    Oily chicken pita
    Laura D.

Very interesting experience. The lady met us by the doorway; we were ordering take out so she showed us her iPad with pictures of the items they carried. We couldn't go inside so we waited outside. She brought the item in plates but noticed they were to go, so repacked them. The food was okay. We got two medium platters with gyro, and a plain chicken pita. The gyro was lovely, but the salad was lettuce with A LOT of onion, a a few tomato slices and no dressing. The gyro was VERY oily. We also ordered baklava which was quite...... Soggy. There's parking on the premises and they accept card. Would not go again.

Tried Smyrna out for the first time, after driving past it a couple of times. Called for a pickup order at around 7 PM on a Saturday. I ordered two Beef and Lamb Gyro XL Platters (beef and lamb gyro (double meat), rice, pita, salad, french fries, hummus, tzatziki and the Beef and Lamb Gyro Pita (beef and lamb, lettuce, tomato, onion, french fries, tzatziki). I really, really wanted to like this place. They give generous portions and the food is very fairly priced. And it actually tasted pretty good. Until I found a hair in one of my last bites of pita. I understand this happens but it is just such a turn off and pet peeve of mine. Up until then, I was enjoying my pita. It had lots of meat, and even had French fries inside (what a nice touch!). But it is very oily so it's a cheat meal. Any lettuce that was inside the pita had soaked up all the oil into a soggy mess. Also brings me to my next point - best to eat it immediately because the sauce and oil does make the pita soggy. However, I would not recommend dining in because they do not have AC - even on a 90 degree day. That did make me wonder about the food safety in such high temperatures. There's also a credit card fee, so keep that in mind. I'm not sure if I'll be back because of the hair. The food was good but not so good that I couldn't find a hairless version of it somewhere else.

The food is bangin! And the prices are affordable. The hummus, babaganoush , and the beef and lamb platter were so fresh and flavorful!

I had been meaning to visit Smyrna Gyro since it's close to home. I finally took a walk over on a sunny afternoon. It was nice out, so we took seats at the picnic table they had outside. The waitress/owner? brought us menus and took our order shortly after. I went with the lamb and beef gyro with fries and a Greek salad. It comes with a can of soda, and it was only $12.99! The Greek salad was amazing. It was very substantial, with few leafy vegetables, but plenty of olives, bell pepper, onions, tomato and feta. The gyro was great. It was stuffed with a well seasoned gyro meat, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and tzatziki. They were also nice enough to give us some complimentary lemonade. It was probably the best lemonade I've had. Definitely a good spot for a quick gyro.

I have lived in Wallington for 2 years and kept wanting to try this place. It was a rainy Saturday and I was greeted by a lovely woman who smiled and jumped to take my order. The place is painted in blue and white with lacey curtains. Makes you feel like you're in your Grandmothers kitchen. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro platter but with Greek fries and the gyro sandwich platter. The food was prepared as I waited and the smells from the kitchen were amazing. Again the place is small but cozy and very clean. Everything was so flavorful and delicious and the portion was HUGE! You won't be disappointed!

Forgot to review this place after coming for a birthday party dinner earlier this year (winter). We…read moresat at the bar and had a pricey mojito while waiting for the group to arrive. We had a large group, and they seated us at 2 separate and crowded tables in the side room, which was less than ideal (with a reservation). It also got really hot because the room was packed. They were pushing us to order everything family style, but everyone wanted to order individually. The two of us weren't super hungry, and asked for our entrees to be on a separate check before ordering, which they would not do. Since I knew we were going to end up splitting the check with the one table, I ended up getting a more expensive entree to make up for the apps and drinks we weren't having (I already had a drink from the bar and my husband doesn't drink). I settled on the special lobster carbonara (which I think was $75). Good, but overpriced. My husband had the filet mignon - it was cooked as requested but we prefer more seasoning. A friend passed her grilled scallops over to us to finish - I took one bite and it tasted like ammonia. I discreetly spat it out. For her sake, I hope the rest didn't taste like that. The atmosphere was loud and hard to have conversations. They did a conga line around the restaurant later in the evening. Not really my scene. Service was slow and it didn't seem like they could handle big groups, even when split up. We ended up staying here for about 3 hours. We ended up leaving before we were even offered dessert. Also, keep in mind they have valet parking.

We finished all 6 Courses. Greek food at its finest! I can't wait to go back.

As we walked in, it wasn't too busy, we got a table right away. The interior looked super pretty with brick wall background, tables and booths for dining indoor. They had outdoor seating available too. The menu had lots of interesting Mediterranean dishes. We started with the grilled octopus that had delicious seasoning with mix of olive oil and red wine vinegar. The complimentary bread was fluffy, accompanied perfectly with the octopus. The branzino was a flavorful filet, well cooked. The side of spinach was well made too. I loved the lamb kokinisto (from specials menu). The meat was so tender and the sauce was incredible. I just kept taking bites and eventually finished the whole bowl. At the end I took the rice pudding to go and loved the taste of it. Our server Stephen was super nice, paid full attention to all his tables. He told us about the specials of the day from which I actually found out about lamb kokinisto. The appetizers came out quickly but the entree took some time since we had ordered branzino and lamb. They add 3% surcharge for credit card, so take cash if you want to avoid the extra fee. The food - delicious, packed with flavor. My kids were baffled how proteins they're used to eating (beef, chicken) could taste so differently thanks to unique spices and whatnot. The meal came to about $20 per person (no drinks, just the entrée) and while the 'Kabob Koobideh' was a generous portion, the falafel sandwich (for $15) is wildly overpriced (it's about $10 from Greek Town right across the street, never mind about $8 from Mamoun's just about two minutes away over on Rt. 17N). Turkish cuisine is a unique combination of flavors, spices, and herbs developed over thousands of years, influenced by the Central Asian nomads and Arabic, Persian, Italian, French, and Eastern European cultures. While New York has some great Turkish food if one knows where to look, most of it leaves some room for improvement. Could Jersey be better? The town of Carlstadt has mainly residential private homes, with a spattering of condos and garden apartments. The main shopping area is all of about three blocks long on both sides of the street. Translated from the Turkish language, meaning sultan, we have come to this family-owned/family-run establishment located on Hackensack Street since 2006 for Saturday dinner. The reservation was easily made by Google Assistant. A great view of the NYC skyline is visible from their enclosed back patio. Their menu features Mediterranean and Turkish cuisine with a modern twist and serves alcohol. As an appetizer, we decided on the Kibbeh (Icli Kofte), Calamari (Kalamar), and Cigarette Borek (Sigara Boregi). For our main meal, we opted for Chicken Saute (Taouk Sote), Shrimp Kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab (Kuzu Sis Kebab), and Chicken Shish Kebab (Tavuk Kebab). All Kebab meal accompanied by rice, char-grilled tomatoes, peppers, and a small salad. Warm, fluffy pida bread with a crisp crust started our meal. Every dish bursts with authentic flavor and is beautifully presented, from the fact that Turkish families from all over the area eat here. The staff is warm, welcoming, and very professional; our server was Akincan "John," the owners' son. The price was comparable to the area with the right portion. We can recommend this place.
