I have no idea what the "deli" is about, but last time I was there the owner had made fresh Italian Beef and comped me a sammie that was greasy and delicious. The regulars and friendly and the jukebox is eclectic, the stools are old and the floor is dirty, just how I like it. Stop in for a beer and stay for a shot. I never have written a bad review its not my style. I was in Snickers the 2nd.. I have been to Snickers twice. There is a reason its packed with Men. I waited 30 minutes to get the bartender to stop Long enough to get my order. I wasn't important enough Apparently because the guy next to me had to stop Her and order for me. I have never recurved ruder service. insulting, Condescending. I will never go back and never suggest going forward that Anyone else does. same bartender every time. So rude. One night my pal Eric met an old Native American guy in this place who wrote him a poem called, "The Owl is the Eagle of the Night." Then the old Indian read it to Eric outside on the sidewalk and set the poem on fire, as part of some "sacred ritual." After that, the Indian and Eric ended their brief foray into Shamanism by chain vomiting on the sidewalk together. Another time - Eric and I went here to drink after work, and this guy outside said, "You guys all right tonight? You need any girls? Need any help with that, need help with getting dates?" Er, no, sorry...but we don't pay for sex where I come from... Another time - my friend Tessy was in from Jersey and I brought her to Snickers because I wanted her to feel at home, or at least like she was in a place as surly and go-nowhere as Newark. It worked. In our defense, we tried something else. After being denied entrance to the decidedly nicer Watershed, we gazed across the street to the rambunctious Snicker's. "Why not?" Immediately we noticed the cheap drinks, mixed crowd, the dive bar anthems / rap hits mix coming from the user created playlist, the bartenders in skimpy outfits, and thought, "This is fun..." A stranger seemed to read my mind and said, unsolicited "You've come across with some real characters. A real grain of sand among pearls." I asked if he meant a grain of sand that became a pearl and said something like 'that is how that happens" but maybe didn't expect Snicker's to become a pearl and trailed off. Moments letter we were in a yelling match called GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE to see who would make the best bouncer judged by the bouncer for his own job. I stopped here for breakfast on Christmas morning. As the only place open in the area, there could be no expectation the food would be any good. Why should they make the effort? But I had probably the best breakfast I have ever had in Chicago. The grill guy is a master. A life-changing gyro-and-feta omelet and real fried potatoes. You can call this a dive. This is the kind of neighborhood bar you wish was on your street. Full bar with a great selection and great service by very tall, pretty European blondes with cool accents, "you vant more vodka?" and they make a REAL cocktail, not the over priced, sissy drinks you expect in a tourist district. The food, right off the flat grill with lots of flavor, fresh ingredients and big portions. Good prices all around. I wound up there on a daily basis during my stay, it was addicting. A dive bar in the general downtown area sounds ridiculous, but in actuality it's nothing too far off. You do get that dive bar vibe once you step inside, only difference here is the views you get are tall buildings and a 7/11. I won't lie, the service wasn't the greatest. Nothing too memorable about the food neither, especially for the price you pay. But overall, if you're looking to getaway from the downtown scene without leaving the area, then this is the spot to chill at. Also should be noted that this bar is open for practically 18 hours in the day so stay late or come early, it don't matter cause they may be open! Pretty good place to drink up a storm. Drank Old Style beer and some shots for $3 each, which is probaby the cheapest on the area. Old Style might be my next favorite beer. Not a big fan on their food. The jalapeno poppers were crispy and hot but the cheese they uses was to cheddary. It was around the corner from where I stayed and there was a game that I wanted to see-and they had it on, so I stopped in to have a drink, watch the game, and do some work (you don't get your laptop out at the bar?). It was happy-hour time and, aside from the bar crew, I'm pretty sure I was the only chick in the place. Looked like a lot of post-work drinks for the local crews. Lived in this