their vision.