area for almost a year and all though just a block away-what fun! Great place to take a shot spending half from what the next 6 bars next to this one would charge. But it's definitely a group hang to get the night started. I wouldn't sit here for more than an hour, the crowd turns into a frat boy party and the walls remind you of a cheap college dorm room, but ---it saves money on the pocket. It's definitely a stop but never a place that I would ever recommend an outsider of Chicago to go to. The bartenders are laid back and friendly. I've probably passed this bar and its predecessors at the corner of State and Illinois a thousand times over the years without ever giving it a thought; but yesterday, walking back to my hotel from Rock Bottom, I noticed a beer menu in the window, and stopped in. They now have a broad but shallow international selection, almost all industrial light lagers. There are five Polish brands; the bartender told me the bar staff is all Polish. I tried a can of the one that was new to me, Lomza. This turned out to be a flabby, hop-deficient lager; but, still, another entry on my life list. Atmosphere is divey, but the crowd, absorbed in a World Cup game, seemed pleasant enough. Service perhaps a bit slow, but it was a busy day. One block from Grand on the Red Line. On the 36-Broadway bus line, and three blocks off Michigan Avenue. One block from Rock Bottom, and within a few blocks of Watershed, Eataly Birreria, Public House, Harry Caray's, and Stout Barrel House. read more

Came here with friends after work for a drink and was expecting it to be as shitty as Rossi's, but it was surprisingly clean and well-lit. The special was $4.50 for Stella bottles, which isn't bad. The bartender told us Bud Lights were $5 a bottle, so the easy choice was Stella. There seemed to be a lot of regulars, but the bar wasn't really full, so there were plenty of tables to sit at. Went here last night with some out-of-towners. They'd been hanging out at Rock Bottom and wanted someplace with slightly cheaper drinks and a divey atmosphere. This place certainly had the latter, but not the former. For a place that boasts $3.50 beers and $2.00 shots out front, you'd think they'd actually honor those prices. Beers were more expensive (a round for two was about 12-14 dollars) and though they did have $2.00 kamikaze shots, the color and flavor of said shots make me highly suspect that Windex was involved. I think my insides are clean & shiny now, but I'll pass in the future - unless I want a patty melt or something, the grill looked like the food might be greasy-chic and possibly sort of tasty. read more

Best dive bar in River North! Been going here for at least 10 years. You will go back in time to an era of Chicago where things were a little more casual, a little more fun, and a lot cheaper. The drinks and food are great for the price, and you can almost always catch a great crowd here. The best time to stop in is around 5PM on a weekday when everyone is getting off of work. It's quite a stretch to call this a bar and grill. It's definitely a bar but not so much a grill. It's a seat yourself kind of place which is great....for a bar. There were no waitresses which the bartender who came to our table pointed out. I ordered a turkey sandwich. It came on white sandwich bread (like you would but at the store) and plain ole turkey. We kicked off a pub crawl here and I really wasn't thrilled. It's supposed to be a dive bar but misses the point of dive bars. This place thinks that going for the "dive bar" feel means you shouldn't clean your bathroom; fine. But if your bathroom stinks of pee, you don't have the right to charge $5 for a Bud Light. Imagine this- It's a late summer evening, and you're tired... tired of working, tired of wandering around downtown, and tired of trying to find a low-carb delicious meal (by low-carb I mean, meat and veggies). Enter Snickers. I walk by this place everyday on my way to work, but never give it three glances. I order a gyro salad and talk up the chef for extra free meat. I hand over my money and He hands over the heavy styrofoam container supported by a flimsy plastic bag and sends me on my way. 45 minutes later, I'm home and muttering "omg, omg, omg!" The mountain of meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. The iceberg lettuce was crunchy and of course the olives and feta cheese were salty and moistened by the greek dressing. The pita bread looked golden and felt soft, but I'm on a low-carb diet, remember? I sadly tossed it aside and went back to feasting. What's for lunch tomorrow? Gyro meat and white rice...
